honestly i played dota for a long time, then i try out HoN and LoL, neither can reach dota's shoulder. When i try out Dota2 i was surprised how good the essence of the game was kept intact and enhanced in a good way. Dota2 is the best of all, hands down.

Well if you want an Rts too but man last time i played online it added up to be a god damm 2 hour game .

I played both a lot and I prefer Dota 2 a lot more. Dota is just more balanced and there are so much tactics and things that you can do that it is incredible, but the game is a lot harder than LoL and takes a lot more time to learn and much much more. That is pretty much the only downside of the game.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah and its seems that
s why peole like lol so much but that has costed lol challange and tactics that you can do.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't mind DOTA 2 being harder but last time I tried playing it, it didn't teach you the game at all. Just threw you in and expected you to learn on the fly. Which wouldn't be as bad if the MOBA communities didn't try to castraight you for messing up.

Now as i said its still a beta game (god i don
t like the fact everyone forgets that)and if you check a bit they have some presets made for a tutorial and play with guide buttons (not useable yet).
That will be finished when the game comes out but for now the best way to learn is with friends or the hard way :/
I learned with friends that already got to play so it was not bad for me.

Like lol people are nice :D
And tuturials will be added in dota don`t you worry
Comment has been collapsed.
Its hard to teach noobs while playing. Have you tried chatting just to tell everything to your teammate. Also most noobs are arrogant, teach them what's right and they will just shrug off your suggestions.
anyways Dota 2 will have a mentoring system so it will be more noob friendly when it goes out.

Yeah also the problem of lol.Dota 2 has those times aswell but that`s why we have dota 2 test version where the updates are put first. And dota 1 is still updated by ice frog so yeah ":D

LoL has the PBE, which is a test version where updates are also tested first.

Well not fully pay2win but runes do add some power and most of lol new heros(champs) are just other version of already made hero(champ) jsut better and most of the time op.And you pay for champs and skins.Unless you pay money or PLAY HELL LOADS OF GAMES you won`t get alot of champs.Skins are all for money.
Comment has been collapsed.
wow, LoL is nothing pay to win, if you save your Influence Point, on launch day you could get the "New" champion. Runes cannot be bought with "Real money". Basically the only thing you are forced to pay are the "skins", but is totally optional, all the gameplay experience is free.

I play both, dota is way more complex. Good thing with lol is that you can surrender if you get a crappy team :).
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed altho i don`t know if they should add it as i have pulled games that had like all rax down and such.
Dota 2 is a game of comebacks and well if someone leaves it becomes save to leave but still :/

I find dota 2 just a lot harder than lol, and sometimes you play with people that never played a moba before, they dont start with bots, so you gotta be 40 min in a match...well at least that happened to me a lot, or just with bad players. Also dota requires a lot more of focus from me :P so i just play lol for the lulz.
Comment has been collapsed.
well yeah that will happen your first 50 games and after that same as lol has polish people we have russians that just fail at the game. Now it does take your focus cuz shti is happening its like if you don
t pay attetion you will get killed in first 2 mins. But yeah dota 2 is a bit harder.

I agree and i hope dota2 reaches the sky when it comes out :D

i wont say super realistic but yeah it
s way more good looking.

Sadly LoL because of better balance (in dota there is none), better GUI(in dota its friknig too big and you can not change it), works faster, no retarded pause option (pisses me off when some retarded kids from other team turn on pause one after another).
Comment has been collapsed.
More balance wont say yuor totaly wrong but really :D .Lol has op champs do
nt you lie and new champs are almost always stronger then the rest of em.GUI might be your personal problem as for i think lol GUi is damm awful. And pause is a good option it`s just your inpatients that gets you sometimes and i might be gulty of it aswell sometimes.

LOL is more balanced than dota? What games are you playing?!
Comment has been collapsed.
Before reading, most of what I'm saying about dota2 applies to dota1.
Firstly, there are some main differences, in lol you have runes for some extra earlygame stats, in dota2, you got nothing than the 603 or so gold in a 5 man team, and you've got to figure out how you use that for maximum effectiveness in the start of the laning phase. There are also NO skill trees or the such.
Secondly, if you want to get an item in lol you need to go back, and waaaalk all across the map back your lane(unless you've got the teleport ability, or how was it called). In dota2 you can have the courier get it for you, if it was bought and used by someone (click on donkey icon in inventory). But if you don't have a courier, you have to either get a teleport scroll (135 gold) from a sideshop and teleport back to base, and then run to tower after healing, or go back to base, buy scroll from there and return to lane using scroll.
I barely scratched the surface here... lets go on!
Now, lets dip in the lane, in lol you can either lasthit, or try to harass, or move out of lane at around lvl 6 or earlier, when the hero is most effective to gank, and that's about it, push towers.
In dota2 there are also some mechanics that newer players don't grasp from the first games. Firstly, you can DENY creeps. Denying means attacking your own creeps when they're under 50% health, and it's best to lasthit them. Successful denies yield less exp for the enemies and NO gold. I should try and explain some of the next stuff before I dip into pulling.
The jungle is similar for both sides of the map, but the spots are in different places if it were for a mirror image (lol is just a mirror image, excepting dragon/nashor). And the camps will spawn a random set of creeps at every :00 mark starting from minute 1, if there are no monsters in the camp. That means you can attack the camp (:52~) and run away from the camp, and at :00 new minute, you have 2 sets of creeps, that's called stacking. You can repeat that how many times you want. Also, do note that jungle is not as effective as in lol, it's an option, but not that awesome as the nice amount of gold that you get in lane. After stacking camps you can pull some of the camps to intercept YOUR creeps that come in the lane. Only the safe lanes can do this...goddamnit now I have to explain safe lanes too, **** me. Keep safe lanes in mind; that will cause your creeps to be denied if the camp is stacked, thus enemies will get less exp, and the point of conflict of where the creeps duke it out will be nearer to your tower, which is a good thing; if it's not in its attack range.
Now, safe lanes. Each team has a mid lane, a suicide lane, and a safe lane, and the complementary jungle. Mid is where the character that gets the most advantage at lvl 6 or so sits, thus the ganker usually. The safe lane usually has the first point of conflict near YOUR tower, while the suicide lane has the first point of conflict near THEIR tower, thus safelane is usually the carry that needs the farm to, well, carry. Safelanes can also be helped via the pulling technique; note that it's the support's job. Suicide lanes is oftentimes a very potent combo that can survive any ganks or attempts from the enemy lane to kill them, or a solo laner with an escape mech, survivability or something that can give him farm at a distance.
To note; something I forgot, both sidelanes have a sideshop, which has a selection of items that can be useful, and it's nearer the tower of the enemy safelane tower than yours.
And another thing, in lol you only have one shop, in dota2 you have the main shop, the sideshops, and the secret shop(which is somewhere in between the suicide lane and the mid lane on both sides of the map). Sideshop has some items that appear in the main shop, while offering some other items that can be gotten from the secret shop. The secret shop has NO items from the main shop, but offers expensive items that can be made in very powerful gear...
The gear is the same as in lol, 6 item slots, use them how you like. Unless your name is Syllabear, then you have 12, your bear has 6 slots too.
And the main shop is the only place which sells recipes; recipes are items needed to make even more gear; each recipe is different for every item which requires a recipe.
I think I scratched enough off the surface here, time for the stats.
Lol has different stats for everything, one magic armor, one armor, one attack speed, one damage, one ability power, mana, health, etc. Dota2 is a bit more simpler, Strength, Intelligence, Agility, movement speed, armor, magic armor. These are the basic stats, if it were for me to dig into the damn lifesteal/crit things I'd be sitting here all freaking day. So, each hero has a main stat, if you get 1 point in your mainstat, you also get 1 damage; so if you're a Str hero and get 1 str, you get 1 dmg and the bonus from str, but if you get agility you only get the bonus from agility. Str gives you health and health regen, agility gives you attack speed and armor every so often, intelligence gives you mana and mana regen. That's for scratching the surface here.
Now, abilities, in lol, abilities scale off your ability power, while in dota2 they're fixed amounts, thus lol has better lategame scaling for mage type characters. There are a handful of abilities that can scale in dota2 based off some stats, but they're just a handful. Same goes to attack damage scaling on skills.
I only scratched the surface, but I suppose you get the point.
In conclusion; lol is a dumbed-down version of dota, it might have its differences, but it's still a bit too simple for some. And for incoming messages, yes, I didn't mention about there being no dragon in dota, that runes spawn in the space separating the two sides thus they don't have creeps with special auras that transfer to you after they die, that there are ancient camps that give a lot of gold and are harder to kill than normal camps, but spare me, this was already boring to write.
Lol might help ya learning curve, but it will teach you VERY bad habits for dota.

Man props to you for writing this. i wanted to do somethign simillar but man takes so much time XD .
i agree on everything you wrote ,very surface tounch on both.

some corrections/additions b4 other people bash this
denying is lower than 50%, I think its 33%
you can deny teammate heroes when the teammate has a debuff (poison, doom ultimate)
stacking/pulling is not limited to 52sec, there are 03/33sec, 21/51 sec, 27/57 sec 28/58 sec spots
choke points in jungling
you can also pull in all 3 lanes, not limited to safe lane

Congrats on doing all this writing.
Here is the tl;dr version:
Both games are fun, just that only one is made by Valve.

I prefer LoL by far. I just find the game far more interesting, both to play and watch.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well i did say before the difference between the 3 games.. dota2,hon,lol... dota was good for the first time which i mean dota1 and then HoN came with the better stuff and all that... and LoL is different from HOn and Dota btw.. but i do prefer LoL than dota... and now dota2.. pfft.. all that they care about is the graphic which they are over doing it till it became so sick.. even the items they are doing it in 3D look.. and they look so ugly.. and the game still so slow and gloomy.. dark heroes and dark map.. and yea the OVER effects... once the fight start .. effects will take over the area.. i did check the difference between the heroes from HON and DOTA.. i found that HON is way much better and smooth in all the ways..
And yet this is my opinion~
Comment has been collapsed.
indeed it is and you should expect me to disagree :) well i won`t say too much of your problems but darkness of the heros waaa? Slow and gloomy man you have gotten the worst players you can get .And in what way hon heros are better then dota 2 ? Kidna need to be a bit more specific.
Comment has been collapsed.
Simply HoN took some of Dota's heroes and made them better.. if you didnt play both and tried to check the difference then i cant explain it to you.. or just simply go pick Wretched Hag at HoN.. and Scream Of Pain at dota2.. and try them both by yourself.. and same goes for some others
Comment has been collapsed.
Would have to say Dota 2, Dota, and Hon instead of LoL because you literally have to buy each champion and runes in order to play.
So after a while it becomes play to play more to grind vs play for fun for LoL. Though some people continue playing it for fun and do not consider it grinding for xp/ip for champions and runes. Though a likely 200 hour requirement is quite high just to start playing ranked. With the other games above you have literally every single character to pick from and you can jump right into games that you want.

I've been playing Dota since 6.27, and, while I was never a huge fan of Dota (and its players), I played it only because most netcafes had WarCraft 3 and Counter Strike to play with, so thats what me and my friends stuck to.
I have to say, I found Dota 1 absolutely fidely. The WarCraft 3 engine and interface made it really hard for me to micromanage properly, although I did play fairly well back then anyways. Dota 2 is a vast, vast improvement in that sense.
But this isn't about Dota 2's improvements, isn't it? It's about LoL and Dota 2. And in my opinion, Dota 2 thrashes LoL. Graphically, it is superior. And the gameplay is far better in my opinion. I played LoL for a good 5 hours with friends in the same room one afternoon, and I have to say, the only thing that made it enjoyable was the fact that I was playing with friends.
While I do not wish to generalize, I've had discussions with a friend before. This is what she said on a forum, verbatim:
As a former Dota player, I can't say I completely agree but Dota does have good points in it. The same goes for LoL, and as people have said, if you want to complain, well that's your problem because this is ''League of Legends'', NOT Dota. Yes they have the same gameplay style, but that's all Dota has, LoL has dominion, summoners rift, hell, even proving grounds can be counted.
However, in my opinion of course, Dota 2 just doesn't feel and look like Dota 1. It lost the feel and interest for me. We know Icefrog went with Valve and now the heroes and map doesn't even feel like it had the Warcraft vibe. Basically, Valve just took all the heroes side-names from Warcraft 3 such as Brewmaster, Juggernaut, Pit Lord, Far Seer, and called it there own. Not much creativity there, they just screwed the lore and how the champs felt.
A little bit off-topic but at least Riot is actually great for being their own proud company and bringing their own creativity unlike Valve who simply took Warcraft 3 classes, called it there own, reskinned each hero (of course), and called it a day.
DotA 1 and LoL for life.
While she has a point... I think... Its just a very poor basis to consider Dota 2 inferior to LoL. Especially the whole "reskinned heroes" thing and that Blizzard should've made Dota 2... Yeah...
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed on that ,and we know valve hires community mod makers and such and really they didint call it there own, when they fought over rights to call it dota 2 with blizzard they said it
s communitys game not blizzards or valves. And on the points that the map is bad or something that she has not played the game :D.
Riot is being creativ yeah sure most lol champs are like heros from dota 1 ,and dota 2 is just the next gen dota 1.
lol has More game modes cuz lol has been around for 3 years? Dota 2 is still in beta and still has a way to go.
Comment has been collapsed.
Valve is not responsible of the new names they gave to the heroes. Complain with Blizzard and their Copyrights that didn't allow Valve to keep te original name such as Thrall. Maybe the luck of creativity came from Icefrog. By the way I do have to say that Centaur new name goes completely well with his new ultimate. I don't think there is much to be said about the names and the new skins. It was obvious that there was no chance to keep the game the same but icefrog wanted the game too look as similar as possible. So it's icefrog fault to re make dota with a new engine and keeping it classic just because it is his mother fucking game? You cannot blame him for that...
Comment has been collapsed.
I enjoy neither, but I have to say LoL is better. Simply because it does not feature denying, a mechanic that I refuse to take seriously. The reason I still don't enjoy it is that it does feature last hitting, another mechanic I refuse to take seriously.
LoL is also made better by the new mode (don't remember the name), the one that doesn't focus on laning.
Comment has been collapsed.
lol that is you argument well kinda lame im soory but it`s yours.
Denying is something optional that you can do to limit you foe.last hitting is in both games and also a tacting you dont have to use it
s just the needed one.
Better cuz the new mode well the game needed something new cuz it IS 3 YEARS OLD.dota 2 is still in beta and im asking from them point that they both have cuz im sure dota 2 will have other game modes.
Comment has been collapsed.
Neither last hitting nor denying are optional. They're core gameplay components. Ones that add a completely unnecessary layer of micromanagement. Since LoL has just one of these components, and thus less unnecessary micromanagement, it is better.
Your argument about age is invalid. The original Dota is way older than LoL and it doesn't need to add new modes. Neither does CS or any such "classic" game. And I've heard of no plans to make a different mode for Dota 2.
The thing is, LoL's developers set out to change Dota for the better. Whereas Valve is recreating Dota, staying true to the original. Since I never enjoyed the original all that much, LoL's different game mode is a step in the right direction for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Really you havent heard abotu other game modes in dota ok. unnecessary micro really ? denying is unnessery ? last hitting is unnecessary? It
s giving the option to limit opponets farm.Last hittin happens in moba like games but dont say less is better and making change in dota so far all chage i have seen is make a enw gamemode mash up i don
t mind that and some fucked up champs.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't quite understand the second half of your comment. And parts of the first.
As for micro, I'm giving you my opinion on it. Which is what you asked for. And in my opinion, last hitting and denying are types of micromanagement that make the game less fun. Back when I played Warcraft III, there were 2 custom maps with Dota-like concepts that I particularly enjoyed - Tank Wars and Battleships. Both of them did not feature denying and both made last hitting a low priority by periodically sharing between the players all the gold that had been earned through kills by the faction (AI) units. This design made both maps way more fun than Dota.
Going back to Dota and LoL, I find myself baffled by how many people are fine with the menial chore that is last hitting. There's no way the rest of the game can be made good enough to overcome such a repetitive, utterly boring mechanic.

in a way everything there is a skill shot and it makes it diffrent but no need to say its better as its not made in the same way.Besides the map and idea

If you wanna start getting into the whole MOBA thing you should probably play LoL first because it has easier mechanics and is way slower than DotA2. When you got better and feel like youre ready for a vastly higher challenge you can start playing DotA2, but be warned, the learning curve in DotA2 is way harder than in LoL!

Anyway just wanna know sg communities thoughts on dota 2 vs lol besides the dota 2 giveaway spam.
Now i know this might start a fanboy war or some shit, but you need a valid reason why you think one is better then the other.
Now i really like dota 2 (altho its still in beta),some reasons why i like it are it
s challenging, fast, allows you to play any role or hero (champion in lol words),items have more purpose,no runes (lol way to add a bit more power to champs in your own way),customization is free, and of course the look of the game and animations ,and voice acting is great, i love it. I played Lol but didin
t get into it too much. The game limits champions that you can pick (heros in dota words) every week it would change the champs you can pick. The only way not to be limited by it is buying them for ALOT of in-game currency or real money.Second you have no way to make your champ look diffrent besides paying real money for skins that are premade and no specific part of the champ can be edited (like items in dota).Lol takes alot more time to actuly start ganking, animations meh and spell feel also meh.And the fact that not all champs have mana. Some champs have mana some energy and others rage. Not it`s cool if not for the fact that mana comes back slow but energy champs get it back very fast and can spam alot more (example Kennen enregy ,kayle mana)maybe something changed in some months dunno.I
m not saying you have to love dota or Lol i
m just asking your thoughts on them 2.And argument: lol is better cuz more people play it. Is invalid as lol has been around a lot more then dota 2 and dota 2 is still in beta.
Also soory for my bad english,i will try to fix grammer mistakes a bit later.
EXPLAIN WHY ONE IS BETTER THEN OTHER (Answer LOL IS BETTER HAHAH won
t do or dota 2 better won
t do )you have to say why. Also don`t make stupid points like denying really -_- games has one more option and you think its bad ...Comment has been collapsed.
