Isnt it common manners and courtesy? The person spent money on a game and did not have to shard it with us, Be grateful.

I actually agree with op. The "thanks" aren't genuine gratitude, it's just a token gesture usually performed without thought. If you can't think of more to say than "thanks" you probably don't have much interest in the game, and you're kind of a dick for entering. If you can't because you're entering to often, during sales and whatnot, that I understand. That is the outlier, however, not the norm.
[EDIT: I do say "thanks" very often though, just because actual gifters seems to appreciate it. I just don't understand why they appreciate it, knowing it isn't genuine gratitude.]

Well I surely can't speak for others, but I am genuinely grateful with my thank yous. I usually put a smiley emote of some form with them, my way of showing a bit of gratitude along with more then just a thank you. Whether the gifter feels it's sincere or not, I cannot say. But I know that I mean it. But to each their own I suppose.

I agree with those people who say that the comments section is cluttered with "thanks" (some of which might not even be all that sincere, but we can't tell).
Very often I'd like to see actual discussion about the game, about the giveaway, etc.. I sometimes comment even if I'm not entering a giveaway.
I think that the act of typing "Thanks" (or for the really lazy people, "thx") is just so nearly meaningless that the comments section could be better used for something else. Like, actual comments.

Most of you are saying about "site where you're giving away games without any expectation to recieve something in return", while almost demanding as most ppl to say "ty" as possible (in a good scenarion one "ty" per each participant, in a perfect one - even more). Why are you upset or even angry with lesser amount of "tnx" than you expected/wanted to see?
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not about expectation, It's about the gesture and good will.
Do you mean that as a giver, a person can't have the privilege of having others expressing gratitude for the gift, even if it's just a chance?
Those who enter giveaways can all be a-holes and enter, If they win, good for them, If they don't, who cares about the giver?
Me and probably some other people encourage thanks comments is because we can't stand the sight of people just mindlessly entering giveaway in just a few clicks and don't even care enough to type a few words.
I personally hate to see a giveaways ( mostly public) that have a lot of entries and just a few comments, that means some people are just entering them and don't even care.

Why to complain about not satisfying amount of "tyty" ? You knew what you are going for when was creating giveaway: "no matter what they say, I'm gonna share some of my games, love, generosity. Even none of tnx's won't stop me from sending game(s) to the winner(s) e-mail(s) or making another giveaway if I can afford it and intent to. "
It's never generosity, when you expect something in return, either it's some material thing or simple "thank you". It doesn't matter what, expectation of anything after something just kills the point of being as generous as you are trying to look like. Don't fool yourselves please.

I'm not speaking about myself giving out expecting something.
I'm just saying my point of view as a bystander.
For example:
If someone needs help on the street, you can't go help them right away, but you see someone else helping that person. In return, the one that got helped just stood up and walk away without even a simple gesture of appreciation such as a nod. If you feel fine with that, I have nothing else to say.
Comment has been collapsed.
And what if after being helped to stood up they yell at you with "get lost, I can manage to stand on my feet by myself!" or something? Sometimes examples can be confusing, rather than making something clearer.
But to be more correct, it should be the same you typed, but with "t y" being said over the shoulder by the one being helped and completed with immediate runaway. And of course, should those two meet each other later by any reason, the one who fell over the earth would never say any gratitude thing.

Ok, so what you are saying is that people should always express their gratitude with something like this:
"Thank you, your royal highness, let me express my gratitude with a special dance just for you, please sit there and watch me dance for two full moons so you can know how much I appreciate your generous action."
Or this:
walk away, never to remember anything
I see, that is good to know, thank you for warming up my cold, rocky heart.
Oh wait, no, I should just walk away now.

Here's the quote of me, because you haven't read most of above:
" And by words I don't mean tens of complicated paragraphs with medieval english. It maybe just a few words, but you will know for sure it's the real appreciation."
I hope that helped. If not, go and read for more. If not intention to do so, then oh well. I don't want to repeat something over and over.

I'm sorry, but why is it that simple words such as "thank you" are not enough?
It is a common sense to use that word to express gratitude.
This is the Internet, we express ourselves mostly through words.
What kind of words are enough for people to know it's the real appreciation? You can't expect people to be natural best-selling writers to think up such a word.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's because I've been pointing you to my previous words and you have read them not. But I don't care to be either winner or loser, there are none of such in any argue. So yeah, lets call it even just to end it all faster, so we both finally can have time to eat and take a shower, instead of wasting time over nothing really important.

About to head off to bed, but before I do, figured I'd chime in with my last 2 cents of the night.
I know when I do something nice, I like hearing a thank you. In the end, a lot of people do give help, in general, in a selfish way. Many people like hearing the thank you, seeing someone happy at something that they've done. I find that to be a part of human nature. I don't find it unreasonable or unexpected to expect a thank you for something I've done, if it is truly helpful or makes someones day brighter. One friend who's done a lot of things for me even told me that she did the things in a selfish way, as it made HER happy to see me happy. Now this is a simple example, but I think a lot of people do like the gratitude they get for doing something nice. Sure, it may be selfish. But I can live with a selfishness based upon someone expecting thanks for doing something that genuinely brightens someone else's day. Here, being basically a lottery for giveaways, I am still grateful. And I always make sure to let people know if I'm not half asleep. I wouldn't expect everyone to be thankful for just having a chance, but surely some of the thanks are true.
I do know that I also would remember a person doing something kind for me, and if I ran into them again, I would let them know, again, how much what they did meant to me. But perhaps I am a member of a dying breed. Who knows.
Anyways, it's bedtime for me, have a good night all.

The last giveaway i ran was just for fun but it makes you feel really good inside when heaps of people say thanks :)
I didn't say thanks on giveaways i entered previously but now that i understand what its about i say thanks on all of them!
Once my wallet is more happy with me ill be running more giveaways just to see more thanks.

limit everyone to one giveaway entry per week! every member would have to decide ultra carefully what they want to spend their entry on.. either have a chance at the big game giveaways that a lot of people will enter, or increase your chances of a win by entering a tiny game or dlc giveaway that isn't so popular. would more people try to take advantage of the latter? then the chances of winning in the former would increase! i find this train of thought rather thrilling xD

a system like this would completely replace "points"
everyone could be given one entry allowance between e.g. 1st March - 7th March, which means you could save your entry throughout the week to wait until there is something worth entering.
alternatively, everyone could be made to wait exactly 1 week after entering a giveaway before entering another. this would mean you could wait until you find an optimal giveaway, but you ultimately risk the amount of giveaways you can to enter within a period of multiple weeks

Thank you but don't you think the world has bigger problems like climate change. lol

I do too; that made life possible, which made human life possible, which made civilization possible, which made anthropogenic climate change possible.

Why do you care? You have never made a giveaway...........

I agree with Hichigo.
Some people say thanks because they "have" to, Some people say thanks because they appreciate that you give away a game and some people are really grateful that your give them a chance to win the game they've wanted since birth. As the giver you don't know if someone says thanks just because everyone says you have to.
Add a button for those who want to say "thank you for this giveaway, I appreciate it" and the Thanks-spammers and leave the commentfield for those who want to say "THANK YOU SO MUCH, I've wanted this game ever since I first saw it 2 years ago and bla bla bla, You're best" or "Already own this game and I want to say that ...., tl;dr Really good game" or similar. This way you can see the more important in the comments as well as see how many that have pushed "Thank you"
Personally I use two types of thanks. One that is just "thank you" or "thanks" or "ty" to show that I'm thankful for the giveaway and one longer thanks for games I find really special that I've wanted for a long time.

Honestly though I agree, I think there should be a "Thanks" button like the Like button on Facebook or similar services. Whereas the comments should be there to discuss ones desire to play the game, or aspects of the game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Is that really something for you to question? You have given nothing back in return here on SG so I don't suppose you understand that the games given here aren't "free to play". The least you could do is to show some gratitude. And why would we even bother to discuss about the game on the giveaway?? Isn't that why we have a forum??!?! Sit yo ass down son.

Thanks for the Why do people spam "thanks" to giveaways in comments?!

I mean ok, it's very kind and all but they are not really "comments". Do they think writing "thx" or "ty" will raise their chance to win the giveaway? Is it encouraged by mods? To be honest I find it really annoying. But well, I am just an asshole.
editing because of amount of rage i got from comments: I am simply pointing out that thanks and comments should be seperated, so there will be space to discuss the game and giveaway.
Editing last time for people who misses the point. I am sorry if I was not clear enough:
I have been a member of the site for less than a month, I didnt see a thread on this topic before. I am just telling what I think. And yes, i think it is spam and is no way to show your gratitude for the person who makes the giveaway. You want to show your gratitude? Write something better than a short ty. AT LEAST check who makes the giveaway. Do you think %90 people know, even look who made the giveaway. They simply write "ty" because other did the same. They just follow the crowd, and they possibly think saying "thanks" is increasing chance of winning the giveaway. (i actually discussed this with some people and got this answer as i thought.) So go on and blame for not spamming with the crowd. It doesnt show that i am less grateful for the people who makes giveaways than you are.
And please, again dont miss the point i am trying to make here. I am not saying do not say "thank you". But all of those soulless quick "ty" spam kills the comment feature. I, for one want to discuss the giveaway and the game. And get info such as if its legit or not. I want to ask things to the person who makes to giveaway, i want to discuss it with him. And say thanks in my way instead of your meaningless TY spam.
Thanks.
