Why not make so that you can create those giveaways but simply without a contributor points reward. And I know there would be people out there saying that if someone wants to giveaway them then they can post it on the forums. Alas, there is a difference between a giveaway and a ninja contest. Also by posting in the forum, the majority of the userbase of steamgifts won't have a chance.

why? due giveaway flooding? then steamgifts can try and implant an option to show those giveaway or not.

ha..this guy serious about giving away exploited keys? that's just wrong and outright piracy...am I wrong? Either way nobody should be giving away exploited keys or making giveaways for them.

I don't mean actual exploited keys, but games that are considered exploited, like my metro which I got from an Amazon bundle, it isn't exploited, but considered exploited. the problem with making giveaways with exploited games is the chance that the person exploited the game in order to get contribution points, if there's no contribution point, why would the person exploit the game then?

it should be considered begging if people push any op to drop keys. alas.

and we'd just get spammage all over if we allowed beta invites/keys/etc, which would result in a mess like with dota 2

Steam gifts can try an implant an option to whether show those games or not in the giveaway listing.

By a mess, I mean it would fuck up the points system. The points system is dependent on number of giveaways made; if there's a few thousand beta key giveaways within a few days then you can bet your ass that the points system would be rendered valueless.

Oh, then steamgifts can simply disable point giving in a creation of those giveaways.

I sure its not my place to say "simply" as I do not know what their system is capable of, but I'm sure it's possible to somehow work it out.

agree. dota 2 flood now. 15+ gifts from steam already.

And no, this shouldn't be done, sorry. All of those listed above would just flood SG and cause unnecessary eye sore and extra stress and load times.

It's possible to counter the flood with an option to whether filter those said giveaways or not, but I have to agree about the stress on the load time, but I don't think there would be THAT many people making those giveaways, especially if there's no contributor points for them.

Even if I don't see it doesn't make it not exist. I had dota 2 so it filtered but the giveaways I didn't see still crippled the site.

I did agree with his second argument that it would create an extra stress on the site. But as I said; I don't think there will be that much giveaways of those items as less people will be interested in making those giveaways if they don't receive any contributor points for them.

I think you underestimate most users ha. You can't get rid of dota fast enough for example.

Well, there's the DOTA2 Bot, and steamgifts can also apply a limit on how many DOTA2s can be given away at the same time.

Again, I really think you underestimate the average SG user. Lol

I agree with the OP. It would be great to have a section of the site dedicated to keys or games that would be considered "spam" on the main part of the site. Before I knew about steam trades or anything else I could not find a DOTA invite anywhere. It would be great to have a place to give away the games that alot of people have so the few that dont could be able to join in on the fun. Also to eliminate contrib value farming they could get no benefit from giving away exploited keys.

doing that will kill the site and in case you didn't notice, cg just fixed it.
also read the past threads.

As I said previously, due to the fact that there's no contributor points for it I don't think there would be that many people making those giveaways. And to combat the fact that some people don't read rules and who will try to make those giveaways thinking there would be contributor points reward; steam gifts can make so that only people who already made some giveaways can create those giveaways in order to make sure he actually read the rules and won't think he will receive contributor points.

Also a good limiter would be that a person can only create such giveaway once a week or something.

true, people might not do it if there's nothing in it for them but just look at bundles.
even though people see that their cv isn't changing from 30, they continue to make them.
and just because some giveaways were made, it doesn't mean that creator have read the rules.

Well yeah, its true, not all who made a giveaway read the rules for certain, bu the probability is much higher.

And yeah, now that I think about it, its true about that bundle game giveaways point, in that case there's also the most basic solution, steamgifts can simply put some kind of limit on how many semi-giveaways can be around at the same time.

I think its a good concept but with the extra traffic it would create im afraid the site would become useless, cause as it is right now its been so slow lately that its on the verge of being useless. its more of a headache to try and navigate the site sometimes than the giveaways are worth since it seems 90% of them are for the same old games that no one wants. at some point SG will just become the place where ppl come to unload the crap they dont want and that devalues the site in general.

That's true, but I did suggest some filters (in other comments) in order to reduce the amount of those giveaways. And also its not like it needs to be implanted right away, steam gifts can implant it when they get better servers.

Even if there was no points given for them, people would still make them and then ask "Where's my points?"

From another comment; "And to combat the fact that some people don't read rules and who will try to make those giveaways thinking there would be contributor points reward; steam gifts can make so that only people who already made some giveaways can create those giveaways in order to make sure he actually read the rules and won't think he will receive contributor points."

There are people who post "why am I not getting more than $30 for my giveaways" and "why can't I give away dota 2" topics who have been here for over a year and have many giveaways completed. Requiring that the person have previous giveaways under their belt does not mean that the person has read even a single word of the rules or looked at the forum even once.

Its true, but at least there will be much much lower probability of that happening.
