Does someone know what this is about? and if it has already happened in the past?

Paypal Gaming Sale

*I saw it on the new Humble Bundle top contributors list.
**Oh, and before you say google it, it didn't help me much (just a bunch of info on using Paypal and selling games).

Edit: If your timer has reached ZERO and nothing happened , fret not. It just means that the people handling our money (a large chunk of us as far as i'm aware at least) either outsource jobs to shitty programmers or are themselves shitty programmers.

Oh well, the sales probably wouldn't have been that good anyway.

Edit 2: Site updated. Sales really aren't that good.

Not really a human clock, because if you see most of us posted our hours left about the same time. That means that some people will know what the sale is before others... OR the sale will be different in the different regions.

I'm kind of skeptical, out of all things that Paypal would start selling, why games? The fact that they were seemingly advertising by being the top contributor of the humble bundle as well seems fishy to me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is a legit website though. HTTPS and everything.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well if I look at my Paypal transactions, a lot of them are for games - maybe their research found quite a few others like myself? That said, I find it somewhat weird too, weird that they're selling anything at all. For me though, if they were going to be selling something then games kind of makes sense. I'm sure there's lots of people out there who use Paypal to buy games, or would consider starting a Paypal account to do so and this helps promote that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I doubt its gaming only. Some probably got a link for fashion, others for home and so on. After all, who's better to advertise stuff for you then the one who knows where your money goes.

Also, more likely it's a deal with some retailer ore another, as Paypal don't sell stuff themselves (they get a percentage from the seller).

Let's just hope it's not a 20%~30% kind of discount (Blizzard aren't into discounts. Something about cheapening the games).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Cheap advertising, $2000 is not a lot to pay for an ad where pretty much every bundle buyer will see. It's like advertising your game on Steam's front page.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope it's far away from steam's front page, most of us here don't even bother with book bundle, + it's just a small top contributor text, I never read it and I can't be the only one..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But you just got to know it, even though you didn't read it directly from the source. That's also part of an ad strategy! :)

Welcome to advertising 101.
People who buy bundles know where other people who buy bundles are. You just need to catch one or two in your net.

**Besides, I always check out the total out of curiosity to see how one bundle fairs against another (let me say that agriculture simulator one surprised me - who knew people loved riding a virtual tractor that much?!).

Reddit thread with comments about it

And a comment from one of the moderators
Links have been posted in this thread which have been autoremoved because they point to an unauthorised reseller. I - and others - have followed those, done some checking and have verified that this sale will involve an unauthorised key reseller.
Why did I post it? because it was going to be posted anyway.
All I can say is look how the sub has been run - we have always pointed to legit deals where when you spend your money you know exactly what you will get. We want good deals, we want want more gaming for your cash.
This sub isn't a crapshoot where you spend and hope.
When this deal goes live we will post that we honestly believe that you should ignore it.

So definitely buyer beware initially.

"I have had my Paypal account suspended before - years ago and for no reason. It took a long time, many emails and phone calls to convince them that my account was okay. While that was happening I could not use my account. Just because someone has Paypal backing does not mean they are okay. After all, do you think everything on eBay is okay? Remember - Paypal/eBay will side with the seller first."

Beware of Paypal too according to the same moderator.

Once heard a friend talk about some prices, they sounded ridiculous to me so it's probably 'worth' the €38.10 for the people who are into it lol :p

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is micropayments for you! In game they are possibly decent way to cut down the grind... And those are likely mainly bought by older working people without that much play time...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

30$ (or something like that) for a tank isn't 'micro' anymore imo. That's the price of an expansionpack lol. Oh well, I'm anti most F2P's anyway but in this one the prices seem ridiculous to me (and once I heard him talk about 'special ammo' you could purchase... instant game over for me). And true, I have no idea how it ingame works so maybe it's not as bad as it sounds :p

Nah. E-25 is a pretty nice premium tank but its not worth it. And it depends on where do you live. For someone who earns salary in euro this can be quite good. But for me 40 euro is smth like 160 PLN - and I'm not that crazy to spend such money on digital goods.

So that's another interesting point, if they allow key resellers...
What if you buy a key and it doesn't work (e.g. used or region restricted)?! These resellers don't give refunds and Paypal officially doesn't support paying for digital goods afaik o_O

Great, I pre-ordered Diablo 3 ROS, and then it's going on sale even before it's released. Yeah, great way to screw loyal costumers Blizzard.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Isn't it obvious that EVERY game before release is on bunch of sales? Look at Thief and other new releases.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, with a whooping 10-25% off... Of course that's neat for people that want the game, but it's not actually a 'sale'. It's more a 'standard reduction for people looking hard enough'. South Park got a 25% off on GMG, making it 30 € instead of 40 € here in €land. Certainly appreciated, but nothing that will make a cheapskate like me buy it ;)

Well, Yeah. But people who pre-order stuff nowadays should already know that you can wait and get some pretty decent deal on pre-orders in comparison to ordinary prices.
