Wait a minute. I'm almost sure I tried "axZv5" with several sites including imgur and it didn't work.

Solution
As mentioned in the title, I stole this puzzle idea from Kingdom of Loathing. (Go create your free account and check it out, you'll probably not regret it.)
There were five pieces in total:
The five pieces, when put together like a puzzle, formed the five-char giveaway code, only mirrored.
The trick was that two jagged edges did not align with anything else and two of the pieces were separated with a straight cut.
When assembled, the code looked like this.
