Paid mods are good if all the amount of money goes to the creator.
What Bethesda did with Skyrim was, 20% to the mod creator and 80% to Bethesda.

40% to Valve and 40% to Bethesda, actually. Bethesda.NET will probably use the formula you mentioned, but I had a feeling somewhere that they let Valve take the initial shitstorm by implementing paid mods for the second time before they announce their version.

i have never used the steam workshop for mods and have instead always used mod managers or installed the mods myself from other sites,if steam starts to charge for mods i will just keep doing what i always have download them from websites the creators upload them to and install them on my own. its not that i dont feel the creators deserve some money its more that i dont feel steam deserves any money for someone else's work.

When Skyrim got paid mods, one of the mods was like version 1.5 on Nexus, while on Steam it was patched and in 2.0 .

I also heard one of free mods received pop-up practically saying "to remove pop-up buy paid version of mod" - not sure if real situation or just "what will happen to modding" story.

if they did go that route and disabled free mods from other sites on steam games it would just push more people towards piracy would not be a wise choice for how much money this "paid mod" thing is going to get them.

Even if they do bring back paying mods i dont think i would care much , One of my heavily modded games is skyrim and there is not a single mod i use from steam they all come from nexus mods and i dont see a way they would force nexus to make us pay there since they wouldnt get any profit and i am sure the mods at steam would never bring the quality at nexus

Only thing i can think of is some sort of vac ban when detecting you are using a modded exe to run the game but that could mean the end of valve since it would be abusing power and maybe other platforms like gog could get that oportunity and steal all valves customers

Nexus only has mods people upload there.

If paid mod isn't uploaded outside of Steam, then you won't get it from Nexus. Some of paid mods when they were released were patched version of those on Nexus.

They better encrypt those Mods then cause someone will just buy them, get the files, reverse engineer in some modding tools, refund their payment and then host in some torrent.

Then me, I'll just sail the fucking seas or not care at all on those games.

Are these all community-created? Because to me they look like CS:GO skins applied here as well.

Paid mods are coming back? Yawn... how boring... grabs popcorn
I guess Valve never learn from their mistakes, do they?
But then, this isn't much different from CS:GO skins and TF2 hats, so I don't see any reason to get angry (if you aren't already).
Better safe than sorry, so, just in case something bad happens, backup your favourite mods.
