Especially if their profile is set to private ( Which is always suspicious if they're trading ) and their steam lvl is 0.

No mate, report him to the community moderator, that way the links will be banned from chat.
Send him fake URLs http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197960794555/
He will block them. :)

I reported him on steamrep too, But I thought it would be good to show you all to make sure you know what to avoid.

the ones that don't get it to not add lvl 0-5 randoms and clicking on their links just deserves to get viruses or get hacked... human idiocy can't be helped -.-"

I consider it rude to keep people waiting if I add them, so I normally type in Hello as soon as I see that they accepted.

same here, but well, above lvl 30 + "9 years of service" you shouldn't bet mistakenly blocked for being a bot, so it doesn't bother me at all

This is quite new for steam (at least for me)
But i can say that is totally nothing new in internet\scam
And that's why i hate when windows hide .extension :C

Awww, am I the only one who the got a broken bot? When the private lvl 0 profile that was created a week ago added me I was almost overjoyed with glee that someone finally tried to scam me but then all it did was stay silent! Eventually I ran out of patience and just removed it. Not Fair! >:(

Yes me too 3 times this week, with the pseudo Unknown Level 0 and the private profile and it changed each time avatar putting beautiful girls, just to lure me, lol, but it's not work with me.

It isn't really "Calling Out" when it is a bot.
Unless you are worried that the bot is going to develop emotions and get upset?

Sometimes, the "scammer" can be impersonating someone else's profile, or hijacking it.
That's why you should be careful when pointing fingers and not break the rules. This could hurt someone's reputation.

if that happens, it's just a proof that that guy was to dumb for the internet anyways, so who cares about idiots reputation? O_o

Its not about the purpose behind the rules, its about following them.

all that happens is that they create a new one within minutes(if they don't have some on reserve anyways) and then just update the bots chat-parameter^^

Actually, As a web developer myself, I know how easy it is to create a urlrewrite.
This website uses them too.
The url http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/VZVRL/warning-new-type-of-scam-bot would normally look something like
http://www.steamgifts.com/forum.php?id=VZVRL&topic=warning-new-type-of-scam-bot without urlrewrites

Something surprising about that?
Sorry for the slow reply, Haven't checked steamgifts in quite a while.

I'm glad I never click on links in Steam chat. It saves me a lot of headache.

I think there are so many types of bots in Steam we could do a Pokédex.

Run an anti-virus scan to make sure it didn't install a keylogger, I assume that's the purpose of the exe as it allows the hacker to retrieve passwords.

i know , i traded it and got banned few weeks ago.

There is a bunch of new scam bots going around by some Russian douchebag or something, The bot adds you as a friend (like all the others do) and then says something along the lines of:
Hi bro, I've seen you traded on steam market, you don't wanna trade on this thing?
somebullshitlink.com/shit.jpg
Example:
http://s25.postimg.org/jfrq8yfn3/screenshot_82.png
The link they send is NOT an image, It is an exe file that has had an .htaccess urlrewrite to make the extension .jpg
After visiting the homepage of the "website", I saw this:
http://s25.postimg.org/4h9bej0kv/screenshot_80.png
If you get any messages like this from random people who add you, Block and report them. Don't try to trade with them.
