So the end of the year is almost here so I think this is a valid thread (though for some the worst purchase may come via the Steam Winter sale so in that case feel free to reference this thread at that time).

So what is the game you wish you didn't shell out the cash for this year?

For me the award goes to Guild Wars 2. That's probably shocking to some and even myself because I really wanted and thought
i'd fall in love with that game but it just won't grab me no matter how many times I try to get into it.

Max Payne 3

I pre-ordered it at full price, played it for an hour and a half on launch day and never played it again. Horrible game. Simply horrible. I still hate myself for spending $60 on this.

Guild Wars 2 aswell, stopped playing when I reached level 30 with my main character and a few twinks level 2-12. And Arma 2 CO (bought it for DayZ, didn't like it at all), The Witcher 2 (I just don't like the gameplay).

Bought Sine Mora a week ago. Game was great, but I forgot that I suck at this type of game, plus the power up system is quite punishing and can be unfairly random at time.

I do believe it's when you can start farming inferno fairly quickly that you can start earning money. And yes, it's a HUGE random luck factor as well.

Money wise i didn't lost anything(sold all my gear on rmah , after that sold my account to some guy who turned out to be a botter. last time i checked my old char had over 100k elite kills :D ), but I don't need to make money out of computer games. it suppose to be fun...

It should be a game that i would be playing for at least a year(like previous diablo games), yet it pushed me away after bit over 100 hours. since then not once i looked back.

Well I kinda agree here. Played d2 loads, new characters left and right. Diablo 3, well I have played it a lot but now I've got a decent monk and no real need to go back.
Diablo 2 always made me come back every once in a while, Diablo 3 don't seem to have that effect. Mayhaps one day I'll feel the need but not today.

True, in d3 it was a pain for me to level up 5 different chars to level 60, while in d2 i leveled about 100 chard and i'd love to create a new one and play again :P

I can partially agree with RF. It doesn't seem like the older games. But I really liked R.U.S.E, I thought it was quite unique. Planning on rebuying if it comes down in price this winter sale.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed 1&2

Although I am a very big Star Wars Fan these games are no fun for me. "Normal" is not challenging and "Hard" impossible.

I will try one last game (Republic Heroes), if this one is nothing for me then the only Star Wars game i will purchase if Battlefron 3, if it would come out. So far i have Force Unleashed 1&2, Battlefront 2, LEgo Star Wars 3.

I got those with the Star Wars pack, normal wasn't very hard but hard wasn't impossible for me... Republic heroes pisses me off, that was in the pack but it sucks... DO NOT BUY IT... It is always third person, and the camera angles don't always work right...

I know most people will disagree/shoot me down on this, but I'll definitely say it's Castle Crashers. It's an absolutely terrible port (the keys that show up on screen for you to hit are all xbox controller keys) and some other small things annoy me about the game (like the character I was using, his spell didn't attack in a cone, just a straight line, so if you were about a foot too far back/forward you wouldn't hit the enemies, and since it's a sidescroller that attempts to add a third dimension it makes it really hard to tell when you are properly aligned with your enemies).

If you play with mouse and keyboard, you are playing it wrong.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're right, but that's because either the developers are lazy or the publishers rushed them to get this onto PC.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is a lazy port in that it only displays Xbox controls, but it is completely playable with mouse and keyboard, which makes it a good port. The thing is, games like that are meant for controllers. Same can be said of Shank, Super Meat Boy, etc. You can play it with mouse and keyboard, but you're just ruining the experience for yourself.

Yes, Terraria works best if you have a few friends who are playing it, and one of you sets up a server for all of you to play on. And then you jump on together, or jump on when you see one of your friends playing.
