Since last year, on any sales, the price of tf2 keys dropped, but this Christmas Sales, only just at the beginning, the price dropped. But, since yestarday the price is raising.

Any one knows why?

You can check the historical price on the chart

Because the current deals are very bad, a lot of 60% off for games already discounted less and they aren't the most-wanted ones.

Pretty sure they will.

Either people are being smarter and not impulse buying and thus don't require more money and thus don't need to sell their TF2 keys...or...nah, there's no way people can resist these 85-90% off deals. The only explanation is divine intervention.

I just watched the market since I tought: Hey lets trade a game for keys... Then I saw the prices and almost died of an heart attack...

Should've bought all the keys I needed at the start of the sale T-T

Does anyone know exactly why prices drop during a sale? I think that it's because of Russian/Brazillian traders bulk selling their keys they earned so they can earn back the money to get more games to sell, but not sure if I'm right.

This actually the case, if the keys stay low, then people are more tempted to buy the keys from the market to trade, which gives profit to the Russian/Brazilian traders, thats why they try to keep the price not to high... If its too high it would be cheaper to directly buy from the store instead of treading from the market...

Why the steamglobes price went from 60-70 cents to 14-18 cents and the keys are still like 1.60-70

the current deals aren't all that great, so there's no rush to sell and get wallet money to buy things

because its a fucking shitty sale is why. valves sales each year become worse... crappier prices, shitty offerings (dlc flash deals, already-bundled games, etc) - its no surprise there isnt a rush on selling keys this time around.

in begin that was a profit you crafted low cost badge for example 70-80 eurocents for set then get globe card as reward sell the globe card for 80-90 eurocent(people was that dumb they insta buy for this price hahahaha) so you got free badge + 10 or more euro cents as profit i got about 30+ badges for free

If memory serves, the same thing happened last year. I wondered the same.

I had two theories.
1> Valve bought up a ton to increase the price and increase their cut. Not costing them anything as its all digital.

2> There was a problem where people were posting items and no one could see them. So the keys were being eating up really quick to the point that the price increased (as no one had a chance to lowball the next)

I have a feeling its happening again.

Possible reasons

  1. Sale sucks and/or people got done buying what they wanted, so no need to sell keys meaning less sellers
  2. Some just people ran outta keys to sell and can't get more
  3. Some people were selling them to get funds to buy naughty/nice keys, but the initial hype is over
  4. Christmas day means gift cards which means some people suddenly got more money to buy keys which might increase demand

these are all guesses

Haven't paid much attention to this sale but what's usually the primary motivator in keys being sold is opening crates. Last Christmas a bunch of rather heavy money items dropped significantly in price because everybody was crashing out to get keys and open crates. Some of those prices still haven't recovered.

i like it, higher key prices on the market mean you can get more value from the russian traders in exchange of one key :)

In fact not, the russian traders are selling with the same price as usual, so, now, it's worse than before to buy with keys. Price of tf2 keys are rising, but they don't care, they have fix it their price.

Because people buy keys like crazy during christmas sale so people need to up the price a bit.

Because people try to sell them for higher and higher and people actually buy them at that price.

Also because everyone knows that keys can be sold on the community market for funds, so that's worth money too.
