If you have the ruler designer DLC, play your first few games with a homosexual starting ruler. Homosexual people sire fewer children, which results in less infighting, and before you can change the succession laws of your country, that's really handy. Your ruler is still not infertile (which is important), but he/she will see the act more like something that has to be performed rather than something he/she wants to perform, and thus you'll have fewer sons fighting over your land.
