Hello all,

Here with a quick 2 day puzzle, I present to you, KenKen! If you're unfamiliar with KenKen, here is a summary of the rules:

  1. Fill in the numbers from 1-5 (since this is a 5x5 grid).
  2. Do not repeat a number in any row or column.
  3. The numbers in each heavily outlined set of squares--called cages--must combine (in any order) to produce the target number in the top corner using the mathematical operation indicated.
  4. Cages with just one square should be filled in with the target number in the top corner. These are freebies :)
  5. A number can be repeated within a cage, as long as it is not in the same row or column.

Here is a FAQ, if you are still confused: http://www.kenken.com/aboutus_faq.html

Here is an example, if you are still confused: KenKen example from Wikipedia

Here is the puzzle: Puzzle! This one took me a little under two minutes to solve.

Once you have solved the puzzle, enter the 25 digit string (left to right, top to bottom) into this URL to access the prize: http://bit.ly/?????????????????????????

EDIT Wow, I didn't expect such an enthusiastic response! Tomorrow, I will post a bonus puzzle inside of this one. It will be a larger, more difficult kenken grid, probably with a one day time limit. Thanks!

this is a great idea, thanks! but how can a two square cage be 1? that shouldn't be possible according to the rules right?

edit: oh wait, it is 1-. sorry about that, i'm blind at times

The puzzle generator I found has the tiniest output for the operands. I blew this one up a little to make them easier to see; however, some are still quite small.

I like it. Simple, but requires a brain.

Never done one of these before, but I solved it by learning and checking out the interactive tutorial.

Pretty neat, and more fun than sudoku.

Are you sure there is only one solution to your new puzzle and/or that the link is correct? I found a solution, checked it, and tried to use it in the link but it doesn't seem to work :S

I originally solved it with a solution the generator didn't accept. It wanted me to flip two pairs of cells, which seem to be negligible to the overall outcome. I have included both solutions as valid answers that should lead to the bonus prize. You may have tried it just before I submitted the second URL.

I tried submitting again and it still won't accept the url. I also triple checked my numbers. I guess I'll have to try to solve it again...

EDIT: Some have pointed out that the bonus puzzle has two solutions that differ from each other by swapping two negligible pairs of cages. I have included both solutions as valid bitly URLs that will lead to the giveaway. This shouldn't be an issue for anyone attempting the bonus after 1:51pm EST.

If you continue to have an invalid URL, please add me on steam. If your solution solves the puzzle I will give you the private URL.
