Janus X has been laid to rest.
I'm guessing Hardcore Elite mode has permadeath? Sounds rough, if so. Good luck!
Comment has been collapsed.
Hardcore is an optional permadeath check box, Elite is the highest difficulty. Rough indeed, and thanks. ^^
XII died in the same dungeon (different layout) XIII just entered because he didn't react quickly enough to a champion's ranged attack. It's the furthest we've been. I'm both excited and scared.

If it reaches the point that I give up due to frustration then I'll consider reading a / that guide. I'm trying to do it with the least amount of guidance as possible. It's stressful. I felt uncomfortable enough with the few recommendations that were offered previously. I'm just weird like that.
So far my skills are "working", though I've only invested in 4 (2 passives) and I'm only level 28 and for whatever reason I'm sitting on 4 unused skill points and 40 unused stat points. At least I started using my gems! XD
Comment has been collapsed.
I just liked hoarding them cause they're colorful. XD
I've started upgrading though. I've also got a 4 slotted bow that I'm keeping up to date with new element gems. Kinda pointless since the bow is becoming obsolete but... shrugs pet project? Yes, that will be my excuse! XD

I can see myself reading this thread again in a couple of months learning about how Janus CXIII was almost there but died because "reasons" D: I havent started yet the new play, i tried some Grim Dawn and now im in love of the Shaman Class, so OP, so broken, why do they have that crazy summon? D:

I didnt like Victor Vran, too much steamlined and repetitive, i prefer more Van Helsing, at least you laugh with the puns during the adventure D: Of course, that is my opinion D:
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm intrigued by Vran's "classless" system.
I did enjoy the banter in Van Helsing. I might restart it after Torchlight II, though I do have an ongoing game of Dungeons of Dredmor I need to continue. Kinda like the other 99% of my Steam library that I need to start.
One day...

If you have the three Van Helsing you can redeem the final cut that is somewhat more better and balanced D:
Oh, Dredmor, good times indeed D: I will play it again someday...

Grim Dawn is fun, but not good enough, too much hype and less potential, at least torchlight 2 have a diferent type of potential D:

Daaamn I though it's some kind of DLC or else :D Well after you finish game you can start Game+, which means you start campaign from from the beginning but from the level you are when you finish the game, or you can go to mapworks (sth like that?) and buy maps and make them (sth like random dungeon). Once you pick one of them you can't pick the other. So have some fun with maps, then start new game.
I don't remember which pet I picked and I have never done anything connected with retiring/heirlooms. After finishing game a few times I downloaded a bunch of mods and finished the game yet again. Sometimes I check what's new but almost always Synergis Mod is the best.
Comment has been collapsed.
Would be nice but nah, my subtitles are all just update titles.
I keep seeing that SynergiesMOD everywhere, I'll have to see what it's all about. Right now there's only one mod I really want and it's toggle pet to change the pet's stance with a hotkey, having to manually click it drives me insane when I'm trying to focus on not dying.

Unfortunately I've had instances where Nightingale has flown into the fog of war then all of a sudden poisonous acid arrows begin "blotting out the sun". XD
I'm not willing to risk full aggro on Hardcore anymore. I even go passive sometimes just to check my procs.
EDIT: XD

Heh. I tried going for Elite Hardcore with Engineer due to my good experiences with my shield absorbing damage later in game. I couldn't get past Act 1 because it was multiple small creatures that killed me (damn spiders). Never big ones, only a group (5+) of small fucks. I gave up on it after like four tries, because each time I died it was closer to the start lol. I guess focusing too much on not doing any mistake is going to lead to failure as much as not caring enough.
Funny thing is that if I'd complete the game on Elite Hardcore, it would unlock achievements for all "complete game on <xyz> difficulty" :D Both for Elite or non-elite.
But I plan to get back to this game again someday and try some more. Because I loved TL2. ... Oh and wolf companions 4 lyfe.

Those baby spiders are the bane of my existence. They killed XI. In retaliation I have stomped every baby spider I've encountered since, neutral or otherwise (because who knows if they'll turn on you when you turn your back).
<hurls obscenities> How <stomp> do you like <squish> these <splat> apples!
The blue cave bats are a pain as well. You really need to hunt those bastards down if you encounter them.

Thanks! Here's to hoping I don't noob out and get XIII killed in some ridiculous fashion like XI (carelessness) and XII (more carelessness). xD
I'm nearing the 20 hour mark. XII barely passed this milestone when he fell, XIII is a tad bit further along. XIII almost died to the same champion on the same floor of the same dungeon. That sure got the adrenaline going.

Just found this thread, I think what you're doing is awesome. I played the game through once on normal when I first got it, and I loved it. I noticed the achievement for dying on Hardcore, and went ahead and made a character for the express purpose of letting it die. I actually got very far in the game, and was extremely sad when he finally died.
Comment has been collapsed.
So... XIII died because of reasons. XIV also died because of reasons.
So much reasons dood, slow down a little, you need tactics, strategy, luck and some blessings from gods to continue this campaign D:
Comment has been collapsed.
My strategy was sound! My luck just ran out on my 3rd reentry. That is what I choose to believe! XD
Though minor arguments could be made that I could've ignored the dungeon and continued exploring or I could've farmed completed dungeons for more loot and experience or the most obvious, I could've waited til my brain fully woke up.

Hi there! I'm up for that as well, providing everyone can get along with each other as I suspect we may need to communicate. Also, you will make 3, including myself.
To be continued.
UPDATE:
I'll create a new discussion in my inactive personal Steam group to discuss the specifics with whoever's interested in this venture. I'll also update this discussion when it's all typed up.

I probably wont really have time in the next week or two, but just following your thread had me thinking about reinstalling. If I do I'll add you.
EDIT; also I realized that the 123 hours that steam credits me with is way off because I was without internet at home for a few months and that's when I really got into this game (and wasn't getting credited with that play time). pretty sure i'm somewhere well north of 500 hours (though way out of practice of course)

Your schedule is fine, I would actually like to get a bit farther along in my own personal game before starting co-op. I believe co-op games are more difficult but two to four players should be able to progress at a stable rate even on Elite, though I don't expect 10 hour sessions like I tend to do. XD
I probably have a bit of unaccredited time as well.
Comment has been collapsed.
I played on Normal before my hiatus, I've played Elite Hardcore exclusively since returning this February.
There's a lot of the game I don't know as I haven't completed it before, including what most of my skill do. I through XIV was a lot of learning and experimenting. XVI was very promising but died during The Djinni's Second Task, not for lack of trying though, I just didn't understand / remember the mechanics.

ANNOUNCEMENT 02/22/16: Divided We Fall
A few individuals have expressed interest in co-operative play and I've mentioned in replies that I'm open to the idea. I've moved ahead with creating a forum in my inactive private group. Do let me know if you're interested.
Please let me know if (as an outsider) you canview the forum or the discussion. I'm tired and it's possible I screwed it up somehow. If changing the category for this buggered my discussion I will be sorely pissed.
EDIT:
I forgot I could just log out and check myself...
UPDATE 02/21/16: Misery
Fazeer Shah is a fucking asshole. - Janus XVI, Level 36 Prominent Hardcore Outlander
Here's A Story About My UncleThese two are public:
DLC: GRID Autosport - Drag Pack.DLC: GRID Autosport - Road & Track Car Pack.
EDIT:
Rawr? Grr! What's up with those two characters under the giveaways. They're irritating me, someone kill them please.
UPDATE 02/18/16: Reasons
So... XIII died because of reasons. XIV also died because of reasons. I... am going to take a break until tomorrow (this) evening. Yes, I'm addicted. Also, sandrats are the cutest!
XIII walked into the Undercurrents and was greeted by a champion, a handful of flying bug... things, roaches, and did I mention the champion was a summoner? He retreated out after first contact and the realization that a few steps deeper was another champion, more flying bugs, the possible source of the roaches, and more roaches. Convinced he could survive the restrictive kiting he made some gear and fish adjustments and bravely reentered the dungeon to what would be his swift demise. The champion used it's AOE just as XIII entered, catching him in the hell fire as it quickly advanced and melted XIII's face with it's shout, like hot acidic jizz on a cold winter night. I am so done (I'm not).
XIV thought that snazzy Silence spell would prevent the champion he faced from casting it's fireball spell. It didn't. Nightingale laid a piece of parchment on his grave which read: "He just was not prepared. Next time send out the fast bowler." She really didn't, that was all XV's doing. He's a prick.
1.My backlog of games to giveaway is going to run out eventually. I should seek employment as a writer so I can afford more updates. XDThere's a funny story behind why I put down Remember Me. It's the reason Droning by numbers is featured on my profile (achievementstats.com is a respectable website, yes?). I was 7 hours into my first real adventure with Nilin when a close friend PM'd me asking for some technical help. Being the good friend I am I found a safe spot in a prison cell and paused my game. It was about 08:00-09:00. I hadn't slept the night before because I was having fun. Upon return I forgot the danger of the area I was in, walked out of the cell and stood looking around trying to remember which way I was supposed to go, not paying attention to the patrolling drone that was creeping up behind me. It killed me. After dying and cursing because I like to RP my characters, I noticed the achievement, decided "why the hell not", and loaded back into the game and allowed the drone to kill me 4 more times. I haven't touched Nilin since.
Hell, I typed all of that then noticed a friend wishlisted Remember Me. So here's a level 3 giveaway for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified instead. Sorry?I hoped you enjoyed story time with Sej though. =/UPDATE 02/16/16: Trust
Just a minor update.
Janus XIII recently completed a very grueling Phase Beast Challenge in the Ossean Wastes. After felling his enemies he stood in front of 3 great doors deliberating which one to open with his one single key.
Janus XIII learned that day to not doubt his faithful companion. After all, he relies on her for everything else.
Here's a level 2 giveaway for Overlord. Be aware that this doesn't include Overlord: Raising Hell to my knowledge. And here's another level 2 giveaway for Overlord II.UPDATE 02/11/16: Emotions
Janus XI just died. In a comment somewhere I said X broke my heart, but XI actually gave me that sinking feeling. I think I need a hug.
To make matters worse I encountered 5 wandering enchanters. I also accumulated about 18,000 gold to pay for enchantments. Torchlight presented me with "all new" never before seen world maps. I even (finally) got the Well Dressed achievement! I died to a bunch of baby spiders that spawned around me after accidentally touching a cocoon. My life evaporated in under 3 seconds. There was nothing I could do. I encountered them moments before but I wasn't 100% certain they spawned from the cocoons because spider tunnels were present. I think I need a break until the weekend. No, I don't want to talk about it.
The mixed skill build using your recommendations worked well, thank you, so I will be using it again for XII. I've also discovered a relatively good keybind layout that gets me around the movement issues. It's not 100% full proof but it's much better than the crap I had to endure before.
Here's a cute kitty game. Yes, I actually looked for something cute to giveaway. And here's some other thing. Enjoy. Also, Betrayer is still open.OP 02/10/16: My Edge of Tomorrow
I decided to get back into Torchlight II after a lengthy hiatus, and what better way than Hardcore Elite, am I right? I'm 0 for 10 at this point, with my highest character at level 17 (or 18), Janus X. He died to cave bats and the game's frustrating movement mechanics, meaning he stood his ground and attacked instead of retreating when I meant for him to retreat. He's the third character to die as a result of the mechanics and it's beginning to piss me off.
Janus I through X have all been Outlanders, and Janus XI will be an Outlander. I will complete this game with an Outlander even if it kills me (another 90 times). I will also do it without "heirlooms*" because I'm a masochist (not really, no) and I love it hard. 8D
Did I mention I went through 10 Hardcore Elite Outlanders in 4 days?
Did I mention I haven't completed Torchlight II on any other difficulty, so I actually don't know what the hell awaits me around the next corner?
Did I mention I love yogurt?
Note:
I refer to Unique or augmented items stored in Shared Stash and used to aid the journey of new characters or alternate characters as "heirlooms".
I would utilize it as intended if I didn't perma-die. "Fruit from a poisoned tree" kinda thing.
Oh, and here's the level 3 giveaway for Betrayer, because I'm sentimental about this one and because I can. I can, can't I?Here's an additional level 2 public giveaway for Hitman: Absolution. Don't get too excited, it's just the base game. I probably should have made this this level 1, what was I thinking, I don't want to keep the key! DXComment has been collapsed.
