Seems like a new trend for key selling sites and stores in the internet. Some months ago they started to sell russian keys...

Big advantage, sometimes the retail versions are like 50% off already on release day.

Big disadvantage, you require in 99% of all cases an russian IP..

Now the part with the VPN activation shows up:

My point is, I want to buy Dead Island, Rage and Blades of Time, which are just waaaaaaaay cheaper if you take the russian versions(which have english language aswell, once activated).

Did you guys make any experience with VPN activations, which are SOOO easy, as every single KEYseller in the freaking net tells you?

Would really look forward to hear some meanings about this.

Best regards

VPN activations can and probably will get you banned from Steam. Please don't do them.

Banned? Never heard about this, trololo. I know that its forbidden to shop in the US store with an EU IP.

Didnt expect that :(

You can get banned for attempting to bypass regional restrictions. Buying from another countries Steam storefront would be considered bypassing regional restrictions as would activating a key via VPN.

If you dont want any trouble, dont go with Russian Steam keys with VPN activation (look for region-free ones only, they exist for some games). I wouldnt advise using any VPN whatsoever too, unless in a smart way which wouldnt show suspicious activity - like a US IP now, Russian IP 2 minutes later and US IP again in 10 minutes. Doesnt necessarily mean a trouble, but believe me, you dont want to call for trouble, especially if you value your Steam account and wouldnt want to discuss your ownership and suspicious activity with Steam support for weeks to come.

Also, Rage was $10 I believe few days ago on GameFly if I remember it correct. Dead Island could be found quite cheap too. Blades of Time costs 600 rub or about $20 on Russian Steam store - I would advise you to find a Russian guy to trade the game with for games which are not accessible from Russia. 100% legit, nothing to worry about.

I dont feel like checking current Steam keys prices atm, but I dont believe that you would pay much less if you went for them. Consider these options for the time being if you ask me, and stay off VPN as long as you can. Could be my over-awareness, but personally I dont think it is worth the risk. Just my opinion.

Can't get banned from Steam for activating a key bought elsewhere thru a VPN , can get banned for using VPN to browse the steam store with a foreign IP and purchase games at cheaper prices directly from the store. Majority of my friends bought mw3 for $20, the russian key, and activated and played countless hours with no problems. I bet that pissed my bro off who bought the game for me for $60 lol..I've looked into this though and apparently not all games are the same, MW3 is a one time activation and works in all regions/languages once activated on Steam thru the VPN. Skyrim however, needs to use the VPN every single time you want to play, which blows. Even so, the whole thing is just a bit sketchy, I wouldn't advise it.

Doing all that just reinforces their reasons for doing all this region-locking, and will give them further incentive to make the process worse for everyone in the future.

If they would stop price gouging (which I consider this to be) with digital downloads it wouldn't be a problem. Myself however, do not trust these key sites.

I hate regional restrictions... Dead Space 2 is still $60 here and most Capcom games like Street Fighter X Tekken isn't even available here. I don't really see the point behind all this... I just don't.

Asking about or offering methods for bypassing regional restrictions is not allowed here. While I realize that's not what you're doing, this topic is skirting pretty close. You may want to close it before it gets out of hand.

Make a trustworthy friend in Ukraine who will buy you the the expensive games you want in a RoW version (rest of the world) for a small fee. That's how I got MW3 for $20 + $2 fee via paypal. No vpn's, no problems.
