Disagree. It'll flood support with more stuff to do.
Posting it here lets the community discuss the idea, refine it, dismiss it, etc. If it is popular enough someone from support is bound to see it and can pass it along to the powers that be.

You wrongly assume anyone from support actually has the time to look at the forum. I only do because I've fucked off from Support today. I've had enough of my quota of morons this hour.

No offence, but who cares if support sees it? Discussing the idea on the forum's a good way of gauging how good or shite an idea is BEFORE it gets to support. Am I missing the point of the forum? You know, it is for discussing things...right? If it's popular enough then the OP can send it to support as well so that Support sees it.

Why don't you take your suggestion to Support, then? (jk)

No wait...thats not a suggestion, just a fact!

This suggestion thread brought to you by an angry bird. Maybe he could relieve stress by launching himself via slingshot.

Posting suggestions is also beneficial though. It allows the community as a whole to see potential ideas, present opinions, collaborate, and perhaps even offer improvements.
Okay though.

No, 99 % of them are generic posts that appear every day or totally stupid ideas

If you refer to idea posts that merely boost the odds of winning, then I will agree. There's plenty to improve here on this site though, so why not let the community have some opinion on the matter?

implying there are ideas worth talking about that haven't been discussed to death
Okay, whatever you say. ;)

There are always new ideas worth talking about. My ideas were pretty well-received. And they weren't discussed to death previously either. To my knowledge anyway.

That would highly depend on how support treats suggestions. The original post says "Take them to support, where someone who actually has the power to do anything about it will see it" but the subtext of the other messages sounds more like "your suggestions are boring or stupid, we'd rather ignore them in private than in public." If that's the case and suggestions will be ignored, then people might as well continue to post them here. If that's not the case, and contacting support with a suggestion can actually make a difference, and suggestions will always get a reasoned reply, then sending them to support it okay.

They always get a reasoned reply in Support, even the retarded ones. If it's a good idea, then woohoo, we've seen it and will consider it and add it when possible. If it's a bad idea, then you haven't seen it. That's probably the more important.

Wouldn't you rather deal only with good suggestions? Airing them on the forum would surely filter out the truly bad ideas because they'd get shouted down. E.g. nerfing point generation/private giveaways don't count toward contributor value.

Exactly. You see all the shit ones and they're community berserk buttons, which means we have to wade in, suspend half a dozen people and close the thread.

And when I say it, people get all mouthy at me like I'm trying to censor them or something.
Nope, but you're wasting your time telling other users who are as powerless as you to actually make changes to how SG works. A support ticket is a message directly to the people who CAN change things on the website. And if you somehow don't like what the mods say to your suggestion, well, maybe you can bring it to the forums with a respectful thread.
As opposed to Mr. "You Should Be Able To Regift Games Fuck You I Do What I Want" and his alt account that've been lolsuspended.

To be fair, most of your comments seem to be intentionally designed to stifle discussion in the most abrupt way possible.

As jade says just a couple comments above, "Exactly. You see all the shit ones and they're community berserk buttons, which means we have to wade in, suspend half a dozen people and close the thread."
I'm kind of a to-the-point guy when the potential for drama threadsplosion lurks. I've also been under more stress and pressure than I'd like, which doesn't excuse any rudeness or inappropriate behaviour on my part, but it also doesn't help me any.

¡CAUTION! I'm going to use the thread properly.

[SUGGESTION]
Using "support" as the sole channel for suggestions is a bad idea.
A separate "Suggestions" forum/sub-forum is a much better idea.
The forum would/could be community moderated in that all SteamGifters would be able to point new users to the sticky in the case of old ignored suggestions (nerfing points generation), or old, accepted but not implemented, suggestions.
CCed to support.

Take them to support, where someone who actually has the power to do anything about it will see it.
