Silent mouse? does yours scream?
Anyways i have a Genius Ergo R5000, wireless, its reciever is also a battery charger, so its pretty damn handy :D

Bought it for WoW. I don't play anymore, but I still use it, because it's the most comfortable mouse I've ever owned. Fits like a glove.
Edit: and I turned the blue lights off, FYI. :P
Edit: also, mine is definitely not silent.

same as, though mine is not what i would call comfortable. it feels, i don't know. weird? not bad though :) just different

I use the same as the guy above, except mine's a Razer Naga Epic. it's mostly for mmos with the 18 or so buttons, but it's comfortable and hasn't let me down in any game yet. Not sure how silent it is though.

I have an A4-tech X-750F laser mouse (Almost 5 years rocking, and still flawless). I wish I could buy the same mouse again

i have a4tech x-755FS (X7) too.. =)
its cheaper than other gaming mouses.. maybe it's not reach logitech or razer product but enough for me i think.. this is my second x7.. and i bought it 2 years ago.. its not louder than normal mouses, maybe some of razer more silent than it but too expensive..
finally its the best weapon in my armory xD

Yeah, I have a X-730 that I've had for a few years. They are really nice, even though they basically rip off their designs from every other manufacturer out there.
The end result is what matters though and it's good, not to mention a lot cheaper than other brands.
As for sound it makes... it uses the same type of micro-switches you'd find in any Razer product. So fairly "loud".

I have an old Microsoft mouse I got from a thrift store for 10 cents. Not silent.
And since I'm on a laptop, I have a touchpad. I barely use the actual buttons (just tap to click and drag to scroll/zoom), so... that's silent.
Wish I could give a real suggestion, but I'm terribly cheap when it comes to buying mice. >.>

my laptop's touchpad... >.< buttons aren't silent though, but i rarely use it. i just tap the pad, etc. all those fancy movements lol
however, it's an alienware m11x, which has this kind of honeycomb texture. i'm so used to it that i really can't stand other laptop touchpads. i HATE smooth touchpads now xD
honestly, i prefer touchpads over mice any day.

My laptop has me spoiled now too. lol I have a Vaio F series. Those have little bumps on the touchpads. So comfy compared to my last laptop's smooth touchpad!
And yeah, I prefer using my touchpad whenever possible, but gaming on it's terrible most of the time (exceptions being games that rely mainly on the keyboard and stuff like Audiosurf where precise movement and fast clicking isn't a high priority).

Silent mouse? Never heard of any along those lines. I use an MX-518, though it's outdated to the g400 (same thing, same price, just higher dpi).

Logitech MediaPlay. Clicks when it clicks.
Only thing I can think of at the moment that would be silent would be an Apple mouse since the buttons are just finger sensors. No idea how it would be to game with one of those though.
[edit]
From Wikipedia, on the Mighty Mouse...
"The scroll ball emits a sound when it is being rolled, but this sound is not a product of the actual hardware. The sound is actually played back from a tiny speaker within the mouse itself. There is no way to disable this feature other than physically disabling the speaker inside the mouse."
...lol

Logitech G500. Got it when it was on sale a couple years ago, and I've been in love with it. Doesn't have a rediculous number of side buttons like the "professional" gaming mice, but I'd never use those myself anyway. Not sure I'd say it's silent, but I really don't know what standard we're comparing against here. Compared to a jackhammer, this thing is dead silent. Compared to a butterfly it's loud as hell. so... yea. Also the braided cable is freaking awesome.

For normal gaming: cheapo Dell/Logitech mouse with laser, wired. The wireless version has a weird lag to it. Alternatively, I use an older wired PS/2 ball mouse; no lag with that, and it works fine. Just missing a scroll wheel, so not as convenient for playing Terraria.
For portability or quietness: laptop touchpad.

Logitech G5 I'm using. I've never heard anyone ask for a silent mouse lol

I use Razer tron mouse. Not for everyone.. It's more for the "claw grip" gamers/persons. (which, I've read someone say that the claw grip is not a choice. completely wrong. no matter what mouse I use I have a claw grip..) I like it, and all the buttons side buttons. Not as much as the naga, but perfect for me. It is small, and very light. I really love the the program for it, it's really simple and straight forward. :)
It is not silent. It has a start up noise, which you can't disable :( and it has lighting which you can disable.

My mouse is a ninja. You don't even notice it's there.
Apart from that, it's an old (5+ years!) and extremely reliable MX518 (with Hyperglide mouse skates). At home I still have two MX510, heh.
At some point I want to upgrade though. Been thinking of getting myself a Razer Imperator (the refresh one). Or a Roccat Kone [+], seems equally good. The only issue I have with upgrading is that I will most likely miss the ergonomy and durability of the Logitech mice I've been accustomed to for the past 8 years. Yes, I could then go for the G400, but firstly I've tried it already - it's got less grip and the mouse wheel doesn't have clear, defined scrolling steps/clicks - and secondly I think I'm kind of at this stage where I want to try something new. Go figure.
Edit: I just checked amazon. How the hell is the G400 £22 cheaper than the MX518? It boggles the mind. The production of the latter must've stopped or something.

Logitech G9, rugged case w/o weights and the profile set to blue. It gets the clicks done.
