People have been gifting LIKE CRAZY... yesterday and today. This is probably so because of either a sale or the influx of new members. what i'm getting at is that the norml frequency in which games are added is much smaller, making 300 points enough of a reserve

I know but what I'm saying is that currently there aren't many giveaways I want to enter (I'm looking at you DiRT 3) so my points are piling up; a higher limit would mean more freedom to wait for giveaways you were more inclined to want to enter.

I'm fairly sure that goes against one of the reasons the point system was implemented in the first place, to limit people trying to save up their points to use them all at once at a later date.

I think the recent influx is exactly why it should NOT be increased. Too many points means people will not know what to do with them and start entering random giveaways for games they are not really interested in anyway... meaning less chance for people who actually want to play that game to win.

I believe the point limit isn't really helping anyone. You can just bank your points on giveaways that are a few days and more away and can store a thousand points. Forums are filled with people "hinting" that they have been doing that since forever.

omg... do people really abuse the system like that? and OMG 1000 points?! what did they do enter every single giveaway?

Would be pretty nice, especially since the recent of influx of new users also gave out more giveaways. Not too much of a ridiculous increase, maybe 500 is a good round number. Though I'm still pretty cool with the current 300.

Yes, it's nice to be able to have an entry for everything OTHER then dirt and humble bundles. The problem comes from the REASON why we have all these points. I mean it's obvious people code farmed the dirt codes and just the same im thankful they have put them up here then say sell them. My 2 cents.

I think 100 points increase would be great though.

With all of these ridiculous un-moderated spam fests being allowed to generate points, points have become meaningless. It's well beyond the place where you're about to cap out at 300 and figure, "Hey, I should just enter a giveaway I'm not really interested in on the off chance I win, otherwise these points will go to waste!"

My suggestion is reduce the amount of points given out per giveaway, that way it'd be harder to reach the maximum and people don't join giveaways just to store or spend excess points while leaving the 300 point cap as it is.
Other course of actions people do with extra points is generate invites. This leads to a large amount of invites that can be simply dumped on a public website or group profile. Since the inviters of invitees are not reprimanded for bad behavior this could get problematic.
Making the points more scarce seems to be a better solution than increasing the cap.

Thing is though, with the rate points are coming in right now. Some people are hovering really close to the 300 point cap without any games they actually want to enter for. Lowering the cap would only make the issue worse and make people enter giveaways without thinking, simply because if they hit 300 points then they are wasting points. So basically there is no thinking about what you want to enter with how many points are actually being handed out, you are just entering any giveaway that vaguely looks like something you would like to play.

I hit the Max while at School, I entered all the games I wanted to, and I still have 160 Left Over, So raising it isn't the correct thing to do.
I also still think The Cost to enter a Giveaway should be doubled, as I shouldn't still have so many points after entering so many.

Iff you have too many points and dont know what to do with them generate invite codes for friends problem solved

I'm in favour of dropping the maximum points slightly. And raising the points required for an invite to ~100.

The problem isn't a point limit, guys. Nowhere near the problem. The problem is people abusing the system.
How are they abusing the system? Look at all the Dirt 3 games. How did they get these? Through illegitimate means, mainly 'key farming'. Abusing a system to get tons of free keys to post on here to bloat the points for all users including themselves, as well as making themselves look like contributors because they are donating games, when they're actually STEALING from a company giving out free gifts.
When you go to supermarket and get free samples, do you take the entire tray and start selling them to other people? I think not, and yet thats exactly what they're doing here. Except the sale is for 'points', and people thank them for the opportunity!
We should have rules in place to stop abuse like this. Yes its hard to tell, but if someone posts up multiple copies of the game individually, they're just abusing the system and should get penalized.

Exactly. The reason the abuse is done because there's no system that is put up. Cult has no powers. CG didn't have enough time to make the necessary changes but when people all just say "I WANT REGISTRATION TO BE OPEN", so he did. Nothing could be done about it.

I think the maximum points are fine. I just generate some invites when I get too close to the maximum.

300 points is good. there is a different problem. i addressed it in my suggestion before, but it seems it was burried under all that flood of new topics on the forum:)

Now this is a little off-topic, but who else feels like people that give away games (other than the humble bundle) should get their point limit increased? Example: I give away a game for 50$, so my max points go up by 50, i now have 350 max. Of course you would only get the boost once the person ticks the "received gift" box.

on further thought, that should be dynamic. 300 would be too small, once there are much more people arround and much more giveaways.
i would suggest, remove points cap and introduce points expiration instead. so that you can collect all the generated points, but they expire as soon as the giveway, that generated them, closes. when you spend points, the closest to expire points are spent first. that way you can always enter 10% of current giveaways and you don't have any extra for the giveaways you missed. you can't hoard points for later use that way and there won't be a problem with a set cap

With the recent influx of users and giveaways on the site does anyone else feel as though the 300 point limit should be increased?
This would avoid having to micro-manage points as well as ensure those who do not visit the site as regularly as others would be on more of a level playing field.
Thoughts?
