You are just assuming that because you won't move, that others won't either. There are people who won't ignore the rest of the series just because of a different program, which isn't even that much of a problem. I can at least ****ing understand people refusing to buy another console. Origin is just a matter of running an extra program when you want to play a few games.

If it wasn't profitable they wouldn't have stuck with it. They have customers, and exclusives to draw new people. It might not be the main choice for people looking for a digital service on PC, but it is hardly a failure.

Oh sure, but that doesn't mean there aren't people who will ignore it just because it isn't. If some people want to be foolish like that just because start up a second program that is currently little different from Steam itself, that is their own problem. It isn't coming to Steam now, the split has already happened .

Steam only gives a 70-60% cut (not sure, I'm not a dev) but on origin, they get a 100% cut, although many people visit steam more often than origin, 100 is always better than 60. EA's idea was that they force the desperate that want DS3 to buy it on origin. It's what YouTube did with the comments, requiring you to sign in with Google plus, to use YouTube, YouTube is like the Dead space Franchise, and people are buying it on steam, but then they force you to use Google plus, and that is what EA did, forced you to continue on their own provider, so they get more attention.

Also, the symbol for Origin is just the symbol for a hurricane turned orange.

one of my issues with origion is the lack of support for either the games or the user face. Steam works hard on their shit and even works on getting controller support for their games. I use my rig as pretty much my home console so i enjoy the ability to pick between mouse or controller because i prefer a controller more. But hell if they added controller stuff to DS3 ME3 and Dragon age ill play on their client with no problems, though kinda be nice if they just caved in and Partnered WITH steam instead of against

And yes, they FORCED people to use their own distribution. They could releasing their games on various distribution (look at ubisoft), but no. They want all profit. Yes, I know that you will say "but valve have their games only on steam too". Yes, they have. But they cant move their games because of structure (VAC, workshops, server browsers, etc). But EA can, they dont have their games connected with origin.

EVERY company is about making money, so don't use that as an excuse. Even Valve want money.

I'm not going to complain about Valve having games on their own Digital Service, you are the one who has a problem with companies using their own digital service, not me.

EA have done their stuff a certain way, Steam later changed their rules, EA didn't change their methods of updating and DLC, and so started having games removed by Valve. Now, they just use Origin.

As for uPlay, that is also getting exclusives. So you have fun with that. Unlike Origin, uPlay sucks as software.

Strange as it seems, all game companies are for the money. They care about your happiness as long as it makes them more cash. Valve or any other company isn't a magical group of wonderful people that exist only to make you happy, it exists to make the owners plenty of profit.

Valve themselves have done actions that people have ripped into EA over.

Yes, every company's first aim is to earn money. But you can't count EA equal with CD Projekt RED, it's just wrong. It's not the EA games thats problematic, it's the DLC's.EA put every shit on DLC's and almost nothing in main game. They don't give a shit about gamers.

Some companies actually give a very little shit about gamers, even that makes them better than EA in my vision.1 is always better than 0 ...

P.S. I hate Valve and I have no idea why you think EA haters love Valve.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree with you, gaming companies are like any other company. One of the reasons there is so much backlash against, say, the pharmaceuticals industry is that they have been accused of putting money before patients, likewise, EA has had a history terrible customer support, overbearing DRM, piecemeal DLC and games that lack any content beyond the bare minimum so that the rest can be sold later. In addition, they run franchises into the ground by making more games than a franchise can support without innovating, and drive their studios' reputations into the ground. Remember Maxis? The Sims used to get massive expansions. Now we get Katy Perry's glitter vomit, or whatever.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hated how when The Sims 2 came (and subsequently with The Sims 3), they just redid a lot of the expansions from the old game and re-released them as expansions instead of adding them to the main game. Unleashed became Pets for example.

Customer Support? Are you serious? I don't think there any costumer support worse than Steam's. I don't know about EA costumer support but it's hard to imagine worse than Steam's. Also Origin support is one of the best I've seen around. overbearing DRM? First, EA doesn't use that anymore. Second, before there were tons of games with bad DRM, oh yeah, let's hate only EA on that. piecemeal DLC? facepalm Yeah, EA is the only one doing that. If you are so freaking blind by hate, ALOT of games now have piecemeal DLCs.

Comment has been collapsed.

"They don't give a shit about gamers" Probably the most retard thing I've ever read. How the fuck a company wouldn't give a shit about its consumers? Are they like 'Hey, let's do it like this, people gonna hate so they won't buy it, but who cares about that, we care only about money, not consumers, it's not like those two things related to each other' You see something they keep doing that you don't like, errr maybe then it's just you? And the problem isn't that critical for the absolute majority of gamers that it would make EA change their approach? And yeah, that "Origin Guarantee" is still not giving fuck about players as well? You know, if you keep looking only for faults, the only thing you gonna find is faults obviously, so yeah, good luck on mindless hating.

Companies only exist if they make a profit. Anything else is secondary. You can aspire for those other reasons, but working at a loss means you'll eventually close down. It's the same reason politicians pander to votes instead of sticking to those ideals.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Funny thing is EA is such an important name in the industry exactly because of point 2 and 3.

That's why they had the balls to be so greedy. Because almost everything that came out of their quarters satisfied the majority of gamers and tried to take gaming to next level. Few "next-level" ideas from EA... Sims, NFS series (underground), Mass Effect series, RA series, Dead Space series, Battlefield 1942 and BF series, and the last but not least... Mirror's Edge. All these games when they came out they came out with new things that the gamers out there embraced. So keep failing more. Most retarded ways of DRM? Look at Ubisoft and then we can talk about it. What Ubisoft does is indeed retarded even tho it is highly profitable for them.

yes, goes to show how peeps need to do alittle more research into their questions/answers, EA isn't all to blame for the lack of newer content on Steam. It's a dispute among the terms and agreements that Steam has setup. EA wanted to lease games onto Steam, but the dlc's to them would be purchased ingame and through EA ... it's Steam that decided to boycott them in the end. Maybe in a couple of years, that may change, but don't expect to see Dragon Age 2/ Dead Space 3 and/or Crysis 3, to name a few ... become available on Steam anytime soon.

Accept that you will either need to use Origin (which isn't that bad, I certainly have no problem using it alongside services like Desura and GOG as well) or need a console to finish the series (which honestly, you need anyway, as there is the console exclusive games (Extraction, made for the Wii and later ported for PS3 Move) and DLC (continues the story from Extraction)).

All these people saying, "Blame Valve for telling EA they can't sell their games on Steam," are wrong. Valve has had that clause in their ToS just about forever, and every other company abides by it. EA chose to break the ToS and then tried to demand that Valve change it for them. Valve refused and said that if EA doesn't play by the rules they can't sell their products on Steam. I fail to see how that is Valve's fault. Valve didn't come to EA and tell them they have to do things that other companies have to do. EA came to valve and said we aren't going to be following the ToS anymore.
