No one said you can't (but actually, I am)... it's still a retarded feature.
I can download at 4+MB/s* yet Steam never uses more than 2.5MB/s for downloading, giving me at least 1.5MB/s overhead for gaming (more than enough).
And with the ever increasing number of consolified games that have a habit of crashing when you Alt+Tab (Dead Island being one of them), your counter argument is pretty much completely invalid.

  • Actual speed is 46.17Mb/s or 5.77MB/s down, but I rarely get more than 4MB/s sustained from a single source.

i've gotten more then 2.5, i usually get like 3megabytes/sec

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have some issues with steam downloading speeds but it is at least much better than origin >>

And agreed with the alt+crashing. However, when that happens I just alt enter (or put in windowed if that doesn't work) to resume download, and just adjust accordingly.

Oh, and I've had issues sending messages bc the other person disconnected (or I did), and this may actually fix that? Perhaps. I'm not really sure

Of course you can, but some games are not exactly jumping happy whenever i press alt tab (im looking at DE:HR), would be nice if we had an option.

It was a GREAT feature, back in the days of dial-up and (for those still using) DSL. But now that we have Cable and Fiber, it's stupid not to have an option for "Pause downloads on game launch" or even "Limit download while playing a game".

To send them messages, so you don't forget. Especially if you don't have any other means of contacting them.

Almost Every normal IM has this. MSN, AIM, Yahoo, etc. Why Steam refuses to allow you to leave messages to be sent on login is beyond me... Though I could imagine someone coming on to find hundreds of messages...

I just don't log out at all if I can help it, much simpler.

The worst "feature" to me is the fixed directory for Steam games. Your partition is full? Well bad luck, you have to delete something, because Steam won't allow you to install your games elsewhere. You have a SSD and want a particular Steam game to profit from that? Well, bad luck again, you just can't. This is so antiquated and would be so easy to implement, but no, not with Steam. How old is Steam? 8,5 years and they couldn't implement this up to now? Ridiculous.

Second worst "feature" is not having enough "spots" for great games to get on Steam that want to.

I use Gamesavemanager http://www.gamesave-manager.com/

It has a feature called "Steam Spreader" which lets you move files to other directories and drives even while keeping a link to the new location in the original directory. It's a bit tedious to manually move each game if you have a lot but it's still better than nothing at all, especially if you have a drive full and don't want to delete stuff.

There's a program called Steam Mover that I use. It moves my Steam games from my main hard drive to my Games hard drive, and allows them to function normally. Pretty nifty.

just use junction points (until steam decides to incorporate it). if you want full power use something like hardlink shell extension, if you want something more restriced but way easier use something like steam mover, either way leads to your games being in whatever place you want them, but with the folder functioning like a "shortcut", and placed in normal steamapps

The lack of ability to disable group event notifications on a PER Group basis (as it stands, we either disable them all, or enable them all) as well as said event group notifications stealing focus. So annoying when I've another window open and have that happen.

I was thinking "No volume select for videos."

or maybe "No account score for achievements."

perhaps "No custom away message or custom status."

No "Repackage unplayed game as gift." option

...perhaps these are features I'd love to see, and not so much bad ones.

My account was hacked through this means. And surprisingly my account was email verified and Steam guard was ON as well. Next time I logged in to see that my login credentials had expired. My account had no purchase from the Steam store. Only had games through gifts/humble keys. Finally managed to get it back after 2 weeks.
