He has just deceased recently. Will update with sources soon.

Even though I do not love all his works, some of them are truly amazing :(

There's at least one more novel coming. He has a new Jack Ryan book coming in December.

The Ryan movie series also gets a reboot in December, with Chris Pine in the lead.

I miss the time when he actually wrote books (instead of just lending his name to things.)

Gonna have to dig out Red Storm Rising (C64) Rainbow 6 (PC) and Harpoon4 (boardgame) to play this weekend...

RIP and such..

But for the games, the added Tom Clancy was just a tagline, Ubisoft's version of 'Sid Meier'.. a name to sell based on recognition.

Except that Sid Meier actually works on the games that carry his name.

GOD DAMN IT! I WANTED MORE JACK RYAN NOVELS!

:(

Well then...time to stalk the nearest bookstores/used library book stores to complete my Tom Clancy collection if possible.

Don't worry, his estate will put like 25 new ones on market in next decade. With his name, of course.

Though, once you realize his war books are all "MURICA FUCKYEAH" where US side has cheat codes turned on and enemy side never does anything right (but does every single mistake in war) they quickly lose any appeal.

His novels weren't good. At all. And don't get me started on the games.

I share your opinion on the novels. I did enjoy Splinter Cell as a game series though :)

What about Tom Clancy games?

And well, I guess I will read his books one day, I've just gotten out of the "TEEN" section at the book store... Sigh, people I heard of, dying, makes me kinda sad...

It happens more frequently the older you get. Some of my professors at the Masters level didn't even make it through the few years it took me to get the degree, and all of them were famous.

He was a good writer. I read most of the Jack Ryan books. They were all at least decent with some being very good. One of the better ones was chronologically the first one, Without Remorse. Should have appeal to action fans; the rest is more espionage.

Glad a lot of you know he had nothing to do with the games. Also, a lot of young adult novels were written in his name, but not by him.

Never say never. I don't know about the novels, but I'm sure new games with his name will keep haunting us for years!

Codemasters dropped the "Colin McRae" name from the Dirt games after he died, Ubisoft is probably doing the same :>

I think that was moreso because he died young. I would imagine that a lot of gamers know his name through the games rather than his books, so I think its unlikely they remove his name any time soon.

Yeah, never say never. he had ghost writers, so some of his stuff was not actually written by him.
