Should people read giveaway descriptions as a show of respect for the giveaway creator?
Original OP follows:
Hi! Are you blacklisted?
You may want to read the below, then!
(For everyone else, skip to the bottommost section for a chance at an unbundled GA!)
Recently, I had to blacklist a whole lot of people [and remove 14 people from whitelist] because they overlooked or.. ignored? :'( the bolded 'Please leave a comment on this one!' in an unbundled giveaway I put up.
If my giveaway was good enough to enter- and I made a point of spending my very little funds in splurging on it rather than on bundled games- why was it not good enough to comment on? I left a prompt- 'any comment is fine, but I really want pictures of cats playing with balls!', but only a minority of entrants actually left any sort of comment.
The real sting is, this minority response was from some of the more notable 'good people' groups on SG, who I really expected more attentive conduct from- is that my mistake?
Still, while people feeling your giveaways aren't worth their time to read- but still to enter- is likely justifiable grounds for blacklisting, that's not a step I'm willing to take yet.
Rather, my goal here was to highlight the attitude for people to reevaluate it, and consider giving more respectful attention toward the people giving them free games- games those people can't even justify spending money on for themselves, at times.
I.. was hoping and expecting for a less extreme response, considering the group context, honestly. >_O
Anyway, while I'll leave anyone that didn't comment tagged with a note of such, for future consideration, I'd really like to leave my blacklist for outright [hateful and deceptive people], rather than just people who made a (potentially aberrational) display of carelessness.
So, easy, non-self-calling-out way of fixing the matter:
Post a picture of a 'fancy animal' (extra points for Steampunk), real or artistic!
If you were blacklisted for the reasons above- bam, that's it, you're off the list!
But boy, that'd be an unfortunate way of calling yourself out, right?
Nope! 'cause see, everyone else (that's you, non-blacklistee!) is going to do it as well:
After 5 pages worth of fancy animal pics (replies-to-comments don't count, and comments without a picture count for -2, so this may go past 5 pages!) I will edit this thread to include an unbundled GA!
Which GA? I have no idea, but it'll be whatever is on sale at the time, since I'm quite poor.
The GA'll be Level 5+, no rules broken, .75 ratio.
There will also be a short bundle train starting at level 2, no-rules, .65 ratio.
And now, a poll, 'cause that's a thing we do.
Note, posts by the same poster on the same page do not count- but you MAY post once per page, if you wish!

Yep I'm agree with you, I made a thread like 1 month ago to highlight differents attitudes of certains users. For example, too much people don't say even a small "thank you" when they win the GA...
So I think The vast majority of people do not read the descriptions, especially in Public :-/

It is only problematic if you actually include info on how the game will be delivered. I sincerely regretted switching to IndieGala gift links in emails since at least one in five winners added me or wrote here that they are waiting for the key when I said it'll be in their inbox/spam folder…

Isn't he a beauty? ღ ❤ ღ EDIT: added another, following the steampunk theme XD
On topic: could be that some people actually misread your request: it's much more common to find people asking NOT to comment, so it probably wouldn't be so weird, if people read what they expected to, instead.

You'd have access to it, so go take a look and let me know what you think =O
The blacklisting wasn't explicitly mentioned, but then, I thought the entreat toward courtesy was enough, personally.
That second image is adorable :')

Yeah, i need that little guy in my life. Or the big one, i'm not picky XD
On topic: I have seen the giveaway few days ago and I can't remember if i read it properly right away or not, sorry.

Yeah, but given the extremely negative conduct it takes to get on my blacklist [this event and one previous aside], I'd rather not immediately lump 100~ of SG's more respectable members into that same lot without giving them at least one extra chance. :X

I kinda felt bad mixing loot fairy and CV exploiter into the same poll option, but the list was already getting too long and cluttered, and the general outlook was going to be similar anyway. :X
Also, too late to edit, I caught you. Thanks for extending the event! :D

After your last comment, I paid close attention to you, and couldn't find any conduct that explained why you were on there. Given that the list has bugged several times in the past [usually swapping whitelist and blacklist additions], I went ahead and removed you.
..which apparently didn't take. o.O
Awkward.

Seems like I did something wrong. I'm not going to bribe you with a picture though - I'd rather wait until you'll find me a good person and remove me from your blacklist for this particular reason than just for adding a random picture from internet :) I am sorry I didn't comment on your giveaway though, I usually do :)

Er. It's not a bribe, it's a way to avoid having to call yourself out. o.O;
It's for your sake, not mine :P
Also, if you phrase it 'something wrong', that just suggests you didn't read the OP at all, which is NOT encouraging me to remove the blacklist >_<

Yes, I've read it all :) And I've read it once again cos you made me think I've missed something :P I don't know what is wrong with phrase "something wrong" to be honest :P Didn't mean anything bad, it's probably because it's hard to show right intention of words when you don't speak face to face, I guess.
Well, I've called myself out already :P That was one of the parts that I didn't fully understand but what you can do, it's too late already :P

As a phrase, 'something wrong' actually means 'something wrong but unknown' in nearly? every usage.
Ex. "There's something wrong, I can feel it." "You did something wrong young girl, do you know what it was?" "I could swear I was doing something wrong" "You say I did something wrong, but you won't tell me what it was!" etc.
By common usage, the phrase explicitly refers to 'well, I did something wrong, but I don't know what it was'. As far as I'm aware, there's not a single usage of the phrase that refers to a situation where the 'something' is actually known.
If your intent was "Oh boy, I hope that's the only reason I got blacklisted, and not for something else", then I apologize, but it really did come across iffy, based on my familiarity with the phrase :'P
Ah, anyway, I didn't mean much by it, was just trying to make sure we were on the same page. :P
Feel free to reply with a picture of a bird if you want me to delete my replies and let you retcon your self-call-out ;P

Hahaha, last part was hilarious :D
The phrase we are talking about was intended as a joke and it's meaning for me was more like "I did SOMETHING wrong" like we both exactly know what this "something" is :) Don't know if I'm clear enough :P
Here's a picture you've requested (ain't no need to delete anything though ^^).

I always read the description (unless it's in, for example, chinese or russian, then I don't take the time to google translate it).
Personally I have a bigger beef with people who don't even say thank you after winning though. Half the people on my latest train didn't say anything when winning, and thus ended up on my blacklist. I always check their won games from others before doing it to make sure it's a habit they always have so it's not just something they missed/forgot for mine in particular, and almost always they've never said thanks on any single one.
Gratitude is something a lot of people are lacking. =(

+1 and honestly the bad thing about it is that it makes me only really want to do group giveaways or super high level giveaways. Especially when I take the time to make sure that the game isn't some bundle game.

Tell me about it. Then I feel guilty for only doing lvl 7-10 giveaways.

You've got a tag next to your name for making a point in the past of making contributing comments, so you'd have been 'safe' anyway. :)
Noone got removed from whitelist that'd actually made a point of offering contributive comments in the past few months..
In the end, 5 whitelisters commented, 14 did not, 1 did not but got an exception due to previous conduct.
So the assumption is, not reading/commenting is a habit for nearly all of the people that do it- and that's more the sort of behavior that's getting filtered out, rather than 'hey, arbitrary check-in!'
As I said in the OP, I respect that humans can be careless- easily distracted, or just prone to mistakes, it comes easily to us. It's when it's a pattern that it's hard to excuse. :X
So: Thanks for having made a point of being regularly awesome up to this point. :)
Also, nice use of your profile pic :D

I do not know what to tell you. Frankly I'm not the most active here, but so far I have few giveaways totally bundle games :), and most people do not even say thank you. And that of course happens in public giveaways basically. However, I do not see what the difference is - someone gives you a game, be kind and say a thank you. But I do not blacklist people for that, I just hope that in real life they are not the same.
These days I am on fishing theme, started playing Fishing Planet. So something in this direction:)

Well, I wanted to make a point about how prevalent an issue it is, and maybe encourage people to be more considerate in the future. The goal here isn't to strongarm them into changing, but to try and emphasize the point enough that they notice it enough to think it over. =O
As I said, I'll have to consider if it's actually worth really blacklisting for in the future, but right now, my only aim is a "Hey, guys? I'd appreciate if you could consider this outlook, I'd appreciate it." :)
Speaking of: Thanks for making sure to comment on that gib! :D

I definitely understand what you mean, and I hope to have some success.:)
And I read description for the giveaways i enter. And if I can do what the creator mentions in description, I just do it. Why... Because, for that particular game, he/she has decided not to keep it for themselves, not to barter or any other reason, and decided to give it to someone lucky.
The same goes for giveaways without any description. In these I am trying not to comment (sometimes is difficult:)), because I think the creator does not want to be unnecessarily bother.
But definitely is hard to be in sync with all. And we must not forget that everyone has good and bad days. And sometimes not feeling as usual and not doing things the way they usually do.(I speak from personal experience here).:)

Nah, commenting preferences change giveaway creator to giveaway creator, and even mood to mood or public to group. Expecting people to guess your preferences is silly.
But when you list your preferences, in bold, and they don't bother adhering to them, that means they didn't even consider the time and money you put into the giveaway or its description worth acknowledging.
People are careless, so that may not be the case every time, but it's definitely the case for people that have that behavior for every giveaway they enter. :/

Oh yeah i see your point and I understand how that can be offensive, thats why i said that when asked for i try to leave even a tiny comment just to show that i've read it at least and to put the GA creator at ease :D
About people having the same behaviour on every GA? i think you'd need to make more tests and see if it really is a recurring thing or that they did in fact overlook it (even though you say it was in bold :P)

I mean more, I couldn't recall them ever once having posted a comment on any giveaway of mine ever. Which may NOT mean they're ignoring my descriptions [which always include prompts], but it also may mean that they ARE ignoring them.
And when the majority of entrants- in this case, 80%, and that WITH a request to comment- don't comment on a regular basis, it's a bit.. awkward.
And then, those same people are the ones who don't say "thank you" after winning and receiving their game.
That's what I mean- it's a pattern of behavior that suggests deliberate disregard :X

The event has ended!
Without reaching even 65% Fancyness, we've failed to attract the unbundled giveaway to this thread, and it has has relocated elsewhere. :(
~⁰ ・✧ Bundle Train! ✧ ・゚ ~
I hope you find the narrative entertaining, but there's certainly no obligation to read through it. :)
Enjoy the train!
In the spirit of the event, if you participate in the bundle train, additional Steampunk images in this thread would be welcomed. :)
The original thread post has been moved to the first reply of this thread. If you find you're blacklisted, and don't know why, you should take a quick look there!
