I couldn't get it to work on Mac... I ended up just using my laptop for it, but it'll crash after a while and need me to restart it.

My ASF is running on my server since 2 weeks now, without a single crash. Make sure you're using latest Mono and latest ASF, and if crash still happens, visit ASF thread on SG (as this one is for joke purposes only), and attach log.txt
generated by ASF, which contains the reason of crash.

I realized it wasn't the latest version. I might try running it on my Mac again, too, maybe it'll work for me now.

"I realized it wasn't the latest version."
How is that possible? Did you get it from somewhere other than directly?

I downloaded it a while ago... Does it normally auto update?
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think it does. You have to redownload it periodically, especially if you run into any problems.

I didn't think so, I hadn't updated it to the latest version before this thread. Just checking now, though, my bot is offline again, so it must have crashed again... I'm too lazy to go start it up and everything again right now, it's probably just my computer, anyways, idk.

I wonder if it would work with CrossOver too? because I own that at least and I'm a little picky when it comes to installing more.. It's a VM but I am not sure if it comes with all needed NET frameworks. I know sometimes when I install games, it installs additional NET stuff.

The only dependency is .NET Framework 4.6.1, and link to it is included on setting up page on wiki.
But ASF works natively on Windows, Linux and OS X, so running it inside virtualization environment is like an overkill. Unless somebody wants to do that for "safety" purposes, but I can't see the real reason for doing that either.

the only reason would be to not download Mono, really. I think I will download it for Windows and play with it until I'm familiar enough to know if I even need direct control on my main account. Thanks for your help, I'm sure I can set it up on my Mac with the guide you provided.

I would not be surprised if actual number of bots are twice as big, because some people disable statistics feature.

is there an advantage of using this over idle master?
Comment has been collapsed.
You can always try. The problem is not lack of supporting the framework being used, because it's supported since Mono 3.0, but the fact that Mono is not bugless in older versions, so ASF may not work correctly on it.
You can always compile from source, although that's probably too complex to do.

I tried, it doesn't work. On first run it crashes with a StackTrace: at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.TaskAwaiter.ThrowForNonSuccess and from then on it endlessly spams Disconnected from Steam! / Reconnecting.
Not going to try compiling, I have zero experience with that.

Cool, I have one ever since idlemaster randomly couldn't log into my account one day.
I have a question, why is it that with this program sometimes I get card drops when I am not running anything? As in, I'm not in a game and it's not running but a card may drop. That never happened with idlemaster.

Fret not my fellow peeps. I can confirm that after many hours of conversation with ArchiBoT, that it is indeed retarded. His destructive programming will take effect. He will be irresistibly drawn to large cities, where he will back up sewers, reverse street signs, and steal everyone's left shoe.

With goblins already stealing my left socks from the dryer, I'm soon going to have to walk barefoot in the snow on my left hand side. :s

TBH I'm not really happy from jshackles discontinuing IM, hence, this thread was created before jshackles even announced that.
IM was really newbie friendly and easy to use, ASF was always dedicated to "experts" having rather higher expectations, such as being able to farm from inside Linux servers, or farm many accounts at once without putting IM on every virtual machine with it's own steam client.
Now ASF is getting rather massive amount of new users, and while I still don't think that it's hard to set up (because with really well written wiki it's not), definitely it's less user friendly than IM, because it was never targetted at user who would need that (as he had IM).
I might need to spend more time on developing this little thing from now on, so perhaps I could add that missing piece which is called "being friendly". Eh.
Kinda sad that jshackles decided for such move, I can understand him being pissed off, because I also left some rather promising projects behind because of one reason or another, but I expected from him to understand a bit better why Valve is introducing all these annoying changes.
Well... Guess I'll put up that donate button which I wanted to avoid, and give ASF some more love in ongoing days :3.

but I want a plane T_T
no, but UI isn't necessary imo, just would be nice if there was a FAQ with different problems(since I found nothing connected to mine :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, but I meant more of a Frequently Encountered Errors/Problems, since I didn't find anything like that and it might be easier to do than answer everyone (maybe)

I don't mean my problem, just if people stumble at the same points then a sign would be useful ^_^
pls no hate, it's 6 am and thinking is hard...

Maybe a temporary holdover option for increasing user-friendliness (for the people who just want to get it up and running quickly without all the special options) would be to emphasize the minimal.xml file first in the wiki/FAQ, then moving all the copy+paste "priority".xml file information to underneath it on the same (or a different) page for the more advanced users.
The instructions for most users would then be as simple as: 1. Change "false" to "true" on line one. 2. Enter your Steam log-in ID on line two. 3. Enter your Steam password on line three. 4. Start up ASF.exe, wait a bit.
Also, is there any reason why the flag can't be set as "true" already once downloaded? I don't program at all. Users would only need to type in their Steam ID and password to get going.

Instead of "why program doesn't run" people would ask "why do I need to enter credentials on each startup!".
No, this is no go. If somebody wants to use ASF, he needs to read wiki, at least setting up page. It has nothing to do with programming, you're editing config, not writing code.
Perhaps it improves a little with ASF V2, when I make some major breaking changes and other stuff, but we'll see.
Comment has been collapsed.
Understood, except why would they need to write in their details again on each start-up like this?
Comment has been collapsed.
Because config would include null value for steam login and steam password (user should edit that), and ASF in this case asks for that on each login.
So now at least user knows that something is not right and reads the wiki, because program doesn't even run, while in your case he'd think that it's a problem of the program that it doesn't save credentials.
