I find it kinda sad that a game studio, only 6 years old and that has only released one game under its name and has crashed a failed to a new kind of level D':

Was the game any good? I love the Fable series and was thinking of buying the game soon. What is you opinion on KoA:R?

It's pretty much Fable: 2012 edition from my experience, and it's great. Less farting, more elves though.

You cannot jump in that game. I left it unplayed on my origin.

It's key to note that they crashed and burned due to the MMO production and I'm assuming what was bad management. I don't think 38 had much to do with the KoA RPG other than slapping their lore on it, as Big Huge Games had done most of the work. It's honestly really unfortunate that so many people lost their jobs through all this.

I've heard the game is pretty good. Sucks that there might not be a sequel or more games in the universe as I think Rhode Island now owns the IP and they'll probably want an astronomical sum for it.

I found it good. Okay, I traded a CS:GO for it, so I can't complain. Played the demo before (for the ME3 stuff). It was quite fun.

I'm playing the game at the moment and I really like it. Too bad the creators of it ended up the way they did, I feel sorry for them.

R. Salvatore designed the world. I think it was destined to be a success, but now I do not even know what will happen.

Not only designed the world, but he wrote over 10,000 years of lore for the universe.

That makes me even more sorry for the game =/

I feel more sorry for Salvatore. He obviously put a lot of time and energy into this game, and even helped with marketing. He did an AMA on Reddit a while back, too.

Yeah... I wander how Demon Stone performed at its own time. I think he was also involved into that game.

It's kind of sad how such a famous writer manages to design such a bland and uninspired setting.

Then again, I understand he mostly writes Forgotten Realms books. I suppose bland and uninspired is what he does best.

"Destined" to be a success? Ironic wording given the plot.

KoA:R> Fable 3

Fable 3 was the worst game ever.

KoA:R was fun but too easy and the quests was very boring. But I loved the fights.

If you think Fable 3 was the worst game ever, you need some Secret of the Magic Crystals in your life.

I needed 100 hours for one playthrough(koa). Well I discovered every dungeon and was listening to all the conversations the NPCs had to give..I loved the combat style and the cool looking equipment.

I started playing KoA last week and haven't been able to stop. I absolutely hated Fable, well, rather, disappointed, even though I waited a very long time for the first one to release. Maybe if it wasn't for the overhyped, overmarketing, I might have been satisfied with the game. Highly recommend KoA. Killer storyline, great unique zones, and top notch voice acting.

Only good thing about that game is combat system. Killer story? Not even close, that was the weakest part. Story was lame/unoriginal + hundreds of randomly generated boring quests.

Great game, love it, everyone should play it. The Demo is available on steam/origin.

It's a great game, but perhaps a little too arcade-like: with a controller - you only get 4 skills at once instead of the usual 10 on your screen. It's not as open-world as I thought it'd be too; you have "normal-sized" zones and to get between two you need to pass through a narrow corridor.

The DLC I heard is useless if your character is past level 10 equipment-wise.

Anyway. I read the article, and I can't help but wonder if their invasive DRM had something to do with it (you need to be logged on EA servers... for a single-player only game... with a crack that removes the DRM already available...).

It's a shame, really, they could have made great games.

To be fair to it, with the amount of ground it covers, open world would mean things would need to be drastically scaled down.

Fine game, interesting at first but then i found it boring. This game is good at gameplay but the story is quite meh.

I've played the demo, and I kinda liked it, except for the part that it wouldn't let me change controls (had to Alt + Tab to play normally).
A little question is stuck into my head, however : now that 38 studios is going down, is the Steam version (edited by 38 Studios themselves) going to be removed or is it going to be reedited by EA ?

I've read that Kingdoms of Amalur is now property of the state. I don't know if this just means the IP and stuff or also includes the profits made from selling it.

I doubt Steam will stop selling the game either way.

Played the demo yesterday, first time I ever started again on a demo to get more play time. The game is absolutely stunning!

I have about 50 hours on it so far, I enjoy the game but there is definitely an issue with difficulty. It's just so damn easy even on hard. Art style and combat are fantastic. Camera is a bit clunky and the Widescreen Fixer is almost a necessity for me to fix the FoV. Also recommend the FXAA Injector to make it look even better. Sad to hear about their financial troubles, and had no idea Curt Schilling was the co-founder.

The game was pretty ok. Shallow and generic to a fault, but still fun to play.

It's a shame the studio went under, but according to what I've read they needed 3 million sales just to break even. For a completely new developer working on a completely new IP, that's a huge gamble. In this case the gamble didn't pay off and that's kind of a shame, but nothing really unexpected.
