I just noticed I have 0/100mb used on my Steam Cloud, which is retarded, since I clearly remember saving and synching my Borderlands save.

I was about to go through Playthrough 2 on that save. Why is Steam retarded?

Also, why isn't Steam Cloud available for ALL games? It doesn't look like it would be too hard to implement.

RAAAAAAAAAGE! ( meh not really, fuck it :D )

EDIT: Turns out the saves are safe on Steam Cloud. Yay! But I'll definitely turn it off. There's a huge possibility of saves being overwritten by Steam...

Only my Psychonauts save. Got halfway through the game and now I'm back at the tutorial level.
Also Steam Cloud isn't free, the publishers / developers have to pay Valve to use it.

Ah ok, didn't know about the payment issue.

But yea, I'll probably just disable it. Seems it overwrites your saves with older saves sometimes...

normally you can use windows 7 restore function to bring your saves back. at least that's what i did with magic 2013.

I dont use any of these clouds, but my Q.U.B.E. progress did delete twice. Never playing that crap again...

If I remember rightly (which I probably don't), this is QUBE's silly save system rather than Steam Cloud.

i have steam cloud and every other cloud for all the game clients i use turned off, theyre useless, bugged, slow and i dont need them because my pc remembers when i tell i to save something, its good like that.

I got all achievements for Isaac and since it had Steam Cloud, I thought it would be allright to uninstall it and pick it up later. Lo and behold, Wrath of the Lamb came out and I got it in a summer sale a few months and 2 HD formats later, so I install it and see... that I have exactly zero items and secrets unlocked. Motherfucker.

Thankfully, a torrent had a 100% save game for a vanilla version, so that was awfully helpful. So was learning where that so.sol file is, I aint going anywhere without it any more.

But isn't there a problem with Flash based games and savegames such as in BOI? i remember having that problem with VVVVVV everytime i did a maintenance with CCleaner...

According to one of Edmund's old tweets, the cloud was not picking up the right file for it. I think it has been fixed because now my cloud save almost always conflict with my PC save, even though they are at the same % each, which means that now there is a cloud file at least...

Dunno about VVVVVV, I played it only once and will probably pick up later again, but it's short so only the trophy hunters would get into trouble with cloud saves, which I'm not.

Ahhhh so it might be only with flash games that don't have the steam cloud option (Trauma being another example); yeah, must be that, otherwise i would've lost my BOI achievements and items too.

I luckily never had any issues with Steam Cloud, and my 100+ hrs playtime Borderlands save file is alive and well, thank goodness. I still have GameSaveManager as backup though.

Actually, using GameSave Manager, I linked all my game saves folders (offline ones and the local Steam Cloud folders) to Google Drive, so I have them locally on my machine and always backed up in the cloud (in addition to Steam Cloud), you could do the same with Dropbox or any other cloud solution.

Thanks, I'll probably try something similar!

I did that with Dropbox, as it allows me to retrieve older copies of the same file (within the past month), in case something goes horribly wrong.

I haven't had any issue with Steam Cloud, just need to make it closes your game properly and finish syncing.

I only lost my Ys: The Oath in Felghana saves to it, but it was enough to convince me to disable it.

Ever since I started using steam I disabled this out of fear of exactly the stories you folks describe here. I know a friend who lost his fallout 3 new vegas save because of it, and saw a post about a guy losing progress on alien versus predator. Needless to say I was glad on my decision.

I once lost my Dungeons of Dredmor Save.
I really like that game, but it can get really hard some times, which makes losing your saved game really frustrating.

Steam cloud, for once, SAVED my life with The Witcher 2, after getting a new computer and have forgotten to backup the save (which had around 8 hours so far)

I actually like steamcloud. The only issue is when it says theres a problem between your local savegame and the cloud one. You only have to choose the local file.

when i force close my games or they crash it usually asks me if i want to use the steamcloud save or upload my local one. When I press upload it always tells me it couldn't upload and it's going to force me to use the cloud save anyway. WHY EVEN ASK HOLY HELL

and it always puts me back like an hour
