Wow. A turn based XCOM game made by Firaxis? This looks a lot more promising than 2K. As a hardcore fan of the series, this made me quite happy.

You do know 2K Games owns Firaxis, right?

I hope they make a hell of a good job :D I still remember playing the first game from this series. The second one was shit :P

The second one was the first game just re-skinned.

But the second one was waaay harder than the first. And although it didn't have anything new, it was still good imo. It had a nice feeling to it and a good atmosphere.

I will play this game more than anything else for the entire year after release. I have a giant backlog of games before this comes out, because nothing else will see the light of day. X-COM was the only game I played for a long time on PC and then on Playstation many, many years ago.

No spoilers, but I beat it the first time in the most epic fashion. I was at the last area and only had one guy left armed with a Blaster Bomb. I pinpointed the path perfectly in the dark straight to the objective narrowly missing previously unseen aliens that were a tile from blocking the shot and successfully blew it to hell. It took out the room. I had won the game. My favorite video game memory.

Well I could still play the old ones today, I had hopes on this remake, but now I have greater hopes :)

Refresh my memory: to finish the game didn't you need to blast that ... thing with a Heavy Plasma and only that?

Other than that, If this would be an actual remake I don't care for anything that is made after.

I am actually not interested in anything remade. Just give me the game with Windows 7 support, higher resolution, better UI with more mouse controls(ex. scroll wheel) and nothing more. Leave the sprites they are perfect. This game doesn't need anything new.

You certainly don't. Recently I finished it with blaster bomb hitting Ethereal wearing another blaster bomb and blowing whole room up, ending the game.

I really have great expectations towards this game. XCOM is part of my youth... I'd be extremely disappointed if the game won't live up to its predecessors.

As long as 2K don't screw this like they screwed Civ 5 by forcing it out the door not-really-finished I'll be a very happy chappy.

Great! I loved XCOM: Ufo Defense (aka Enemy Unknown). I found the slow process of researching alien corpses and aircrafts to be a great plot development :)

Yup. The first time I took a piece of alien technology, researched it, and used it AGAINST them... man that felt awesome.

Now that it's going back to its roots in Firaxis, great things are to be expected.

PS. X-Com complete is $3.75 at GamersGate, DRM free!

The plasma rifle. Oh boy... the sectoids would rape me from a distance with those, but when I actually researched it and used it against them... now that felt awesome.

And can you believe that I actually freaked out once when I found a Chryssalid in front of me after turning a corner during a Terror mission? haha, good times.

It's currently the daily deal on Steam for around the same price too. I just kind of sneezed and inadvertently bought it ;)

£3.05 for us Brits. Which is actually surprising given Steams usual bullshit of $1 = £1

3,75€, excactly 69 cents more than on my card. Well, PSC not supported anyway, so... shrugs, I guess that means not buying the games a 3rd time just for Interceptor and Apocalypse ^^ :D

"Is this going to be dumbed down for the 'wider console audience'?
Firaxis is undeniably streamlining aspects of the game and removing no small amount of micromanagement, but from what I've seen I wouldn't call it "dumbing down" the game so much as getting rid of tedium and uninteresting mechanics. Soldiers still die permanently, fog of war and line of sight are hugely important in combat, and you absolutely can lose the game if you screw up too badly."

Hmm...
