You, sir, are a man after my own heart. I don't here Sunshine praised nearly often enough. I'm so gratified that when I searched for the title here it was the very first post. It was really good, even if the third act faltered a little. I'm a big Danny Boyle fan. 28 Days Later is even better. They're both favorites that don't get taken seriously enough.

Moon was solid too.

Awesome flick 2/3 with gruesome last 1/3, which spoiled the whole experience for me.

That's the coolest part, though. The smashing of genres flips the narrative on its head. It was a super cool meta move for Danny Boyle to make, unfortunate that it turned a lot of people off.

I've recently watched some brainfucking movies: Tirangle, Primer, Another Earth, I Origins.
Check them out, I liked 'em all :)
Also, thanks for the GAs ^^

If you like brainfuck movies, I recommend Coherence and The Sound of My Voice. Viy is cool too, but mostly because it uses optical illusions instead of practical effects, not as brainfucky as the other two I mentioned.

I've already seen it, and to be honest a Brazzers movie had better acting and way more emotion than 50 Shades :v

And if you liked Miyazakis film... How about the rest of studio giblis? Nausicaa, princess mononoke, maybe chirios adventure (loosely translated). They are deeply emotional. Highly recommended!

Try The Machine Girl if you want something really messed up in every way possible.
Or try Birdman instead if you want a good drama.

2001 is of course a sci-fi standby, and very similar to Interstellar in a lot of ways. I think the greatest sci-fi film of the last decade has probably been Wall-E, to be quite honest. I'd also recommend all of Nolan's movies, whichever ones you may not have seen, including his earlier indie ones.

Dark CIty is an old and pretty weird movie, but pretty interesting, inspiration to Matrix.
Sucker Punch to most people is just a big action music video, but it has an interesting and appealing depiction of human fantasy and it's relation with music.
If you havent watched Citisen Kain, it's not just a pretentious movie for snobs to like, it's a really good picture.
It's also never a bad day to rewatch Police Academy (3rd is my favorite), or Snatch, or Boondock Saints (if you haven't seen Boondock Saints JUST DO IT!)

Sci-fi: District 9 and as someone earlier suggested Moon
Music: Whiplash and Control (if you like Joy Division)
Action: the new Mad Max (the first 2 ones are actually pretty nice too)
Animation: Mary and Max, Watership down (dark as hell), 9, Heavy Metal (one of my biggest guilty pleasures ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) )
Anime: Ghost in the Shell, Akira (both sci-fi also)
