I had a puzzle that, while not the match of chuckie001's was far longer and more detailed than this one is. Due to my own stupidity, I deleted the folder containing said puzzle and I don't remember enough to remake it. So here, have a twist on the standard puzzle giveaway, which is probably a lot better than my first puzzle anyway. The game is being given by ilzombie, I'm just providing the puzzle.

What you need to do for this puzzle is answer all ten questions. Pretty simple, right? However, there are only five letters needed and all of the answers are wrong. To find the correct letters, you have to do a bit of maths with the letters you've got. The first answer you use in your maths always defines capital or lower case. If it's capital, the real answer is capital and vice versa. The second answer you use is what points you to the right letter. This narrows it down to five letters, the letters of the giveaway link, which are in the order of the equations. This is simpler than it looks, I promise you.

You may find it easier to do the questions before even attempting to do the second part as clues to complete the maths may be found in the answers.

For those of you not in the know on how to deal with puzzle giveaways, you just answer my questions and you type in the letter or number of the answer into the correct X slot of the website address. Get all of the answers right and you get into the giveaway. The game is Riven, which is worth 6 points, and it ends on the 9th or 10th of March and begins in one day. Google should be all you need. Asking for assistance on Yahoo Answers is not allowed. If I find you doing so, you will find the giveaway re-rolled if you ever win. Good luck!

Note: This was a little rushed, but I'm almost certain there's no mistakes. If you are absolutely confident there is, message me on Steam and I'll discuss it with you in private.

The questions:

  1. Mark Hamill once played a role alongside another Ben, this one not a Jedi, but leader of a group of polecats? What was the game?

  2. How many DVDs does Riven come on?

  3. What was the inspiration for a famous game featuring mysterious simians surrounded by water, now a well-recieved film?

  4. What musical form do Atrus, Catherine and Gehn, Riven's three central characters, share?

  5. What mathmatical object has only one surface and reaching the beginning takes you to the end?

  6. A LucasArts adventure where you play a travel agent combines the Aztec afterlife with aspects of what genre?

  7. One of the Myst series was to ship with an MMO portion of the game. What was the subtitle of this game?

  8. You may have noticed that all of these games share a genre? What is it?

  9. Rounded to the nearest million, how many millions of copies did Riven sell in its first year?

  10. What is the surname of the man who was fined twice for founding a company known for brütal game design after leaving LucasArts?

The equations:

1+3
4-5
6-10
8*7
9/2

Example:

Say the answer you get for question 1 is C and the answer you got for question 3 is e. The equation is 1+3, so assign each letter a number, do the math, convert back into a letter and find out what the true answer is. It should be obvious what numbers letters are assigned, but this will be updated in a couple of days with the obvious answer. As question 1 (the first one listed in the equation) had a capital letter as an answer, the true answer is also a capital letter.

Edit: Decided that enough people were solving it that the key wasn't needed.

The giveaway was here.

I am fully aware this looks awful. I got turned around so many times while building the thing. However, I promise it is far simpler than it looks.

Got to the part "you have to do a bit of maths" and already gave up.

I was about to attempt this, but then I realized that I just bought some indie bundles and I am content with what I have at the moment.

Well, the first thing, as always, would be to answer the questions. Go to that and it should fall into place a little.

The explanation on how to figure out the letters is worded strangely; I can't quite make sense of it. I'm not sure if that's on purpose or not. =P

Solved all the questions, stumbled at maths. Won't continue, but thanks anyway, it was nice.

I don't quite get how to do the calculations. Can you make an example please?
Let's assume I got "a", "B", "C" and "d" as answers of the first four questions. Does "The first answer you use in your maths" mean that I need to use "a" for first and "C" for second letter capitalization (and "b" and "D" for the letter themselves correspondingly)?
Then if I got two equations "2*2" and "1+1" does "which are in the order of the equations" mean that I should use the second "pair of answers" before the first one as 4 > 1?
My understanding is probably off for more than a mile as I don't understand what to do with numbers in the answers.

Thanks, now it's clear.
Edit: Almost. The equations assume it's "mod 26", right?

Yes, and one question and the answer for that is a clue on what to do when that happens.

The 5 symbols are given by the 5 equations above.

Two of them are numbers (should be very obvious which ones though).

And that would make the final answer (for the URL) have a number?
or do we change the number into a word (like instead of 3, it would be three)
