as an RPG New Vegas hands down, the options you get to go trough a lot of missions depending on how you have level up your character are more varied, rather than just shooting your way trough.

and you get more choices that change the way you play the rest of the game, and more interesting enconunters.

New vegas is all the good from the old fallout games, and the new.

And the story DLC, completly worth it, it adds so much.

F3 is more streamlined and more on the whole apocalypse aspect. NV is a more open world game, you really have to choose a faction and have to war the others, it's more varied and a "happier" world.

Fallout 3 had epicness and scope, NV had a better multi layered story.

F3 missed a couple of crucial features that made Fallout 1 and 2 popular and fans wished from Fallout 3.

The open world later on became really closed up, a lot of the areas were cleverly disguised to be open but had invisible walls all around an could only be accessed using the tunnels. So the open world was some part sham.

Story itself. F3 had one storyline. That is it. F1 and F2 were famous for having different ways to approach through different factions. Fallout NV brought this back. You had different ways to play your character through different factions and complete the game.

Humor was also a major aspect. F1 & F2 had crazy characters, stupid plots and random encounters that made no sense. Kind of Monty Python esque approach to humor. F3 seemingly skipped on this. NV brought it back with strange and bizarre, be it a super mutant in a wig or the random encounter perk.

I do agree that F3 had better atmosphere and overall "save the world" story, NV was smaller in scope story wise but made you have choices that altered who you worked for. NV was a better sequel though from F2. Also NV was made by the guys who made F1 and F2 so I would guess they knew what they wanted to continue.

F3 didn't get that DLC until later and also people who only picked up F3 still experience the game as it is.

i think there is more to do in FNV, muuch more side quests

but New Vegas has the most awesome armor (non power armor) ever. look at that thing... is beautifully badass.
