Today, St. Nicholas arrived! Yay! Now, I didn't actually go and watch that, because I have to work, but I feels like this calls for a bit of a celebration. And what is a celebration on SteamGifts if not an opportunity for giveaways?
At the moment, I only have one gift to give away - a leftover from Humble Monthly - but I might add more later. Of course, two games I want are getting released next week, so my wallet might not like it if I give away a lot more... But who knows!
(Also, if anyone else wants to create giveaways for Sinterklaas, feel free! Feel the spirit of this holiday!)

The giveaway, and others if I add more, will, of course, end on December 5th, since that is the actual day of the holiday:

For those who do not know what Sinterklaas is, I leave you a link to the Wikipedia article.

I guess my whole country has been celebrating it on the wrong day for decades then?

"Sinterklaas is celebrated annually with the giving of gifts on 5 December, the night before Saint Nicholas Day in the Netherlands, and on the morning of 6 December, Saint Nicholas Day itself, in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Northern France (French Flanders, Lorraine and Artois)" - I guess there's no "wrong day".

Wait what, so it's actually more like how Christmas is celebrated in those countries?
Makes sense tho, as a kid the thing that bugged me the most was getting awesome toys yet being unable to play with them till the next morning.

I have no idea about those countries, just copy-pasted wikipedia.

In Poland we give little gifts on 6th, big ones at 24th.

Weird that I don't as I'm a Dutch descendant. It is one of our names for Santa the other being Kersvader.

And offcourse the whole racial thing again because Zwarte Piet has a black face (from the chimney).

In Belgium most people see De Sint en zijn Zwarte Pieten as heritage and as a yearly good and enjoyfull event for their children.

A very vocal minority of extreme left people and lead by someone that has his picture taking when he lived in Lebanon wearing a Hezbollah uniform and brandishing a AK47.

Most people here see these that call on to forbid and make an end to de Zwarte Pieten as nutcases.

Here in Holland it's a big discussion now, Zwarte Piet has been black for over 200 years now and it should stay like that. It's ridiculous that the UN is making problems of our national tradition while much worse things are going on in the world.

I think it's a combination that the UN is misinformed/only partially informed and that the UN commissioner that judges this is from Africa and doesn't get European heritage and traditions.

In antwerp a few tried to interrupt the coming of De Sint with his steamboat from Spain. They were quickly rounded up by the police.

We had the same here in Meppel and Amsterdam, but here the activists get a pertinent spot on the route the Sint is walking, they ruined the day for the children and the worst is that they did the same last year but they still get a spot on the walking route.

That's not good spoiling that day for the children. Could it be that local autorities are more or less of the same political preference as those activists?

Not really, I think it has more to do with the freedom of speech, but I wouldn't have put them on such a good spot near the route.

We celebrate it December 6th. We would have a big celebration at my old church on the 5th for the actual feast day, when Saint Nicholas would come for a visit.

If it's this movie it's not representable for Sinterklaas and the spirit of this tradition as It's a horror movie. :-)
