Quick question, should we have private and group giveaways viewable on profiles, simply without the links to open them? Right now it seems the site offers a way for abusers to hide a little too easily, and a number of giveaway creators have questions about their winners since they're allowed to see so few details.

Regarding begging, we'll be able to act on users fairly quick with the new user reporting system, so I don't think we'll need to worry about people messaging those with private giveaways.

And for puzzles, you'll be able to confirm a user does in fact have a private giveaway setup, and you'll know the game, so you don't need to worry about solving the puzzle to find a game already in your library.

Thoughts?

This would be perfect, apart from if someone wanted to hide what game they were actually giving away in a private giveaway, but all in all, the benefits outweigh that problem.

+1 I want people to be angry for solving the puzzle just for a dlc that they don't have the game for

Damn straight, I want to make a puzzle giveaway where all the questions are about Dead Space, and then they enter it? SOTMC up in this.

Make the puzzle, invite the solvers to a group made for that purpose, and create a SotMC giveaway for that group later. Problem solved.

Right, so I would need to have some sort of system where I now have to check each entry manually, then make a new group, invite everyone to the new group, make a giveaway for the group...not to mention that to actually check that, i'd probably have to add each person who wants to enter on steam, so that they can add me....All in all, fuck that effort.

Now don't get me wrong, The problems that this will prevent are definitely good, but I'm not sure if I want people to know what game i'm giving away in a private giveaway or a puzzle...It's half the fun. Making it so that it only goes on your profile once it finishes, would be better IMHO.

+1 to that. Doesn't spoil puzzle giveaways but you can see if someone abuses the system.

If feasible this would be my favourite solution as well. This way puzzle giveaways could still be a surprise.
If this is not possible showing them from the beginning would still be better than the current situation.

Not divulging the game in a puzzle giveaway ahead of time is called being a douche.

While I have a completely different opinion about this, I can somewhat understand your stance on the matter but calling me and a lot of other puzzle makers douches over this is quite a douche move in itself.
If you don't enjoy puzzle-solving on its own and want to absolutely avoid solving puzzles for giveaways you don't want to enter than just stay away from puzzles with unknown prizes - problem solved.
And if you disagree on this and want to discuss changes to the current system, fine. No problem with that and if cg sees it the same way and makes all giveaways visible, so be it. But seriously, is it really necessary to insult people who put much effort and money into making their puzzles because of this shit?

I'd like a mix between those two :P Show completed giveaways (game, entries, comments) on the profile page, and show running private/group giveaways as "has X private/group giveaways", without revealing either the game nor the entries nor when it ends.

Running private giveaways /you entered/, or running group giveaways, should always show on the creator's profile.

Agreed on every point. Especially that hiding the prize of a puzzle giveaway is kind of douchy.

I guess cg is alone now, because i created 2 tickets, reported more than 10 people (several reasons), reported 1 fake giveaway i won and still no ban and nothing.

I think SteamGifts need more moderation and i support this idea.

Two months ago I sent a list of about 100 profiles with not activated won games on their accounts. I can't see if they marked them as received or not but I guess at least half of them is guilty.

Yes. IIRC the thing was hidden in the first place to avoid submitters to get random add's. Now it really doesn't make any sense.
