in addition to having a minimum amount of giveaways, why not also have a MAXIMUM number of entries for a giveaway. it would create tension as if you dont see a giveaway in time you wont get to enter it, it would also make for humorous giveaways, like 5 people maximum entries and 4 copies of the game. it would also provide an incentive to check all the different pages of giveaways as someone might put up a AAA title with say 100 maximum entries but it lasts several weeks.

in short it would add a new dimension to giveaways, encourage people to check the site all the time, more clicks = more ads or something right?

thoughts?

Having a max number of entries isn't really fair for people living in different time zones. If you don't want that many people to enter, make the giveaway private or for only an hour or two.

Who is forcing them to sleep? They can waste time sleeping when their journey is over.
Its a great idea! Go write to SG.

Entering giveaways is a matter of choice. If you don't want to miss out, check all the time. In the above case be quick as well.

1 hour giveaways are not fair either. It's almost exactly the same situation: if you don't come here in time, you will miss it. If you are sleeping or hanging out with friends, you will miss it. I for one don't see anything against the above suggestion, but I guess it was discussed before and the staff didn't like the idea.

It is only your problem if you miss it. If missing them is such a problem for you, stock yourself with food and water and be on SG.com 24/7.
If a BUS arrives at 10am and leaves at 10.15am, it is not the drivers problem if you are sleeping. If you have a job meeting between 1pm and 2pm, it is not other attendees problem if you are boinking your secretary in the supply room. If you have an exam between 8am and 9.30am, its not your proffessor's problem if you are lost in a forrest because of a massive hangover.

Buses, job meetings and exams (and indeed, even secretaries) tend to have schedules, so you know when you are supposed to stop drinking. :-)

This has schedules too and you can obtain the schedule list by visiting your local psychic.

Who is forcing who?? We all have opinions, we are all putting them out. I don't see anyone saying agree with me or I'll enter every giveaway you do and I'll win it so you don't. ;)

Excuse me, but what's your point here? I didn't say it's a problem for me, just wanted to point out that 1 hour giveaways are not so different from entry-limited giveaways. And if you read my last sentence, you can see I have NOTHING against them. Thanks for the advices though.

And who exactly would benefit from this, if I may ask? (In contributor giveaways, it's the contributors. In group giveaways, it's the people who share a group with you. In private giveaways, it's your friends or puzzle solvers. So, who is it in this case? If you are suggesting this option, you surely have a clear idea of it.)

Ah, I see. I always thought these labels have rather negative connotations, something not exactly associated with "I want my game to go to primarily to this kind of users".

People that live in the same timezone.
Also people that visit this site more often.
Ideas like this would make this site more fun and thrilling in my opinion. Ofcourse winning something is great and gifting a game feels nice, but entering 1,000 giveaways, forgetting about them and just hoping that a green message will appear is rather boring

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah you should really. i think the advertising is PERFECT on this site, its generally for games that are going cheap on steam or greenman ect, which is bscly the lifeblood of this site, and you know its targeted without any kind of googlespiderevil, and people who use this site are actually likely to click on the products and buy it. this site and its ad's could be a in first year marketing degree case study.

If there should be a MAX option for anything it should be for wins. It's only thing that makes remotely sense.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If so there should be an option to sort by closest time limit. With the amount of giveaways going on it's virtually impossible to keep track otherwise...

Just saiyan.

they have this on playblink, some of their raffles are capped at so many entries. nice idea. but will it work with so many members?

All it would encourage is bots. There are already so many ways to limit entries in a giveaway. Puzzles, hidden links, contributor limits, group giveaways, etc. This comes up every few months and the discussion always goes the same way.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

who the fuck would make a bot for this site? points arent infinite, if there arent bots now, there wouldnt be bots with an entry limit

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You don't think someone would make a bot for, say, a 1 in 10 chance of winning Skyrim? Right now, it's about 1 in 3k, when the giveaways go up.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

^this.

People even make bots to cheat in FPS games - it's safe to assume they'd do so to get games for free. Especially since coding such a bot would be trivial.

who the fuck would make a bot for this site?

They have in the past. I don't know how many there currently are or if they solved that problem somehow, but do you really think they would pass up the chance if we started having giveaways with 100 max entries or less?
