So, I want to do a Besiege giveaway here. It will be running for 4 weeks, so I will make it possible for you to join it.
here's how you can join:
here [Update 10] is simple rar archive containing text file. archive has a password. for a chance to get invited to this giveaway, you have to find a password. once you have it, just post a comment of the text file contents in a comment. DO NOT POST PASSWORD. first one who gets it right, will be invited to giveaway. after that password and content will be changed, and joining process will repeated until giveaway ends.

Good luck ;)

Mood music 2

After each update file link will change

Suggestion: If you are using wordlists for cracking, sorting them helps significantly. Simple sorting took my dictionary attack from around 850p/s to 1200p/s

Special update: If all goes well for me in some stuff in real life, I'm gonna do GTA V giveaway in this style! Bit harder tho ;)

maybe because it might give clues on the structure of pw for the next pw. or even give clues on where to look for it.

Huh? Did I understand this right?
The password changes but the content doesn't? And people will post that content?

who said content won't change?

just for it, added that content will change as well

Not sure if it's edited just now or I misread (probably the latter) but makes more sense now.

I love the idea, ozo! I just finished a 30-minute dictionary attack without success. Time to wait for the next RAR to be posted, I suppose.

30 minutes sees a bit harsh. what's your cracking speed? i mean passwords per second?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Stupid thing does only do ~160p/s in dictionary mode... 15000p/s brute force is nicer, but not really feasible...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Getting about 500/s with dictionary (CPU only) and 18k/s with brute force (GPU) but the latter keeps crashing.

my laptop gpu gets only 2.5k in brute :( although almost 1k in dictionary...

Would you be willing to provide any hints about the password characteristics? Such as:

  • Is it comprised of letters only? If so, is it lower case only?
  • Does it contain any numbers?
  • Does it contain any special characters?
  • What is the maximum number of password characters we should be trying?

letters + numbers
no characters
3 to 7 is good

first file had only leters, but had longer password

Perhaps try a different cracker; I've noticed big speed differences among the few I've tried.

Hey is there a smart man's way?

I mean is password hidden somewhere or only way to solve is a lucky guess by a computer?

not really, because different crackers need different inputs. i can't actually guess what inputs are needed for different apps, especially since i'm on a Linux, but most users have Windows.
I want one way for everyone, so file is the best option

ozo, would you be willing to use and share a consistent character set and maximum length for all passwords? It would really help those of us trying to brute force.

Possible character sets:

  • all lowercase letters
  • all UPPERCASE letters
  • all numbers
  • all symbols

Earlier, you said letters/numbers with a max length of 7 but you didn't specify upper/lower case, nor whether you would use the same character set for future passwords. Thanks!

P.S. And congrats on your Hunger Games win!

Permalink

i don't think i'm going to use uppercase. for now i'm doing lowercase letters + numbers, 3 to 7 characters. won't use symbols
