more lives, much faster and more intense. with power ups. like double arms (you have a basket extended opposite the one youo control) for a limited time.
bomb eggs. they fall down, after a time they light. then after a time they explode. if you get them in your basket before they light you get a bomb. if it's already lit and gets in your basket then you lose some eggs.
coins occasionally fall down, you use these to buy permanent power ups like the vacuum and spuirt gun.
you can manipulate the position of the bomb eggs (and others) with a squirt gun and vacuum cleaner powerups.
occasionally an egg will start to hatch. then something will poke it's head out. it could be a bird in which case you want to get it in your basket before it fully ahtches and flies (or falls) off, to get those bird points (or maybe just money). it could be a snake in which case you want to prevent it from getting in your basket until it hatches and slithers off or else it will eat some of your eggs.

Darn. I got 48 on my second playthrough. Pretty hard.
Uh, would it be in the same art-style/medium (line-drawings and 2d environment)?
I have some alright ideas and some normal/cliche ones, but I would first like to know how similar it would be.

Here's some of my thoughts. Well, I quite like the game for it's simplicity. Not too many distractions, just paying attention and quick reflexes reward you in this game. In terms of not a game mechanic change but rather just a quality-of-life update, I think there should be a clear and quick indicator (both visual and audio, if possible) of when you exactly have an egg in your basket. Sometimes I lost eggs because I would quickly move to another egg without actually having the egg in my basket, though I thought I had held it there long enough.
That actually ties in with my next thought, an idea for an actual change. I'd like to keep this game simple so I think it would be a neat idea if the basket filled up, eventually, with however many eggs. And putting it "down" (a new direction) temporarily would clear the basket/let you pick up a new empty one. Otherwise, if you have too many there would be some penalty. Maybe you would drop it and lose the points but the eggs wouldn't break or maybe the eggs would just overflow and hit the ground causing you to lose faster. This could fit in with my first suggestion by making the clear visual indicator of successfully catching an egg to be it showing up in the basket.
Um, yeah, that's my biggest idea for a small, but hopefully, interesting change. Like I said before, I like how it's about perceiving as much as you can and having quick reflexes so hopefully this idea can add an even further dynamic. If I have any more ideas I'll make a new reply with them!

It's a simple concept really, what's there to improve on? o O
From what little I've played in that simulator though, it does seem possible for multiple eggs to drop at the same time though, making it impossible to save them all even from the start of the game. Perhaps the eggs from the higher row could be coded to actually fall a certain distance in the air before being considered broken. Also, fixing the issue in the first scenario so that only one egg will actually break per animation cycle.

I like the idea with all the suceess of android an IOS games you can make big money I always like more clean games, games that kids can play it like we did without all the sex and violence(I look so old saying this). I don't know much about making games but I belive games should have story no matter what but it should be something you progress in, even like angry birds that you get that little bit of info and can picture a bigger story. Even the same game with Levels and short stories betwen them would make it much better I think.

Add hats.
But seriously, I'd probably give some other objectives, or rewards for reaching a certain amount, like having chickens attack you for stealing their eggs, and a level involving you running from them trying not to drop any once you reach that amount. Those are my ideas

Nice game. It is better to improve it according to nowadays style. With increasing difficulty or something that will give a sense of progression. Like most arcade style gaming today, the increasing of difficulty can be in many form such as speed, number of eggs and maybe throw in some obstacle that should not be collected eg some rock instead of eggs. Also as said by yrt, power up might bring a new feels to an old game but overuse it and it will destroy the game.
Edit: You can also add in some modes to it such as reversing the arrow function, eg left being right, up being down etc. Or even random arrow button eg left being up, up being right etc.

Add a fox which will try to steal the eggs before you do. Now he's not appearing very often but often enough and consistent enough to disrupt your game.
You need to give the players clue which egg the fox is going to steal. So maybe first the fox shows up like a thief and then set his eyes on particular chicken so the player knows that egg is going to be stolen and have to make decision whether to save that egg first or give it up to save another egg from crashing.
You can also change the theme to saving people jumping off burning tallbuildings. Then that fox is changed to firemen providing safe jump on platform to certain people high above or firetruck raising their ladder. Change the people to animal looking people too as it would be kind of gory to see you failing to save people jumping to their death.

It reminds me of the classic Game & Watch games, I would start off the levels easy and then get progressively harder, rolling out more eggs and quicker each level, I would add in a minigame possibly, try and catch eggs from the sky before they hit the ground etc. and eggs worth different amount of eggs BIG EGGS:20 SMALLER EGGS:10, and to give the rabbit something to do, probably make it throw obstacles down for the wolf to dodge. Just some of my ideas, hope you find them interesting, I like simple games like this though. :D

3D.
maybe some spoiled eggs (if you catch those, everything you had gets spoiled)?
rooster in the back that throws stuff (eggs?) at you (if they hit you, you lose a life).
eggs can be sold to get upgrades.
a large ammount of eggs can be consumed to get an extra life?
story.
multiplayer.

I personally would have different versions of the gameplay, you could have the classic one like this one i just played and failed terribly, second a "modern" version of this one "survival mode" maybe with the programing made so 3 eggs dont drop at the same time -.- (reason why i lost like 1 minute after started playing), and maybe a story mode like other people has said that i think its a good idea!
I think the original game its waaaay to difficult, i remember having games like this with soldiers that i had to shoot, it was challenging but a lot more easier than this one, a no end game like this one but it had stages like NES games, i think thats the more apropiate way to do games of this style, with stages everyone more challenging until it begins to be imposible to win
Another idea its that you could maybe put golden eggs that heal the lifes you have lost (but not give you extra lifes just heal you, so the game can be difficult yet the idea of 3 lifes its great, maybe add eggs of different colors that if you catch them give you certain abilities like a blue egg for slow...
Thats are my ideas for the game :)
I hope that if you make that game at least give us tons of keys on Steamgifts, i would give you a greenlight if the game its solid but not this impossible. ;)

I'm thinking BitTrip Runner style game (in a 3rd person perspective though), where the character moves forward increasingly fast the more eggs (or whatever) he picks up, with several powerups that allow the character to transition faster from place to place (with of course much more fluid and varied animations). The powerups could be displayed with even crazier animations (barrel rolls, and the like).

Destruction engine!
Really though, I'd like it a lot if the eggs fell faster when time/score increases. Little distractions in the background like birds flying past or a cow mooing loudly would make the a little more difficult for people who get easily distracted, like myself. Different background settings could lead to different distractions (and maybe some background music?). Special eggs falling every now and then could serve as a power up of some sort, or something that would hinder the player's ability to do something (slower turn time, more distractions, or reversing controls like Aeighwoupe had suggested.)

I'm too lazy to read through all these suggestions, so I don't know if mine has been said already, but here they are:
-As the time goes on (levels, if you will, progress), more chickens appear = more eggs dropping and more eggs for you to catch.
-Powerups are a must. Some examples might be faster movement, larger basket (yup, someone said this already), and slower dropping of eggs from the chickens.
-Actually, levels would be pretty cool. Not automatic levels you can unlock in one playthrough, but like... Angry Birds-style levels. The levels can feature a differing number of chickens dropping eggs, different available powerups for you to use (either purchase at the beginning/built into the level?), and whatever other suggestions from other people you might want to incorporate in.
That's all I have at the moment. Good luck. :)
EDIT: Added something else.

That is a game which the concept lies on your character remainin on the center. Why not updated it to a modern version of said concept, an On a Rails type game.
A 2D side scrolling game which your character moves on a fixed speed and direction, left to right as you would try to collect your eggs by jumping at the right time, crouching, maybe sliding under obstacles. So that would be easy to focus the main awesome part of the game on the level design, and multiple obstacles, maps, maybe some options/power ups for you to slow down and head to multiple paths, each type of egg, a different point system, I.E golden eggs that are on difficult paths are worth bigger points than the regular ones on the regular paths, creating a medal system for you to unlock more levels.
Maybe even other game modes, IE your character moving from right to left on a mirror level :3.

I would suggest more fluid game play rather than the current static eggs which move in "frames", improved art with a bit of a cartoon like look would also help but I think people who enjoy having that old school look.

Recently I stumbled across a very old game that was very popular back in the early 90s, it was the first portable game device in Europe and Russia I believe. Maybe you have even played it yourself, I have some childhood memories with it.
Click Here to Play (Click Start and play using arrow keys)
I think its a fun game concept and it gets very hard as you progress.
I want to try to create something similar (not copycat) and I want to hear your ideas about how to improve this game play concept.
In return, if your suggestion is at least a bit interesting, you will get a private giveaway link for BioShock Infinite.
Any and all types of suggestions will be considered. But the best ones considered will be the ones that stay within the concept.
EDIT: Thanks for a great response! #Also - what would be a good name for a game like this?#
EDIT2: Giveaway open for 6 days
EDIT3: THANKS EVERYONE! Most of you got an invite. Now I am debating what to call the game.
Some suggestions so far were "Wolfs breakfast" and to name the wolf Ramirez.
I searched for some wolfs names/synonyms and got the flowing wolf names: Ranulf, Rannulf, raul, rodolfo, sandalio, seff, varg, vuk, zev, blonco. Anything shines from this? Anything to combine? If your name is chosen - free copy of Bioshock 1, The Walking Dead, and Telltale games for you.
