hi everyone ;)

i lost a lot of my contribution value :( probably because games which I gave away, were added to the bundle list (*). so here´s my question: i gave them away BEFORE (about 2 months) they were marked as a bundle game - why did they reduce my contrib value about 100 points?

for example: when i´m giving away 20 copies of skyrim, i would get about 800 points (= $800, if they´re not on sale). if it´s in a bundle one day, i´m gonna lose all my points? what is this? you must be joking, seriously..

Nope, you gave them away after they were added to bundle

The bundle list gets dated back to the time when the bundle first popped up. Shadow Harvest was from that time and probably even optained from the IG store at time.

I gave away over 50 copies of Magicka I had procured over time and was rewarded by gaining almost no C.V. because it had been part of a bundle a few weeks before I gave them all away.

My point: generosity, C.V. and failing to recognize legitimate contributions are not always mutually exclusive.

Love how you guys are just waiting so hard to these threads to pop up just to point and laugh at some random users, this is just a witch-hunt.
Im sorry but i dont feel bad for losing some % of my CV,either having pages of "thanks you" on my email, y feel bad because i considere your and some other user aptitude really inapropiate, inmature and intolerable.
ALso im so sorry you where the one I Quoted.

Edit: forgot to mention that since more users got their CV dropped and i can enter less GA, i have more points to spend and more chances overhall, not to mention that i like the change, i whined personally in steamchat to CG about the inssue moths ago.

It's fine if people can't give, but then they shouldnt expect to get access to contributor giveaways. Either be happy with what you get or dont spent the money on bundle games and buy other cheap games instead.

This is a thank you giveaway for contributors. All users that have successfully sent $x.xx worth of gifts are eligible to enter. Your contributions to date, $x.xx.

If people can spend $6+ buying 10x bundled games to farm CV, why can't they buy 1 game on sale for $6?

Because on paper 6 crazy machines gives 60 dollars worth of CV,while a 6 dollar game gives 6 dollars of CV.IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CV

Want CV? Give away a non-bundled game. Only got $5? Go buy a non-bundled game. There's no real way to justify contribution farming. Granted the 0 CV can be a disappointment for some, I assume you've heard the phrase "quality over quantity".

Yes but a 5 dollar game would give 5 dollars worth of CV,while a bundled game before being added to the list would give WAY more. It's all about the contrib..

Bundles are essentially sales. You can easily buy games on sale from Steam, GMG, GG, GGG, Nuuvem, etc. for 75-90% off.

Yeah i know, im not defending..i AGREE with u... but anyways...u dont know when a game will enter in a bundle..Generally are games or 5$ so..its the same...or maybe a game of 50$ like Darksiders 2... Who knows......

BUt well.. admins have to see that, not you or me :p.So lets do a GROUP HUG!

Yes that's true. I've bought games from Steam to giveaway at a later date that get bundled less than a month later. Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to hoard indie games that will likely enter a bundle or be the BTA of Humble Bundle.

They retro actively take away value back to the day it was introduced to a charity/indie bundle if it is a late addition to the bundle list. If you gave it away any day before it was ever in the bundle, you would still get full value. Since Skyrim isn't indie, even if went on for 95% off, you would still get full value unless it was tossed into a Charity Bundle (Re: Humble THQ bundle), then it would lose value from that day on.

Permalink

Nah I'm pretty sure the new policy is that most things above 90% off would be considered bundles. Indieness has nothing to do with it.

When the games were added to the bundle list doesn't matter, unless your giveaways date back before the day the bundle started, you're gonna lose your points.

Basically: If you get your games from a bundle, you won't get any CV from them except the first $30. So go cry somewhere else.

If you gave the game away before it was in a bundle, your contribution value is safe. However, if your game has been given away after the beginning of the bundle, even if support didn't have time to add it to the bundle list, it will count as bundle when the game is added. In your case, I believe it's due to Shadow Harvest finally being added to the bundle list, from last november Helldorado Bundle, after a lot of debating.

You can look at the bundle list to know when a specific game started counting as bundled. Any giveaway made before that date will remain unaffected.

If you want to give a game, you give the game. If all you care about is the CV, I'm sure you'll be able to find another game to give away.

No, if you want to give them away, you just give them away, the CV you get from them is irrelevant. If you're buying games and giving them away for the sole reason of raising your CV, you should just stop because that's stupid.

Actually you should give away a game because you don't need it,or for the sake of giving away, and don't care about the contribution value

You see,the fault is not to try and achieve a high cv,but doing so in a way that would exploit low value bundle games that offer decent cv(see the crazy machines craze, sorry for the pun).Paying 1 dollar for a game and expecting to get 10 dollars worth of cv is a bit far fetched don't you think?Unfortunately there are collateral victims that may have bought the game during a bundle, and don't get their deserved cv.
The cv system is not perfect, they know it and will probably be changed,in the meantime we have to hang on.

then give away the bundle, full bundle is 100% whitelisted CV

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes i think it could be a good idea, but the problem with bundles is some have 1 dollar minimum, others have 1 cent, not only but there is the average price that fluctuates, which means people buying above the average would loose whatever they payed above 1 dollar, plus you pay 1 dollar for n games,so if there are let's say 3 games, you actually payed 33 cents every game,so getting a dollar would be more than you actually payed.
PS: you can giveaway the full bundle for 1 dollar

No you don't have to check anything. If you got the game from a bundle, it's gonna be on the bundle list eventually and you will lose all the CV.

While creating a giveaway, if you see a "*" symbol next to the game title it means it's a bundled game and you'll get no CV from it. Capische?

There are tons of threads about Humble THQ bundles, Shadow harvest and Crazy Machines (+the CV farmers). You should have expected that one day they will put them on bundle list. Beside that, complaining that you don`t get 20CV for 1$ is just rude...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You don't get the point. When the game gets "tagged" doesn't matter.

Let me explain:

Scenerio 1:

  • April 5: The game is in a bundle. You buy the bundle.
  • April 6: You give away the game. It's not yet in the bundle list, so you get CV from it.
  • April 7: The game gets in the bundle list. You lost your CV, because you gave away the game after April 5, which is the date the game was bundled.

Scenario 2:

  • April 3: You buy the game.
  • April 4: You give away the game.
  • April 5: A wild bundle appears. The game you gave away yesterday is now in a bundle.
  • April 7: The game gets in the bundle list. You don't lost your CV, because you gave away the game before April 5, which is the date the game was bundled.

You see how it works now?

The date a game is MARKED as a bundle game here is irrelevant. The only date that matters is when the game was made part of a bundle. If you gave the game away before the bundle was sold, you keep full CV. If you gave the game away after the bundle was sold, your CV will be reduced to bundle value.

People are not whining about those people giving games. Its about using a hole in the system to gain access to giveaways they regularly wouldnt be allowed to enter. Now the hole got fixed and abusers complain that it got fixed.

Hell, give as many CM and Shadow Harvest and whatever away as you like, but dont expect to become a major contributor of the site for being so super generous to give away 2k $ of CM...

lol

the correct way is

100 CM bundles ($1) and 100 rome ($1). $100 gives you $2000 (CM) and $100 gives you $1000 (Rome). Quite a difference,don't you think?
