Not sure if this is really the place to ask, but I trust you SG guys more than posting on the SPUF.

I have a copy of Nexuiz, which was pulled from the Steam Store, and Mafia, the first game that's no longer able to be purchased from Steam. Both are tradeable inventory copies.

Now I figure Nexuiz's value is crap since it's an MP game, but what about Mafia? I really have no interest in the game, so I should probably just take any offer, but I don't want to be swindled.

Thoughts?

** EDIT: So it seems that the general consensus is that game trade values DO INCREASE after removal from Steam - even something "crappy" like Nexuiz.

Thank you all for the responses - I knew SG would give me honest ones. I'm glad I did not jump at the opportunity to trade Mafia for Monaco. I would have felt really stupid when I learned the truth. **

Yeah, by much. And there is always a collector out there who would pay for it.

Even Nexuiz

Really? I can see Mafia, but didn't expect Nexuiz to be coveted. But I guess as you guys said, there are always collectors. Hmmm

It probably won't become valuable very soon, it was only recently removed and there are likely some copies lying around from Amazon promos.

This is an actual inventory copy though, which tend to have higher value since its tangible and secure to trade.

It's not so much how tangible and secure it is, it's almost entirely collector value. On Ebay, FF7 is about 40 bucks for a new PS1 black label copy. People aren't paying an extra 30 bucks because they want it on PS1 and PS1 only when they can get it several dozen other ways. They want to collect that exact copy. Green labels are worth less than black labels, often to ten or twenty bucks less. There's literally no difference aside from the color of the label. People just like to collect things, myself included.

I can see the "value" in collecting physical objects, but it seems funny that people care so much to collect a specific type of digital product...though maybe that's hypocritical since I haven't played half my games and do tend to buy indie bundles just to "have" the games. lol

It doesn't matter if it's digital or physical, the product is as real as you want it to be. Why do you think people pay real money for stuff in WoW? My brother dropped 200 bucks on the collector's edition of The Last of Us for the little statue, but all it does is sit on a shelf where I spent 1.50 on an Awesomenauts skin and get way more enjoyment out of it despite it not being real.

Black labels go for 70+ in Canada, green labels are 40+

indeed, the value definitely increases if you cant buy it. When i bought blur it cost me like 40$... that was a 20$ game with tons of sales for 5. So yeah the price you can get skyrockets

Wow interesting. Didn't even realize Blur wasn't on Steam anymore (not a racing fan).

I got offered Monaco for my Mafia copy. I want Monaco, but is that a stupid trade to make then?

You can probably get a lot more, its a good game, and monaco's price will decrease in a while

IMO not enough. For Mafia 1 I would probably expect something more along the lines of a 30 dollar game. Especially when you consider monaco just had 50% or so off.

Yeah wish I'd known the future, would have stored a few. The only time I dipped my toe in the waters of trading people was when people were throwing Blurs at you. The one I have in Library was swapped for a copy of Dota 2.

This game has nothing to do with GTA series. Okey, only open world...
But, really, give it a try, it is THE BEST game I have ever played (and I am really not teen gamer), best story of all times without a doubt.
I know, it is old and so. But really, it is one of the best (if not the best) singleplayer games you can ever play. Trust me, you will love it
Btw: Mafia 2 crap has nothing to do with this masterpiece

I own over 500 games on Steam (not counting other sites and physical games)...you really think I'd pirate a game I already technically own? :P

What I was wondering last week, although not enough to research, was trading cards for removed games. The value would rise, but I don't know the contracts. At least in some cases Valve might have to block them from the market.

Never thought about that...I wonder if Valve even considered that. I doubt Valve would block them because they make a cut on every Steam Market sale, so why would they care if prices skyrocketed?

"Block" is maybe a poor word choice.

If their relationship with Valve soured, could a publisher (or whoever owns the IP at that time) remove permission for the cards being sold on market or be forced into receiving their 10%

You have a point. Valve is never open about their contracts with pubs/devs, so who knows what they've agreed to.

Yes, it increases. You can probably get 2x it's full price value if someone really wants it on their Steam collection.

I kinda regret giving away all my copies of Nexiuz I had from Amazon but I realize I wouldn't have put any hours into it since it doesn't really interest me. Then I look at the people who won the game and realize they hadn't put any hours into it either.

Then I don't really know what to think anymore...

Then the universe collapses.

I have a copy of Mafia as well, got an offer worth ~$30 pretty easily. It seems to be pretty rare, unlike Nexuiz, Ignite, etc, so I believe you could easily get more for it.
