Which DS/3DS game should I play?
Chrono Trigger is a JRPG classic. Play that next if you've never completed it before.

I played up to Ozzie back in Feb, but then got frustrated when I had no idea what to do next and just stopped playing. I was on vacation at the time so I had no internet access to lookup a walkthrough to bail me out :P.

I would definitely recommend Bravely Default because it is in my opinion absolutely AMAZING! It is incredibly similar to the Final Fantasy games of the PS1 era except in this one you can switch between classes/jobs unlike the PS1 games but that's it.

I've heard great things about it. It helps that the sequel is going to be released in NA in ~3 months :P.

Nintendo games are a bit pricey which is why I tend to buy used copies. Even then though, I rarely see any Nintendo game go below $20 :/.

I would disagree only because I am trying to find someone to sell me their pre order for Fire Emblem: Fates CE (was busy when they went live and missed it) and the asking prices are ridiculous -.-. Probably going to have to wait for it to actually launch and hope for the best :/.
The reason why I want the CE version is because I hate the Nintendo EShop and I'm trying to avoid it as much as possible. CE version is the only one where it has all 3 titles in physical form rather than the 2 + 1 digital that they have planned for the regular editions :/

Oh yeah I know what your talking about. Are they all out of preorders available in your gamestop? I was actually planning on preordering the one that has 2 but one is downloadable cause I don't mind it but I would have to admit the eShop is annoying sometimes. I think you can still preorder it anyway. Unless your in Japan or EU or somewhere I don't know the launches of games but here it comes out like February 19.

They are, I'm afraid. Seems like they got around 5-10 copies and they were out within the first hour :/. I'm in Canada so it is the same date as you and hopefully I manage to grab a copy when it launches. I'll be paying a premium to a scalper for sure, but if it's not too much, I won't mind.

Out of all of these i only played Chrono Trigger, so my vote goes to it.

Chrono Trigger is a classic and I would immediately recommend playing it. It's an RPG that blew my mind when I first played it. Might as well be one of the earliest examples of video games as a piece of art in my books, but Bravely Default is the best JRPG made in recent years. If you like the early Final Fantasy games its pretty much a modernization of that. I also quite liked Nostalgia, but I'm assuming most people haven't played it. Really solid Final Fantasy clone made by the same team who did the DS version of Final Fantasy 3. Really cool steampunk world with really great characters. Not quite as good as Bravely Default, but a solid FF-clone in general.
Having owned a totally legal way of playing lots of games for the DS (totally not a flashcart or anything), I played almost all the JRPGs on the system, including all the really bad ones because I owned the thing for nearly 7 years. I can dump you a list of some of the better ones if you want. Or you can have a list of the really bad ones if you just hate yourself.

I figured as much about Nostalgia tbh. I'm a big fan of rpgs so I tend to have a few of the lesser known ones such as Glory of Heracles, Hero's Saga Laevatein Tactics and Deep Labyrinth (which I just bought along with the Ace Attorney game :P).
I did finish Radiant Historia a few months ago and I enjoyed it a lot. I thought I knew where the story was going, but it turns out I was wrong which is always nice :P. I recommend playing it if you haven't already.

Radiant Historia was a game that I marathoned for days on end. Would have been my favorite DS title if it weren't for The World Ends With You and Luminous Arc.

Already played Radiant Historia and loved it.
I also own the DQ game but I've never played one before and not sure where to start :/.

Well Chrono Trigger is amazing on DS. You don't include this one but I really enjoyed Cave Story on 3DS also!

Already own Cave Story on Steam and I don't like the idea of buying a second copy just for the 3DS. I don't mind buying a Steam copy when I already own a console version because Steam is always significantly cheaper when compared to console game prices here.
Heard great things about the game though, so it is pretty high up on my backlog :)

I totally agree with you and I am acting by the same logic. Especially on PS Vita, that has significantly more indie titles, you can see many of them with prices like $15 and going on ridiculous discounts of 10%. It is out of the question that Steam is the most convenient option, by all means!

I still don't own a Vita and the fact that Sony is being wishy-washy about it's future is keeping me away. Lots of jrps on that platform that interest me though so I do plan on getting it one day, just not sure when.

Well I already own Dawn of Sorrow but not Order. Should I play Order first and then Dawn or does order not matter so much?
Comment has been collapsed.
You may wish to play Aria of Sorrow for the GBA before Dawn of Sorrow, as Dawn is a sequel to that one.
Also, my personal opinion is that Ecclesia sucks arse. I recommend stopping at Portrait, the best one.

Hmm,finding a copy of that game might be a challenge, but I'll keep my eyes open for it :D.
I know it is on the eShop for WiiU but I try to avoid it as much as possible.

In order I would have played them:
Chrono Trigger (probably the best JRPG ever, should definitely be played if you're into it)
Professor Layton (great atmosphere and novelty, better than the sequels)
Bravely Default (interesting plot, classic JRPG mechanics, otherwise unremarkable)
Flower Sun and Rain (loved it, but it's extremely hard to understand and to play even by Suda51 standards)
Never played any of the others you mention, but if Luigi's Mansion is anywhere like the GC one, you're in for a nightmare, and not the "spooky" kind, the "atrocious" one.

Professor Layton (great atmosphere and novelty, better than the sequels)
Well that is disheartening since I already bought the sequels ;_;.
Flower Sun and Rain (loved it, but it's extremely hard to understand and to play even by Suda51 standards)
I'm not surprised by what you said regarding Flower Sun and Rain. It is one of his earlier games I believe so I'm expecting something a bit rough around the edges. That said, I love Suda51, so I'll probably be a bit more forgiving that I should and I'll just use a walkthrough if I get too frustrated with it :D.

I liked the GC one ;_; (though I don't think I liked the ending if I'm remembering right).

You're right, GC Luigi's Mansion was very good. Which means Dark Moon is very bad. It's inferior in almost every way to the GC one imo.
People liked it when it came out, but I never figured out why.

The sequels to the first Layton are by no means bad at all, but I think the first was better overall (though I prefer the second one).
(I didn't actually play Luigi's Mansion on GC, but I watched a friend play and it was like watching her struggling to swim in a sea of rusty nails.)

Lol, not interested in getting a Steam machine just yet. I am due to get a new pc, but not interested in what Steam is trying to sell.

The controller just looks weird to me :/. Out of the 3, I might get the Steam Link one day since I do some use for it, but overall not really my thing.

I'd say Chrono Trigger.... But... 999 ;-;
Gots to play 999!

I've heard that game come up in conversation and I am somewhat interested in the game. The third one in the series is about to be released in NA sometime this year so good time to start I guess :D.

Please feel free to do so!
I always love learning about new games, so if it is not too much to ask, it would be greatly appreciated :D.

Wow that is extensive O.O.
You are right, in that I know/own a few of these titles already (bought Orcs & Elves during the roll for Unlucky last night :P). A copy of Avalon Code popped up here awhile back though I didn't go for it due to the commute that I would have to take to pick it up (though in retrospect, that may not have been the best idea). There are a few titles here that I've never heard of (e.g. Infinite Space) so thank you :D.

Bought that one awhile back since I heard a lot of good things about it. Still haven't touched it yet :P.

For those who don't know, I play several games at once, one of them always being a DS/3DS game. The reason for this is because it gives me something to do during my commutes to class as well as during my downtime at work/uni/etc.
I just finished Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and I need something new to play (the game was great btw and I just order the sequel which just shipped :D). Since I can't decide, I've turned to you fine peeps. While I prefer that you guys pick one of the listed games below, feel free to mention anything that you enjoyed and wish to share.
