1$ = 1 point. The game costs 12$ at steam and it costs 12 points to enter at steamgifts. It sets by itself.

It's always 1P per 1$ value of the game, so in this case it's gonna be 12p. And don't worry about entries - on SG it doest matters if your GA gets 3 entries or 25000 entries - It will still count the same. You will not be getting any points for finished GA, just get your CV boosted (for bundle games like this one up to 30$ max).

no
the only result is you get a stat on your profile(cv) that says how much you gave away. and sometimes giveaways have gates so over a certain amount can enter
everybody gets the same pool of points. every time a gift is given on the site 5% of its value is added to everybody's point total. you can have up to 300 points at any time and there is no way to earn buy win or otherwise get extra beyond the universal regeneration. read this

thats exactly what doesn't happen here(well technically thats right actually but not how you think)
everybody has the same points. there is only the universal point generation(5% of gift value is added to everbod's point total. you can bank 300 at any time though
instead of a set regen the point generation is tied to the supply of gifts you could enter which makes more sense.
What cv is is that gifts you personally give are tracked in your profile. some gifters choose to make giveaways available for those with over certain values of cv

Ok, I know am supposed to know what CV is but I don't, someone invited me to group then told me about site (I entered a lot with starting points but never won anything :().
He told me to get more points I do givaways, so I did one.
What I want to know is, how I get these points? The amount that was entered when its offer or a random amount of points? And whats CV??
Comment has been collapsed.
cv is based on the steam store's value of the game
points are entirely separate from cv and just generate(everybody get the same points. they do generate based on newly created gifts rather than a set ammount and interval but point generation isn't specific to you its overall for everybody on the site) >>read this<< I suck at explaining

CV = contribution value. Some giveaways (GAs) have a required CV. For example "To enter this giveaway you must have a contribution value of 100$" or something alike.
E.g. this GA has a CV of 1$ http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/1w23b/faerie-solitaire

1 yes
2 certainly not

(I don't understand how you keep getting that conclusion from these answers
(points to enter giveaways as far as you're concerned just happen on their own. nothing you can do can affect this in any way. details in the clicky.))

You get points automatically. When someone crates a giveaway, you get 5% of the game given away value added to your points. (Example: someone gives away a $10 game, you get 0.05 points, that obviously wont show up in your point balance, but once it gets to 1 point, you will get it).

You get points whenever someone else creates a GA. The points you will get are 5% of the value of the GA. If I create a GA with a value of 20$ you will get 1 point. I will get none.
Edit: Tired, number was wrong. xD Sorry.
Edit 2: Oh and as far as I know no decimal places are displayed but they count. So if I create a GA of 2$ value you will get 0.1 points. It won't be displayed, but when it's a whole number again (e.g. 10x 2$) it will be displayed.

You don't get points for creating a giveaway. Everyone else does. This isn't like gala.
Read the FAQ, it'll explain everything.

Exactly right yes :)
yeah, point generation is universal for everybody, and rather than be x points every y minutes its tied into giveaways you could be entering.
so this is why 5% of all gifts somebody else creates is given to you in points(this is better than set regen because this system won't have "point droughts" when there are many giveaways or excessive points with nothing to enter)
(i think you misunderstood somehow when somebody from chat tried to explain this is all)

In addition: I like it this way. You will be able to enter GAs worth 5% of all GAs created. You can't enter 5% of the GAs, maybe more, maybe less. Depends on how expensive the GAs you enter are. So if there are many GAs you wont be frustrated for not being able to enter e.g. more than 2, and if there are less GAs you won't be able to enter every GAs. Seems fair to me. :)
(Just my thoughts on the system as a sidenote.)

If you refuse to read the links provided you should at least read the answers: http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/Ayojm/help-am-creating-giveaway/page/1#19771557
The person in chat was either trolling or (more likely) talking about CV. Edit: Or there was a misunderstanding. You get points when other people create GAs. If you create GAs you get CV and others get points.

Of course there is a point in creating GAs. You will get CV so you can enter more GAs. And you are making people happy. :) You will get points (up to a limit) anyway, correct. But if everybody would just sit there and wait there wouldn't be any GAs. ;)

You can create an amount of x GAs. Let's just say e.g. 2. If you create one, you can create one more. If the first finishs and the gift/key is marked as valid you will be able to create a new GA. If you delete the first GA you wont get anything back, you can only create one GA. This is to prevent people from continously creating and deleting GAs.

Read. The. FAQ.
Forget what the steam group said. All the information you need is in that FAQ and in this thread.
Apologies if I broke a taboo. I felt an example was needed.

Ah good. I thought it was bad form to post a public giveaway that wasn't yours as well. Good to know ^^

Read the FAQ, and pay attention when you're creating a giveaway to the things you're setting.

You get points by waiting.
As already suggested, please read this. It explains the following :
The point system is designed to prevent users from entering for every single giveaway. This lowers the overall number of entries, and provides everyone with better odds of winning games they're interested in playing. New users start out with 25P. Every time anyone submits a game, every member of the site, excluding the giveaway creator, receives 5 percent of that gifts value (in USD) in points. For example, if a $50 gift is created, every user on the site receives 2.5 points. And, if a $20 gift is created, everyone would receive 1 point. These points can then be spent on entering giveaways.
1P = $1 - When entering a giveaway, 1P is equal to $1. If you're entering for a chance to win a game valued at $20, you'll spend 20 points. If at anytime you decide to remove your entry while the giveaway is open, those points will be returned.
The maximum number of points that can be banked is 300. This is to prevent users from stocking up on points while being away for long periods of time.
Most of your questions in this thread are already answered in the FAQ linked in every few posts here. Please take some time to read it. Closing.
