I'm a modest achievement whore by any means, but it's a little solo hobby that I enjoy plugging away at day by day, and I'm proud seeing my progress, particularly watching my achievement percentage creep up little by little. I realized that I barely paid any attention to the number of achievements I've gotten at all!

Is that true for other people who care about achievements? What matters more to you? Why?
Comments about 'I don't care about achievements/I think achievements are dumb/etc' will make my eyes glaze over and be ignored!
I would attach a giveaway to this but I'm broke!

Number of Achievements
Percentage of Games 100% Cleared

Percentage.
I own next to no of those 1000+ achivement "games", so my number isn't that high anyway.
I like to go for most cheevos, but not always for 100%. Any achivement for online / co-op play is out because I only play singleplayer. And then there are some I either find ridiculous ( AR-K: The Great Escape - Worker) or the mini game ones in Stardew Valley. I absolutely love the game, but I had that mini game and won't spend any time on that instead of enjoying Stardew Valley itself.

If I absolutely had to pick one, I'd say percentage but in truth it's more about which achievements I've earned. There are plenty of games--even good games!-- that only have unmissable story related achievements. I mean, I still appreciate seeing the little achievement box pop up in the corner of my screen because that is somehow addictive, but I haven't really achieved anything by playing those games. On the other hand, it's really satisfying when an achievement unlocks because I've just beat a game on Insane difficulty or found a secret area that only .01% of gamers have discovered.

Although, I would like steam to do something more dramatic on 100% games with high average playtimes (think 100+ hour RPGs or something like that). I've just spent entire days of my life completing that game and finding every secret! Bling out the page; give me a shiny gold border around the title of the game at least! 😉

And, of course, nothing is more annoying than the "thanks for being a kickstarter backer!" achievements. I will always remain at 99% completion because I didn't know your game existed during development? Really? sigh

i want to say number because that's what i usually focus on since I'm not good enough to 100% most games, but that 100% is so much nicer

Though with bugged achievements, time restricted achievements and ones that require friends or multiplayer for long dead games it's not even possible to get 100% on everything so I really want to stop caring about it. So I've somewhat convinced myself high numbers are good. feels a lot better on ms platforms with gamerscore, on steam its only a personal challenge 'cuase achievements can be gotten so easily illegitimatly and half the checkers are over cautious and claim everyone who ever played offline uses sam

I like the number of games I 100%ed. Not the achievement or percentage, but that's just me. I'm also just getting into it too.

I care the most about the general percentage of achievements, not the percent of games I 100%ed. There are too many games that are like "oh just be vigilant" on a bunch of their chievos, and the last 1 or 2 are like "be a god"

I think you shouldn't try to "hunt" achievements if it is not a game you really liked. It is a false, empty satisfaction.

I thought you meant the percentage of others who earned the achievement. I find that a useful metric to determine the likelihood of whether I'd go for/earn it myself, but it's always satisfying when you're one of the select few who snagged a hard achievement.

HOI4 is a fun one for achievements. I'm wasting many hours trying to get them... THat being said, 100% is more important!

So the majority is for percentage and thats good, cause by good we all know those pesky achievement spammy games that just inflate your numbers.
But my god, I have a own special sub category in my steam library recently added (before it was only seperated into "achievements to go", "done", "uncategorized" and "learning") which is "achievements spam".
For me that is a game with over 100 achievements and at the moment it includes:
Age of empire 2 HD (54/294 done)
All wall must fall (0/153)
Blockstorm (0/131)
Gemcraft - Chasing Shadow (86/419)
Insurgency (0/100)
Left 4 Dead 2 (7/101)
Payday 2 (7/1235) [!!] <- I dont know how realistic it is to grind it now when Payday 3 is on its way. Or how much time I should plan for it.
Pixel Puzzels Traditional Jigsaws (0/282)
Pixel Puzzels Ultimate (79/2118) [!!!!!!] <- biggest customer milking devs ever. Its almost impossible to complete since they add constantly new DLCS for puzzels of stockphotos they found on the net (one pack even had to be removed because of copyright resonse).
Prismata (9/114)
Sanctum (0/100)
Torchlight 2 (8/119)

So those are the bane of my library at the moments, apart from some achievements that require super long grind (looking at your Bloon Tower Defense 6 and your shitty "sapper" achievement). I still have over 100 games to complete but those with the high achievement numbers annoye me the most, because they crash the completion numbers the most.

Total quantity of achievements. A lot of games are hard to get perfect because of the sheer difficulty of one or two achievements, or the achievements require online play and the multiplayer is near dead, or some achievements are simply broken.

I think for others it really depends on how they are, the games they have etc. I like seeing both increase. I try to 100% as much as I can with all the games I have especially my wins from SG, so for the poll I voted the 1st option. I think when I reach halfway on perfect games % or average completion % that'd be pretty cool

I think I look more at how many I have left. I always play the game fully without paying much attention to the achievements and by the time I hit 50-80%, I start to look at how many achievements I've got left. I like to see my game 100% finished, so it's pretty much both, but number of achievements matter most when it comes to checking what I've got left to do.

I've had no idea this was a general rule in GA, I just happened to come across this while I was searching for something else. I didn't care if it was old or not as what was asked was personally still relevant until now.

After carefully reading the guidelines I've noticed that what you said is true:

Unreasonable bumping. When bumping a discussion you should try to ensure it is in the best interest of the community. If you notice our community is not engaging with the content after it has been bumped a couple of times, then you need to stop bumping the discussion unless important new information or updates would make it appropriate to do so.

I apologize for that! 🙏🏻

Fyi, necroposting (bumping a thread after a very long time has passed) is usually not allowed in most forum sites. I didnt know it was a thing until a while either.

I focus on percentage, but not necessarily 100%. I try to get a lot of achievements, but I don't sweat it if I am missing some. Though my final achievement on Super Hexagon has been bothering me for years lol

well, i stopped achievment hunting when i had really annoying things that i couldn't finish 100%
some examples here:
sleeping dogs - dlc and definitive is geo locked (can't even activate it in germany) and so i can't get all achievments
saints row 3/4 - both got their online character editor achievments, but the service is down since ... don't know 4 years ... only with workarounds doable
dirt 3 - play with 3 other player in a online lobby (afk 20 minutes lol ... fun) .. game cannot be bought anymore
dirt rally - play the game in the beta ... trash

i would hunt achievments again if they implement the sony method (100% possible with base game and dlc only as + for trophies)

life Is too short.
I just want to make a 100% on games I really like, have the time, and enjoy the adventure...
maybe a few "easy to get 100%"
and thats all..

I have an infinite backlog that needs 10 more lives....

I enjoy completing games 100% and I try to not let the percentage goes below 90%.
Over all the game 100% counts more for me, the global % goes up by the time I play them.

I think for me it depends. The number of achievements is definitely worthless, but now that I'm at 80% completion, I'm less bothered about having to beat a game to get the number up. So in the past I would avoid games where I knew it would be hard (or impossible) to get 100% just while I was building that number up, but as things stand at the moment, I would tend to approach it game by game. Is the game something I'll enjoy playing, even if I can never beat it? Then why should I let a number stop me from trying out a new experience. So that has actually helped me get out of a rut, where I wasn't enjoying gaming because I had all these games I'd started, and I felt like I needed to finish more of them before I started something else, and it definitely sucked the joy of discovering new games out. But it's better now, where I can try some new games, and maybe some don't stick, and that's alright.
