Until further notice, SteamGifts now has a zero tolerance policy towards Dead Island, Portal 2, and AI War CD-keys being submitted. These will be considered exploited, the giveaway removed, and the gifter possibly suspended.

Thank you for your cooperation.

That's a shame. I mean I don't care about Dead Island and Portal2. But AI War is a great game people should be playing :(

When giving it as a Steam gift, there's no problem there, that's what I'm doing at the moment. :-)

I suppose but I feel people are going to 'lump' it into exploited games like Dirt3 and Dead Island and just avoid them all together. Or people might be afraid to list it.

No more Portal 2? :( How come? I never heard of that being exploited

Already played Portal 2 and Dead Island, but AI war sounded actually purty cool. A shame :/

That sucks, I was hoping to win Portal 2 legitimately from this site. How did they even steal them?? I have heard whisperings of Portal 2 possibly being given away for the database hacking, but I doubt it. Could the exploited keys be related to the database intrustion?

It's only for Steam keys of Portal 2, members can still gift extra copies of Portal 2.

An explanation as to why this has been done would be a good idea. Admins and Mods not being open to their community is the first step in creating friction and frustration between the userbase and "the system".

I think Cult had posted a topic about where these exploited keys were being purchased.

Not everyone knows what "fkn0wned" is and why keys from that place are bad. Also this thread doesn't say that there is a connection between this rule and fkn0wned. Again more explanation is always a good idea to keep the community updated on current events.

The first 7 comments are a shining example.

Well people were complaining that Cult had posted where the stolen keys came from.

So that means suddenly means it's better to leave the other 98% of the community in the dark because the 2% were complaining?

If you've been paying attention, you should have a pretty good idea of what's going on. Even if you haven't, simple logical induction should tell you why the redeemable keys for certain specific games are no longer allowed coughdirt3cough (whether or not it's warranted is something else entirely, feel free to discuss that).

How bout you look at the other comments, some simple logical induction should tell you why I am asking for an explanation, here's a hint: it's not for me, it's for the others!

Yes I realized that, and if that's the problem you're having with my argument replace "you" with "they"/"them". Point remains valid.

It's because they're exploited and we don't want to tell you how. We do not want to support this behavior and we do not want to support any of the communities that condone this behavior while allowing these keys to be sold. Expoited also doesn't always mean leak.

That's as much information I can give you. Thanks for your concern.

Telling us what happened does not equal supporting leaks/exploits/terrorism. Please do not go down the road where you prefer keeping your community in the dark because you think that's best for them, because it really is not.

"Telling us what happened does not equal supporting leaks/exploits"
It is, partly. You know that at least a dozen users will then illegally acquire the game. Plus, why do you need more information? Isn't "there has been a leak/exploit" enough?
"keeping your community in the dark because you think that's best for them, because it really is not."
Actually, it is. Of course every member of the community thinks that they should and have the right to know and that knowing everything is always a good thing and yada yada yada, but really they just want to feed their curiosity. Literally nothing good will happen if they tell the community every single detail about the exploit.

The users that want to use such exploits/leaks will find it one way or another. SG would be the last place to find information needed for such things. There will always be some rotten apples in your batch, but that doesn't make you trow out the entire basket.

...but really they just want to feed their curiosity.

When you are prohibited from doing something, the first thing that comes to mind is ofcourse "why?". This curiosity is a good thing. If everyone would just accept everything that happens, this world would be in total chaos. A good reason and explanation is needed. Noone is asking for complete details, which really are not needed. Just saying "This has happened in place X, which is why Y is no longer allowed." is enough. Saying "The following game keys are now considered exploited." doesn't really cut it for something as drastic as getting banned for submitting a key from those games. Calling it zero tolerance and leaving everyone in the dark only scares and confuses the normal members and those are the people you are trying to protect here. The rotten apples know what you are talking about and couldn't care less.

"SG would be the last place to find information needed for such things."

Sure no one will go to SG to find exploits, but some members of SG will stumble on it.

"There will always be some rotten apples in your batch, but that doesn't make you trow out the entire basket."

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

"This curiosity is a good thing."

. . .

PANDORA'S BOX!
BOOM!
Your argument is now invalid.

I never said it's a bad thing, I said that right now it won't lead to anything good, right now it's pointless and right now it's just like an addiction to heroin.

"Just saying "This has happened in place X, which is why Y is no longer allowed." is enough."

Which is what they said. The site it happened on doesn't matter.

"Calling it zero tolerance and leaving everyone in the dark only scares and confuses the normal members and those are the people you are trying to protect here."

Admittedly that's the mistake they made. They should have lied and said something that sounds boring.

"The rotten apples know what you are talking about and couldn't care less."

Free Battlefield 3 because IGN screwed up.
The rotten apples spoiled the whole batch... My god, that sounds pretentious, doesn't it.

"Sure no one will go to SG to find exploits, but some members of SG will stumble on it."

Might as well remove this thread entirely then, it has caused people to go looking for exploited keys. Might as well remove this entire website since it has caused people to look for exploited/leaked keys.

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

Sorry, but this path has been long walked by many already. Often turned out to be the wrong one.

"I said that right now it won't lead to anything good, right now it's pointless and right now it's just like an addiction to heroin."

It is not pointless, it would make users aware that there are currently keys out there for these games from certain places that are not legit and can get them banned from Steam. Knowing what to look out for is always of more help. Right now it only leaves room for speculation.

"Which is what they said. The site it happened on doesn't matter."

[Until further notice, SteamGifts now has a zero tolerance policy towards Dead Island, Portal 2, and AI War CD-keys being submitted. These will be considered exploited, the giveaway removed, and the gifter possibly suspended.]

Boy this sure doesn't hit like a bombshell and clearly explains why these keys are considered exploited.

"Admittedly that's the mistake they made. They should have lied and said something that sounds boring."

Yea because it's always better to lie or be vague instead of being open and
honest. You should consider working for the government.

" Free Battlefield 3 because IGN screwed up. The rotten apples spoiled the whole batch... My god, that sounds pretentious, doesn't it."

But comparing apples to oranges really doesn't.

Discussion is dragging on a tad too long for merely 2 people. We might have to stop.

I see your point, but at least this site didn't directly link to the site with exploited keys.

"Sorry, but this path has been long walked by many already. Often turned out to be the wrong one."

Wow, to be honest I just found a random saying and posted it. I didn't think it would actually make a point in my favor. Let's try another one.

"Flying is the second hardest thing known to man, landing is the first."

"It is not pointless, it would make users aware that there are currently keys out there for these games from certain places that are not legit and can get them banned from Steam."

As opposed to legit exploited keys that won't get you banned?

"Boy this sure doesn't hit like a bombshell and clearly explains why these keys are considered exploited."

Fair enough. Reading it again it does sort of sound scary. It does give the information that keys for games have been exploited just in a blunt way. It's like saying: "Oh, hi. Your wife has murdered your baby child and then killed herself. You are now alone in this world. Please remain calm.".
Robots don't know any better though.

"Yea because it's always better to lie or be vague instead of being open and honest. You should consider working for the government."

Nah, I hate politics. Well, not always but yes, it's better to lie. Why would anyone lie if it wasn't better than being honest?

"But comparing apples to oranges really doesn't."

Not sure... Probably.

"Discussion is dragging on a tad too long for merely 2 people. We might have to stop."

Nah, if it was more than 2 it would be unreadable, if it was less than 2.. it would be weird.
