So, I got Afterbirth DLC for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. So, it reset my progress from 100% to zero ingame. Now I need another 144 hours (or even more) to bring everything back. It's not like I abhor game now, but it's kinda discouraging. Like... very... VERY... DISCOURAGING. ಠ_ಠ

Edit: Welp, importing got me no good before, so it now. Alt+F2 got my progress back.

Dude, that's the best game in the world so it's not really a problem to reset to 0%, I even did it on purpose when the DLC came out :)

It's far from being "the best game in the world".

Also Afterbirth and patches that came with it are just disappointing. The new character Lilith is complete garbage, Azazel got nerfed to the point of being useless, beating the game with The Lost is harder then before.

I'm getting sick of the game, wish I haven't wasted money on the Afterbirth.

Well for me it's really one of them, on the top of best games :)

I don't see how Lilith is a garbage character ? She's really good and her specificity make a new interesting challenge. Azazel useless, lol he's still one of the best character with isaac of course. BTW it seems to be a bug and Edmund is going to patch him again.
I don't see how on earth it's harder to beat the game with the Lost now ? It's way more fun with the D4, and way easier now that you have the spectral tears.

Sorry for you if you're that salty about the game but try to enjoy it like it was the first time again !

With Lilith you constantly have to position your minion in a way that he can hit enemies, while at the same time dodging enemies and their attacks with your character. It's extra work, it's tedious and it's tricky/hard to fight some enemies that way.

Azazel takes long to charge now and his brimstone is so weak you can't even kill certain spiders and flies with a single brimstone. That's ridiculously underpowered and it makes him second worst character in the game after The Lost. Small range, terrible damage, long charge time, a lot of items don't synergize well with his brimstone, awful!

The new tiny rooms are almost always death for The Lost unless you get lucky or have very good items. There are many new enemies that make the game harder for The Lost as well.

Overall the Afterbirth DLC and the patches that came with it ruined the game in my opinion. It's less fun now.

A) because screw Edmund and co. for trying new things amirite? Not every character needs to be the same old boring character that just fires tears normally. Besides, Lilith's starting item makes up for it, especially if you're in a boss rush or greed mode room.

B) Fun fact: Azazel wasn't meant to be nerfed as much as he was. It was either the charge rate up OR the damage down, but Edmund goofed and asked Nicalis the above while replacing the "OR" with an "AND". This will be rectified later.

C) Small rooms will be more rare in the next update.

D) overall if by "ruined" and "less fun" you mean "way too difficult"...go play other games maybe? I like the challenge - a bit unfair, maybe, but it's far from the hideously unfair that you're trying to make it out to be. :)

A) Considering Lilith really has to rely on her active item a lot and that other items aren't worth picking up on her then 4 charges on it is too much.

B) Yeah I am aware of that. Personally I haven't even liked him before the nerf because of his awful range and because charge time was annoying even back then. Not to mention a lot of items don't synergize with his brimstone, or don't synergize well. He was never really OP and didn't deserve a nerf in either way.

C) Not sure how I feel about that, while they made The Lost runs a lot harder they were fun to deal with when using other characters

D) If I buy a game that I find decently balanced then I expect it to stay that way, or that developer notes that he will be ramping up the difficulty and the overall unfairness of the game before I buy the damn DLC. Judging from all his tease-posts about Afterbirth and gifs it seemed like the game will get easier and more fun, and then the exact opposite turned out to be true.

I just read the reddit post you linked to. Is he saying he will nerf Book of Belial and all other items that improve the chance for the devil room? What the fuck...

I don't like the boss HP scaling with damage. Because then builds with high tear rate and low damage are going to be much better than builds with lower tear rate and high damage. Which is of course something you can't control because of the RNG. That's beyond stupid and makes the game unfair and I can't believe Edmund isn't smart enough to see that.

I played Rebirth again (missed Afterbirth's pre-purchase), my first run was with Azazel. I picked up Ludovico Technique right at the start, so my Brimstone was the Red Ring of Death. Later I picked up Lump of Coal, and I was able to clear Boss Rush too. My last kill was Satan, because I didn't kill Mom's Heart enough times :/

You're saying Azazel is not awful because you were lucky enough to get an overpowered combo (Ludovico + Brimstone) at the start...

I didn't feel Azazel underpowered even with his base DMG. His Brimstone was powerful, but of course it had a price. IMO Azazel is the easiest chracter to play, because of Brimstone and flying.

His brimstone after the nerf deals almost no damage, you can't even kill certain flies and spiders with a full-duration brimstone attack ffs.

And considering his range is so short you have to get very close to an enemy to attack him, and in that case you'll often get hit if you're not very careful. Before you'd kill enemy before he manages to hit you most of the time, but now with super weak damage that changed.

Hmm, so he only got nerfed in Afterbirth but not in Rebirth? Then people who said Azazel got nerfed just to make it hard to unlock Lilith were right.

But doesn't Ultra Greed scale with your damage as well?
I ran through greed mode before the nerf, apparently, and haven't had the time to check out Lilith yet.

Ultra Greed and Hush seem to both scale with your damage.

Nah, in Rebirth he is the easiest to use. 3 black hearts, flying and of course Brimstone. Oh he also has the fool card, so you can go into a curse room for free.

Did you even play the original? The dlc also completely changed the game introducing new and harder enemies etc etc.. Same story now.. Rebirth/afterbirth while better than the original is also way easier and I'd even dare to say too easy. Easy but lots of Fun!

Seems to me you simply don't like changes that much so stay away from dlc :p
You can play without it if you want (Like some people did when the dlc for isaac came out as they had the same complaints....).

The original ran like shit (sluggish, constant frame drops) because it was made in flash so I uninstalled it after 5 minutes.

I like the fact there are a lot more items with Afterbirth, I like most of the new enemies. I don't like the fact that the game got harder and that your success is even more RNG based then before. I don't like how bad the new character is and how tedious it is to play with her, but you have to if you want to unlock more items.

There are things I like about DLC, and things I don't like about it. Honestly if I could refund it I probably would, but since I played it for more then 2 hours before I got disappointed with it and before Edmund decided to nerf Lilith's active item and Azazel I can't.

I think we don't agree on the ' harder' part but hey let's agree to disagree as it' subjective :)

Anyway the DLC is just out and contains plenty of bugs so just wait a bit till everything has settled down. It might grow on you. You might like it. It took me a long time to like rebirth over the original as well.

The nerf on lilith is (imho) justified however as she was too OP. A fun character to play with though but nothing special compared to other chars. Aiming with up to 3 companions is fairly easy and I tend to find the guillotine a lot more disturbing than lilith.

The moment I realised how Lilith worked I loved playing her, in Greed mode at least, not so much nomal/hard. So many minions that the awkward aiming didn't matter. Then the nerf happened and I was like, nevermind. x_x Still can be fun with a ton of batteries. ;)
I'd love to see more interesting character ideas like Lilith. I heard there is one more character in the files so maybe soon!

I always thought Azazel was the casual mode, although not great in the long run, its good for newbies to learn some of the mechanics. The flight + the slow attacks meant you could watch enemy patterns from a safe spot on the early floors. Nerf did suck bad though but he will be readdressed at least. :(

As for balance, I don't think it ever really was a balanced game and relied way more on luck than it did skill, at least until the HP scaling bosses were introduced but they're not too hard to trick with certain items which I guess again... is luck.

There's an option to import save-files from Rebirth into Afterbirth and that's cool, but there's a bug which can literally wipe your save if you try to import it.

Apparently. :X

I felt the same way with Telltale's Walking Dead Season 1-2 data corruption bug- it sucks losing your data, especially if you have it just the way you want it.
Tthough unlike with Telltale, looks like this bug might actually have the developer willing to give a damn about it. :X

On the bright side, it should be easier to fill your collection page this time, with how easy Greed mode is to break :P. Maggy + piggybank/Swallowed Penny+habit = getting to buy every item in the shop (even faster with car battery)

There's an "Import" button on the save slot screen. Click on it to import your save file from Rebirth into Afterbirth.

You don't lose your Rebirth save file by importing it to Afterbirth, but you lose any progress you've done in Afterbirth before the import.

But looks like you fixed it so yay!
I had a different bug while importing the save file. The game created two different save slots instead of one. #1 was with the real platinum god (correct one) and #3 was only with platinum god. What's funnier, that second one only had secrets unlocked on stats page. The rest was set to 0.

Hey, since you have played Rebirth can you answer this: I already own Binding of Isaac + Wrath of Lamb, is the Rebirth really worth the full price since I already own the original game? Does it change the game much? I know that the engine and graphics are better :)

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, gameplay is pretty much the same: you dodge and shoot tears. =:) Mechanics are different and you can make up some combos (some beneficial, some run-ruining ones: there are few challenges based on that). Plus, with all that new content, the game got so much replayability, even more with DLC! But Eternal difficulty in original seemed harder than Hard difficulty in Rebirth.

So, if you are really interested (like abandoning all backlog games to play it right now) - then go! Else - wait for winter sale, it got nice 40% off for original owners.
[*] Oh, and I've beaten both games to 100%. Twice original, once Rebirth. I like them very much. =:3
