I got a bit discouraged after several people already made their own math quizzes. Making it now would be a bit trite, maybe other time when you all forget about it. I haven't seen a game music puzzle in a while though, and these are always nice, so here is mine.

Rules:

  1. NO SHARING ANSWERS
  2. Do not forget Rule 1.

No contribution required, giveaways end on February 11th 2012, 11:00 am UCT+1. I will decide whether or not to give hints later, depending on how many people will have difficulties.

New version. Old version got deleted after someone came upon a way to find answers easier; luckily he was fair and informed me about it.
EDIT: I don't feel like making the third version, but the link to 20th question doesn't work. Click here for that video.

HINTS. If there are still no solvers later, additional hints will be provided.

  1. Eggscellent game from a really giddy series. Said series was popular in the UK (where it was made) and Ex-Eastern Block countries, but not much in the US from what I gather.
  2. Green animal formerly classified as a rodent solves his problems with a big gun. You can also play as another, mentally unstable totally-not-rodent.
  3. RPG based on a very popular sci-fi franchise. Has MMO 'sequel' that wasn't welcomed warmly.
  4. Cows are weapons of mass destruction. Uncanny protagonist that shouldn't even have limbs... he technically doesn't, but it's not like he lets that stop him.
  5. RTS. War. War in the far future. War war war war war. Did I mention war? There is only war. Grimdark. That's all you need to know.
  6. Sci-fi RPG/FPS hybrid. Most people would recognize the game from main menu music. This is from credits and not as many people recognize it, even though this tune is nice too. What a shame.
  7. Adventure game where you're looking for your dad. Ghosts, but no horror. Not a very subtle product placement of a handheld this was released on. (DS)
  8. Kid general who doesn't know what airport is. War has never been this colorful and fun.
  9. Platformer, a spin-off of a famous logic game. Series this is based on features creatures named after real-life animals that look nothing like them.
  10. Appeared in several Sonic compilations, but has nothing to do with Sonic.
  11. Spin-off from a series popular on NES. Robots. One of the bosses is named after a musical term.
  12. Series known for shirtless heroes. This installment is the first one where the shirtless hero is optional.
  13. Sega does what Nintendoes too, and Nintendoes RPGs. Mesh of sci-fi and fantasy. Contains an archaic spelling in the title.
  14. One series that just didn't want to die. This entry didn't make it out of Japan (officially) until many years later as a remake.
  15. "Speed up! Laser! Option!" Moai heads in space!
  16. Totally-not-Indiana-Jones searching for a treasure of life. Aliens. Extremely difficult - in the original freeware version you had to buy (for in-game money of course) ability to save!
  17. Arcade cult classic, you might know it for one of the sequels on X360. Contains dangerous amounts of bees. Some are even on fire!
  18. Your deities are gone. Now you have to climb up a tower. Prequel.
  19. Evil corporation named after Microsoft wants to conquer the universe. It's up to you to stop them in your trusty spacecraft. Currently freeware.
  20. Shoot 'em up. Pumpkins. Bunnygirls on motorcycles. Things with guns, girls with guns, guns with guns. It mentions guns in the title, if you missed the fact it contains guns.

I guess I did go a bit overboard with the questions. If you solve it, or when the giveaways end, tell me what game you thought it was, I'm curious.

With only platform hints, my ten question music puzzles still took a couple of days to solve. And they were open to collaboration, too >_>

Yeah, I think you need a bit more than platforms for the hints. There are thousands of games on PC, and each one of those can have that sound track.

Even with the platform and game details, I'm only up to 14!

Don't know how much more time I can justify on this :)
Don't even know what the giveaway is for!

Which answers are you missing?

And the games I'm giving away... well, considering how common they are and how relatively hard I made this puzzle, the few solvers I might get will probably be disappointed in them. D:
EDIT: I looked into your profile and noticed you already have them, so if you want to keep going, your only reward will be satisfaction of solving the puzzle.

For both games in Q5, I added two variations: one is the full title according to Wikipedia, second is just the subtitle.

Hmm, video 20 doesn't work for me for some reason... ironically that's the only one of those I actually got, just by your hint/description of the game. :P
Don't own any consoles and some of those games sound old... so probably not figuring them out. :/

Huge hint about 13 and 10 - they are actually both available on Steam. I didn't include that in platform hints because of the format of their release. Once again, look at the original console they were on.

Since you're PS player, did you get 9? I chose that one because of my nostalgia for it. If you haven't played it, you definitely should!

Hit 10/20. Thanks for this brain-teasing puzzle, it's one of the hardest game-guessing puzzles I saw so far! Need some more hints tho.

Comment has been collapsed.

I suspect 1 and 2 are the hardest, so I'll give hints for those.
1 is kinda like an adventure game, but not the point n' click kind. It requires a bit of thinking, and sometimes backtracking. At the first glance it resembles a platformer, but there is no fighting and no fast action. Plot involves our protagonist saving his friends from a curse cast by an evil wizard.
2 is a sequel of a shareware DOS platformer which some call "PC's answer to Sonic" because of intense speed. The bonus stages of the first game are even reminiscent of those in Sonic CD. Turtles are evil!

Because I'm silly turns out 17 is a game I played briefly once. Not quite underground, but I don't see the average puzzle solver getting this one too easily.

Edit: aand done.

Congrats. I was about to post another hint for 1, but you won. :P Might as well do it for others.

1's starting location is a henge. Going to the left you'll end up in a castle, going to the right you'll stumble upon a volcano.
The series is named after the protagonist.
Another game from the series takes place on a deserted island, which is reflected in its title.

I'm still stuck on 10 games. Didn't make a deep search on 1 yet, after all the clues. I think I know the series from 5, 6 and 11 but I dunno if I'm mistyping or just plain wrong XD

Hardest ones for me are 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19. Good night! =)

One more thing for 1 - there was a campaign on Kickstarter to revive the series in December, but that failed miserably.

Very big one for 5 - its publisher recently went under. I don't know how to help without outright stating which game that is.
6 is really well known. It had a sequel that everyone hated, but the prequel is liked almost as much as the original.
In 11, you can steal abilities of your enemies. Couple that with other hints.
12 offers characters other than the shirtless hero. They are a female cyborg, a short robot and a werewolf with shades and gun for a hand.
14 - when I said it just won't die, I meant the irony of the title. It implies there will be no more games, but then they made sequels. On top of that, the series is alive even today. This was the last installment for NES.
16 belongs to Metroidvania genre. Steam is taking a long time to release that, even though practically every other DD service that matter already has that game.
17 is a shoot 'em up. It had a big impact on its genre, which remained relatively niche unfortunately, though I might overstate its obscurity too much. It has a sequel with subtitle "Resurrection". Look very closely at my reply to retsukun.
18, as I mentioned, is a prequel. The first two parts of the series are coming to Steam very soon.
19 is also a shoot 'em up. If you use GOG, I'm 100% certain you already have this one.
