"congratulations" OP, you need a gold medal for this as well?

Update:
Hi there just to let you know the person that stole and used the key for my Prey game has contacted me and apologised. He has also paid me the money for the game too. I have accepted his apology and the money. Thankyou for all your support, and the matter is now closed. His suspension should be lifted after 4 more days apparently but that's down to steam. Thanks again.

well then, gratz to the OP for doing the good thing.

Well, if we are realistic, how many? A thousand, tops? Site has several hundred thousand users, and even with single-digit percentage giveaway creator base, that thousand is still a small part, denying only a fraction of giveaways.
Plus, well, he at least repented and tried to make it right, even if it was just because of being scared. Can't really ask for more than that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, but that thousand is probably most of the people making good giveaways. I kept my blacklist empty (not that I give away a lot of stuff anyway), but if I had him there I would remove him now. Just hoping a portion of these people will do the same.
Comment has been collapsed.
Where did you see that? If it's true and as I said in my previous comments, everyone deserves a second chance, so I think that he has a clean history now and I personally forgive him (if it's actually true).
Comment has been collapsed.
Nice thinking. ;) Then it's ok with me. :D He grabbed that second chance. ^^ He was just a lost kid that needed some guidance. ^^

Glad that he willing to fork out the money and pay the rightful owner... I am sure thing would been much different if he shown remorse in the first place...

I'd wait for those funds to clear and make sure there's not a chargeback or something before he calls the matter closed.

As much as this is funny, it made me think about people like OP and their mentality.
So with taking this action:
All at the same time. Seriously? And what were you expecting? "What a cunning guy lel, you are a genius, kudos OP for skimming that tard" response would only happen in a torrent or a shady scammer community forum. But then again, I saw some posts complaining about "wasting the key as some other person would enjoy the game" here, which justifies your action at some point. Maybe you are not that wrong with assuming all that.
Comment has been collapsed.
In all seriousness, based upon the points you've outlined, it sincerely sounds like a mental illness. Not sure if sociopathy or something else.

My bet is on simple immaturity and underdeveloped empathy, which are the hallmarks of being young and raised in a lackluster manner.
Here's hoping, because that would mean there's still chance they'll grow up, y'know?
Without trying to be some kind of "IN MY DAY" backwards-staring idiot, I was a similar kind of dumb when I was younger, but after a few stings (like what happened in this thread) I soon pulled my head out of my ass. Plus the internet adds a layer of anonymity that can sometimes make people utterly detached from their actions. Not to excuse what they did, just to throw a little hope on the sour flavour of the ordeal.

As of lately (well, almost a year now) support doesn't seem to be deleting threads when banning users. Which may feel a bit strange, but then again maybe not.

He deserves a second chance, just like everyone. He just needed guidance, because he didn't know that what he did was a mistake. When he found out, he corrected his mistake. You should forgive him. :(
Comment has been collapsed.
Not a chance in hell. You're on my whitelist currenly... which means you have exhibited awesomeness in the past. Please don't be naive here.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thank you, Matrix, but I'm not naive. I just believe in the good nature of people. If being good means being stupid too, then ok, I'm glad to be stupid. If some people are given a second chance, they may act in a better way. But if they are not given a second chance, they will obviously keep doing the same shit. :/
An extreme example. Let's say someone steals something from you, the police eventually finds him and arrests him, and he gets into the jail. After a few months, he's out, but he needs to find money to survive. If he's given a second chance and a boss believes in the good nature of people, he will hire him in his business, so the guy that was previously a criminal, will be grateful and never do the same shit again. If nobody gives him a chance to prove that he has changed, then he'll just do the same shit again, because people believe he's a criminal, so he'll believe the same too.

Well, considering he paid his victim for the game he stole from him, then I forgive him. I didn't have him in my blacklist, but still, I hated him because of what he did. But now, I forgive him because he did the right thing and paid his victim. And you should do the same too. Forgive him and remove him from your blacklist. I think that (almost - not Adolf, for example :P ) everyone deserves a second chance. Don't you agree? And he needed our guidance to find out that what he did was a mistake. We showed him that what he did was a theft. He did what he did because he didn't know it was a bad thing to do. Please understand this and forgive him. :( He has a clean history now. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Scared? Why? Would we eat him or something? xD He needed guidance, because he didn't understand that what he did was a mistake. That's all. Every person needs someone to guide them. It's not bad to make a mistake, as long as you can correct it afterwards. :/

Well I also reported that to ebay and got that mail yesterday:
Hi there
Will you let hardscopin420 know I have reported them to the police for theft and fraud, so there will be an investigation. Their account will probably be closed too. Thanks for letting me know. Many thanks.
So, yes he was maybe scared...
Comment has been collapsed.
Or he just needed guidance. And he deserves a second chance. You can't condemn someone without giving him a chance to apologize. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
Not everyone is coming to steamgifts for the giveaways. There's the trade section too. :P Well, when you refer to his attitude, you mean the fact he was bragging about the theft? That's why he needed the guidance, to learn that whatever he has done, was wrong. And I doubt that from the people that blacklisted him, there was anyone that blacklisted him because he was bragging and not because of the theft. You doubt, but you're not sure. So, give him a chance, except if you know 100% that he will do it again. xD
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, why don't you give him a chance to see if he changed his attitude then? :/
Comment has been collapsed.
What I obviously mean is to forgive him in your......mind........brain...........however it's called in English anyway. xD And IF you had him in your blacklist (but you don't), you should remove him.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not about the money. Prey is a legendary classic in the first-person shooter genre. It was removed from Steam years ago and one day all of the retail keys will be used. This is one of the last games you should be wasting a key on purposely. The fact that this jerk-off stole the key is his own problem.
Comment has been collapsed.
A good lesson, if you ask me.
If he stole a big AAA game, then it would have been a problem, right?
He apologized because he was afraid to get in real trouble, in which he was about to get himself, since the seller was already contacting the police to investigate this guy, potentially compromising his Steam account if they requested to take a hold of his/her account.
And what's the lesson (or lessons) that we should learn from this topic?
"Never steal anything!"
"Contact a person if you spot something out of place!"
"Don't be a dick"
"Private stuff should be private"
"If you are going to brag about something, better be morally good, or else you'll get a taste of what a mob can do to you!"
Comment has been collapsed.
Funny thing that it is a big AAA game, just from a decade ago. But Prey had a huge hype for its time, especially for being even better in the graphical department than any other contemporary FPS, and having actual gameplay mechanics in the age where CoD-ification has already started in the genre.
It just… disappeared. Most likely because upon launch practically nobody could run it, the requirements were so flat-out insane.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know if your comment or your video is worse. :P Anyway, if 3 pounds isn't a big amount, then I'm coming to steal 3 pounds from you. Next day, another 3 pounds. Next day, another 3 pounds. And so on. I hope you won't mind. :B

It's still funny to me how people reacted to this differently when compared to any other steam scam... like if you offer a game for another game and you go first and the person blocks you people will tell you that you were the stupid one,yet by using a steam key of a game no longer on steam from someone that's selling it you guys react like the deal is different and shit... it's the same kind of things, the ebay seller was stupid and tbh he was LUCKY that OP paid him..
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because people are stupid and let themselves get scammed doesn't mean the scammer is cool.
To keep to your example, it's usually the other party of the "deal" who posts and complains here; I don't think anybody admitting to stealing / scamming like this have ever been treated any differently.

What a jerk. Blacklisted to oblivion
Edit: Yeah, saw he paid for it eventually.

He got suspended for a couple days, not sure if that's what he's referring to though.
EDIT: Or this, I guess.

Guess you have no idea what a witch hunt is.
A witch hunt is going after someone, accusing them of doing something they didn't do and there was no way to prove that they did what they were accused of.
He came here and admitted that he stole something from someone. He was proud of it. A witch hunt would have been someone accusing him of theft with no actual proof and people jumping on and saying he is a thief.
Again he did a crime, he came here and admitted that he did the game. This was not a witch hunt.

http://i.imgur.com/ASlaz8H.png it mentions no where what you said.
And all of you are saints, whoever blacklisted him. I just hope you understand how hypocrite that is. You'd have done the same thing, and u probably already did it some time ago, but nah, when he goes and confesses it, u're all so pure and innocent and honest.
Key was up there, on the internet, it's fault of whoever posted it for not censoring it.
OP probably didn't want to sound like a douchebag by posting it, but actually wanted to tell world about rare moment he experienced. And oh boy, he got a nice feedback, full of blacklists, and 3-4 day suspension.
Comment has been collapsed.
Wrong why? Both are products that are owned and cannot be just copied to use the piracy clause. A used up CD key is a product nobody else can use, ever. Same as a bank bill: only one owner at a time, the one who holds it.
Or should I copy the one where if I post a screenshot of my credit card and CVV2 number and you using it, you going to jail for it?

This part...
a searching out for persecution of persons accused of witchcraft
can be altered....
a searching out for persecution of persons accused of theft
He was the victim of a steamgifts discussion area witch hunt against theifs.
So you are accusing these people of falsely going after this person, which is what we know many people did back in the "hitch hunting" days. People were falsely accused of doing something they didn't actually do. In this case we are not falsely accusing the guy of theft. He actually came here and bragged about it.
BTW I notice that instead of posting a link to the definition you went though all the trouble to get a screenshot, crop it and put it up on an image hosting site, that makes me wonder, why not post the link? Is it because the rest of the page kills your argument?

The best part is this:
"I would never steal, scam or do something againts my morals or something else that's illegal"
So he stole, scammed and did something that was illegal. Apparently wasn't against his morals though :D

Well, guess he's not as big of a jerk as we originally thought. This is directly from the seller:
"Hi there just to let you know the person that stole and used the key for my Prey game has contacted me and apologised. He has also paid me the money for the game too. I have accepted his apology and the money. Thankyou for all your support, and the matter is now closed."

.. he is already suspeneded for 3 days.. for whatever reason.. so.. let's drop this topic ok...
but i do find brag about lucky find/steal... then get blacklisted and suspended.. quite funny...
It's just like a turtle stick his head out of his shell just wanted to be cut off..

The truth is that i don't want games in my account wich i'll not play and that i not like.
So why not notifying the user that was making the auction instead? Because basically you threw a game key to the garbage out of boredom, don't look at the criticism as hate speech but rather a reflection to make, it was pretty easy to help that poor seller who clearly had very little experience on PC gaming. But if you still don't care about it, keep on living your life as you want :]
So apparently you apologized and payed the seller, now that's pretty decent of you. Should update this post once suspension is over to clear things out.

C'mon I bet he is just a kid, he got his suspension, portion of blacklist, apologized and payed money in the end... what else do you want? reserved place in hell?
