The game would be fun (If I had time and could be bothered for playing it xD) The only problem with it (For me) is that blocks dont fall when they should (If there is a gap below them) but do if you complete a connection of 4
And thanks for the giveaways

Ah, thanks for the one on the blocks not falling. I forgot to add a bit of text to this topic:
You play TetraGems with A, W, D & SPACE keys, (X-BOX) gamepad or the 4 red triangles on the screen (a feature for Android & iOS). The aim of the game is to line up 4 gems (or more) of the same color to collect them. The collected gems will be removed from the grid and you will get points for them. The more gems you collect at once, the more points you will get!
Those things kinda happen when the game is clear for me as developer while it's not directly clear for others who think to get a full Tetris game ;-)

Oh I see... so that's why there are floating gems right? Hmm... it's kinda hard to play game as it is now, cause to match gems you have to place bricks usually leaving open spaces between them...

Hmm wait… now I see some inconsistency in game.
The elements are falling as a bricks right? I mean tetris like solid objects. That's why if bricks collides they stay in weird pose… like hanging or something. Umm… do you understand what I'm trying to say?... probably no… ok let's try with explaining this using pictures:
… Am I making any sense? It's kinda hard to explain this using second language… well I will leave it for now. If you will understand good… If you won't I will try to explain it somehow.

Picture 1 is right, picture 2 not. The gems are linked together and will 'stick' with each other. I've used your picture 3 to show which gems are linked as block and will fall together (later on).
On your last remark. If you look at the original Tetris game, you see that those blocks are made of 4 smaller bricks, yet those will keep floating in the air as well ;)

Well original tetris looks more like that. And yeah they will keep floating in the air.
But as I said before you are not making another tetris game so you shouldn't copy everything from it. Getting 100+ is actually quite easy… but in fact it is equivalent of matching only 25 bricks… and If you ask me It is kinda lame score for tetris. Don't forget that you would be able to play only about 10-15 minutes before jamming game. That's not enough.
I really do think that you should consider option that when you match 4 gems all bricks which participated in matching should become "loose" and let the gems fall. IMHO it will be huge improvement.
Edit: Or maybe we are thinking about the same but my insufficient articulation skills are making it hard to understand.

There's no use in treating all gems with a space below them as floating and drop them down to the 1st available spot. That would kinda remove the Tetris part of this game and make it more like a regular gems game ;)
I will however let the game calculate all large groups of gems (as shown in my previous post) and let that whole group drop down until one of the lower gems hits an other one. That would lengthen the game a lot as well as make it more fun.
But that's exactly why I've dropped this alpha version of TetraGems for you (and all others) to play and see how you think about what features should be added, including how the floating gems should drop.
If you and all other players think that all gems should drop down if there's a space below them, I will make it as you ask. But that would make the game too easy (I think). It would also give me the option to add more colors early in the game to keep it challenging as well as some other (nasty :p) things I have in mind like big gems when you get 2x2 in the same color without collecting them in a line of 4+ :D

"That would kinda remove the Tetris part of this game and make it more like a regular gems game ;)"
But wasn't your aim to make Tetragem a game which mix both Tetris and Gems games? As it is now, this game is just much harder Tetris. But don't get me wrong I don't say "forget about tetris", ya? I'm telling you to mix both genre.
All objects should start as a normal tetris bricks. The transformation from bricks to separate gems can be done only on one condition "when matching 4 gems from bricks". I mean take a look at this in this condition only 3 marked bricks should turn to separate gems, meaning that when those 4 green gems will vanish only 8 (from the same bricks) will turn to separate gems leaving to free spaces when they fall. Do you understand?
I mean all bricks that didn't participate in matching will stay as Tetris bricks. Those bricks( marked with red colour) on the left side will stay as bricks, as long as they not participate in matching gems.

That's a good option as well that you just proposed there. I could draw the Tetris blocks more clear across the borders, making it look like they are in glass cases. And when you break them, the glass case is destroyed, you have collected the gems and those left can drop freely!
No X-Mas holidays for me and back to the drawing board ...uhm... GIMP ;-)

Giveaway over and I thank everyone for joining both here and playing the game.
For those interested in TetraGems, I'm busy updating the game to Phela's proposal, making it able that more gems will drop down, making the game a lot more enjoyable. When I have it ready, I will drop an other giveaway here and let you play something that's close to the final conceptual version. After that I'll add graphics, sound, levels and lots of other stuff that's not here now.
Merry Christmas (the last couple of hours left of it) and happy holidays!

The new version will be available tomorrow. I have managed to make the game as you proposed, but is was not easy. There are a few last things I still have to do, including fixing a bug that's been there since day 1 (and we all missed it ) as well as remove all forced pauses I added for debugging.
Now I'll take a well deserved break and play someone else's game ;-)

"When you make a combination of 4 or more gems, the glass tube will break and the gems are free to fall. So far the idea sounds very simple, but implementing it isn't that simple..."
(O.o) you have no idea how hard it was for me to explain what I had in my mind… and you manage to explain all of this in just one sentence… Ow boy… I kinda feel stupid now… Well it is good thing that you managed to implement this to game. Will test this tomorrow or… let's see…on thursday maybe. Dunno…

Hahaha... No worries. I'm the one who should feel kinda dumb not to come up with that awesome idea ;)
I've just put the new version (your version :p) online. There were a couple of nasty bugs I had to squash. Only one remains, but after 10 hours of programming and testing while hoping one last glitch happens, I'm too tired to squash that one. From the looks of it I know where it comes from but well... kinda too tired to start on squashing it.
You can find it on the same link (mentioned above) as before.

I'm sorry to inform you but there are probably more bugs to find and repair.
I'm kinda content with outcome of this change. Game isn't that hard now but I think that you can't call it easy either. Like in gems genre games you need to think several moves ahead. And sometimes it is better to risk one hanging block than go for easy scores. But the most pleasant thing is that when you are in pinch and somehow manage to match 4 gems, launching huge domino effect and ¼ of board is vanishing. Didn't play that much but my highest outcome is score 11298
As for bugs… well there are few that I noticed. Somehow I managed to force brick to go through other bricks. But I don't have any prove for that… I think that It was "I" brick
Another thing is somehow similar. I mean this. Check closely that "L" brick it looks like going through another brick right? But probably it is outcome of too fast turning block and moving it to one side.
Yet another is this that thing happens only on pause. If you resume game it will be fine… but leaving it like this is kinda weird. As for description what happened… do you see that green "s" brick on upper right? The "glass case" turned faster than gems (that were inside of this glass case".
Last thing… I dunno if it is done right or wrong… but take a look at this... I'm wondering… should the game stop at that moment or not. I mean IF game decided that matching bricks was process more important than ending game… all those bricks after matching would fall… and that means no game over.

Giveaway to celebrate the first Alpha test version of the TetraGems, the first game I'm making.
TetraGems is a mixture of Tetris and those Gems games (hence the name). Yesterday was the 6th anniversary of the TetraGems project and I'm very happy that I've come already this far and am able to present a working concept to you as a X-Mas present.
You can find the TetraGems Alpha version here. Please give it a go and let me know what you think of it. Without you as player I can't make the game the way we both enjoy it ;-)
You play TetraGems with A, W, D & SPACE keys, (X-BOX) gamepad or the 4 red triangles on the screen (a feature for Android & iOS). The aim of the game is to line up 4 gems (or more) of the same color to collect them. The collected gems will be removed from the grid and you will get points for them. The more gems you collect at once, the more points you will get!
I realize that as of this moment the graphics and mostly the gems (they're balls at this very moment) lack, but now that TetraGems is ready in a conceptual stage I will make a start to enhance the looks of TetraGems ;-)
Comments and feedback can be given through the blog topic associated with it.
Thanks in advance for playing and your comments and feedback! I will keep you updated on further progress through the above mentioned blog. When I'm in need of more testing early next year, I'll call upon you again through a couple of giveaways. And most importantly, when TetraGems is released and I can get it on Steam, I will drop 50 keys here as giveaway as well!
To the winners of this giveaway: I have the games in my Steam inventory already and I will add you as friend to give it to you.
