I was thinking of creating a thread about this news too, but you beat me to it. :)

If you read the Phoronix article, it seems obvious that they are working at least on the port of Left 4 Dead 2 to Linux.
However, even if the signs are good, I am trying not to get too excited about this for now because nothing is official (Gabe said he was working on something involving Linux in a podcast but that's about it) and it's Valve we are talking about, so they well may release it in 5 years or simply cancel the project...

HL3 will be released as a Linux compatible game along with all or most of Valve's current titles. You heard it here first.

Hasn't this been speculated for a while now? And by a while I mean a couple of years?

For this to work they have to port Source over first. Other wise it will be a bleak launch. If they get Source they can get TF2, HL2, L4D, Portal pretty fast.
