mercenaries 2 is redeemable on origin through chat support :D

You're welcome, and the "option unknown" you have up there, you can activate it through the Origin client itself, so option 1 I guess? As for where to look in the registry it's "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Electronic Arts/EA Games/Need for Speed Undercover/ergc" (for windows 7 64 bit)

Mass effect 1 key from steam can be registered on Origin through method 2, I just did this yesterday. I am pretty sure Mass effect 2 can as well though that one might just work with method 1.
Edit: Dragon Age Origins key from steam can be redeemed as well.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I am not sure what you mean, Mass effect 1 can only be redeemed through method 2 (the activate.ea.com site), it does not work by just trying to redeem it in Origin.

Thanks so much for this!
Confirmed Deadspace 2 (CD key from Steam ) worked on Origin.
Cannot figure out how to get Deadspace 1 key.

I dont see it in there.. maybe cause I never installed Deadspace yet? .. I would assume this is why

If you really want to, I think you can add it by contacting support and giving them the key, not positive though.

Nope, not all. Old game aren't redeamable. I tried NFS Underground 1/2/Most Wanted and Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Spearhead, Breakthrough, Pacific Assault Director's Edition and Airborne.
I wasn't able to activate them via tech support either since EA doesn't offer digital download for games this old.

I tried again today, right after seeing this thread. They told me my games aren't yet supported on Origin and that I should try again in a few months or so.

Well, I had my MOH Airborne retail key added just a couple of days ago through chat support. So I would try with saying your friend also got it activated, so why can it not be done for you? You may mention my name if you want to (same on Origin).
They migh have read over the part of Airborne maybe, as the other MOH games are indeed not available at all on Origin, and they also could not activate those with me (I tried Allied Assault and Pacific Assault).

Kind of a weird question... but let's say, for the sake of conversation, that my Steam Sims 3 keys (and expansion keys) work on Origin. Could both clients be launched and running the game on separate PC's?
Comment has been collapsed.
It launches cut version of origin and you must log in to your origin account through it and after that copy-paste a key that steam tells you in order to play. Actually i ended up playing it through full origin cause steam version had coop connection issues.

There is no such things as "Keys that aren't redeemable for Origin" and for the having no key problem you can talk to support and demand the game, say that EA said that they let you activate all their game you buy outside Origin, in Origin, so they should've put a notice that the game doesn't activate on Origin prior to purchase.
EDIT: Also the Shank games aren't EA. :/ (the ones on Steam)
Comment has been collapsed.
In all fairness, don't you think it is a nice option to know in advance what keys Steam provides for Origin?
You can go and demand all kinds of stuff from Origin support, but possibly being right, is still different form getting it. Also, some keys are hidden in registry, others might only activate through support. The list itself isn't that much worth, but I think the additional info is.
Edit: Also, do you have a source about where EA/Origin stated that purchases made of EA games outside of Origin are redeemable through Origin?
Comment has been collapsed.
Or maybe the header is there because it's important information that people should take notice of?
Mirror's Edge is the only EA game on Steam that doesn't provide a CD-Key. The only info a person need to know is that all EA games on Steam are redeemable, if it doesn't appear in your CD-Keys oft he game, it's in registry. If you can't activate it on Origin, you can try to activate at the classic EA link, and if all fails you can just go to support so they can activate it. And that the only game that doesn't provide a key is Mirror's Edge.
Of course the side info doesn't hurt anyone. But the main info regarding it should still be noted.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well thanks for the info. So, not ALL EA game keys are redeemable through Origin, which was in your previous important message.
I'm sorry I have te be a bit sarcastic maybe, but I simply don't like the use of headers in a thread like this. Because it sounds like you are screaming, and cannot make a point without using them. Just like the use of capital letters. But I probably won't have to tell you that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, we were specifically talking about Steam, so I said Steam EA Games. Obviously the oldest EA games that aren't even on Origin won't be redeemable because they aren't even on Origin, but beside that any EA game that is also on Origin can be activated on Origin.
And you might have seen me somewhere on the forum previously, I have never used header, it was my first time because I believed the information was important enough that I should bring more attention to it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, well thanks for the pointing that out. But I would not have missed it when it would not have been. In fact, after I refreshed the page once and it turned into a header (it was not before) that was when I ignored it, because of 'shouting'.
It felt rather rude. And yes, I have seen you before on the forum, could not reacall you being rude, then again, I have been wrong about people before in the past, especially online.
Add to that the fact that when I first typed this topic, I accidentaly clicked one of my own links with the result of losing all the text, and that made that maybe I overreacted to your reaction (by already being somewhat frustrated). If so, sorry for that. But please for the love of god (well, I don't really love him, but that's another story...) never use caps or headers like that again. As it resulted in me being pissed off now, and a tag next to your name, which I will adjust now.
And well, this is a site for Steam so off course the focus is on Steam, but keys from retail games are also welcome to find their place in this topic. :)
Edit: also, I edited the OP. So if you would be so kind to remove the header parts of your posts, I would very much appreciate that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, the reply wasn't meant solely for you (if it did I wouldn't have used a header because you would've read it either way), it was also meant for other people, and that header meant for people who wouldn't bother to read every single comment, and needed something to pull the attention.
I know the frustration of losing a whole wall of text, happened to me so many time I lost count already, very frustrating. But I would suggest using Chrome, because that way you can just press the 'back' button and all the text you wrote in the previous page would still be there.

Reply to edit; Sure, and didn't think it continued to bother you, sorry.

Reply to edit; I already forgot the source, but I remember that after seeing it I immediately transferred all of my EA games to Origin (I wouldn't try doing it without some kind of source, I remember that it was just EA's marketing move so to try to get as many people as possible to use Origin).
Fact is that when I came to support regarding Mirror's Edge, he didn't want to give me a copy on Origin but then when I mentioned EA's promise regarding EA games bought outside of Origin, he didn't argue and just asked for some confirmation that I actually own the game on Steam.

As I said above, old game aren't redeamable. I tried NFS Underground 1/2/Most Wanted and Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Spearhead, Breakthrough, Pacific Assault Director's Edition and Airborne.

I meant it for game that are on Origin, obviously you won't be able to activate a game that isn't on Origin.

Which version did you select? When using mine, I got the choice between some deluxe version and base game. Off course I tried deluxe, so tried my luck through support so they activated it for me (the base game). So if you get the choice, choose the base one, unfortunately. :)
Also, weird that your BF2 key worked directly. Mine did not (older retail copy) as did my Crysis key (also older retail copy). Of which people state in this thread they have activated without support. Maybe there are different batches of keys, of which some work, and some don't?
Comment has been collapsed.
No. It works only one way - from Steam to Origin.

I can confirm trouble-free activation of Crysis 1 & Crysis: Warhead via https://activate.ea.com/activategame.do :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I bought both Crysis games on SSS last week then used that site to redeem Steam keys and it worked at the first attempt with no problems at all.
Comment has been collapsed.
Who is talking about buying on Origin here? If you buy on Origin, you don't need to redeem anything eh.
As said in OP, if you feel like bashing on Origin, please, go vent tour thoughts in one of the many other Origin topics there are already.
Comment has been collapsed.
I could Dragon Age: Origins redeem on Origin simply in the client using the CD-key from Steam.
Comment has been collapsed.
Do some of them happen to be retail? As it seems by the reactions here, that newer keys from some games do work (when bought pretty recently on Steam for example) while older keys for exactly the same key don't work and have to be activated through support.
Edit: try support, got the same message with one key of mine, which was even provided by support themselves, somehow they activated it afterwards to my account when I told them.
Comment has been collapsed.
Some games can be activated through chat support. I did that with like 15 EA retail games lol.
Comment has been collapsed.
Only certain games have them and you have to set the page language to English. Try different games and look their options, some should have chat option. I did that like 1,5 year ago but it still should work. I doubt they'd back out of the chat support.

I can't find my Shank cd keys, I searched even in registry :(
Comment has been collapsed.
They were all retail keys. Also, I had to ask support to add the Spore base game and The Sims Medieval as well. Its worth noting that older games cant be activated on origin, with some exceptions.
"Having reviewed your email, I understand that you want to register your Sims 2 game collection on your Origin account. I checked our database and found that since the games you have mentioned in your email are old games; therefore, they could not be entitled on your Origin account;"

There is already something like a Steam redeemable list, so I thought, why no Origin redeemable list? Yes I know this is Steamgifts, not Origin. But I like to think we have a nice community here. ^^
If you happen to god awfully hate Origin, there are plenty of Origin thread already on Steamgifts and I'd prefer if you would vent your emotions there. :)
I have already found a list of games that do not activate on Origin (directly, see third bullet below). List may seem outdated, but I have this feeling there has not changed much about it.
As Origin/EA puts it themselves, there are 3 ways to redeem a key for Origin:
Activate a key through the client or at https://www.origin.com/us/account for games from 2008 and onwards.
Activate a key through https://activate.ea.com/activategame.do for games released prior to 2008.
Activate a key through support for certain exceptions (they list Crysis + Crysis Warhead, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Spore, The Sims 2 and Command and Conquer for example).
I am gonna try and list also what ways where used to redeem a key in Origin and also if the key came from Steam or not.
Additions to this list are more then welcome!
If you have any additions, pleasy mention the origin (hehe) of the key and what way you activated it.
List of keys that are confirmed redeemable for Origin:
Alice Maddnes Return (key from Steam) option 1.
Battlefield 2 (retail key, possibly also Steam) mixed reports, some works with option 2, others through support.
Batllefield: Bad Company 2 (key from Steam) in my case redeemed through support, but other options probably work as well.
Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (key from retail copy) activated through the client.
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (key from Steam) option 2.
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath (key from Steam) option 2, most likely also gets activated by activating just the C&C 3 key, at least from Steam.
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight (key from Steam) option 1/through the client.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (key from Steam) option 1/through the client.
Crysis (key from Steam & retail) mixed reports, some works with option 2, others support.
Crysis Warhead (key from Steam & probably retail) mixed reports, some works with option 2, others probably through support.
Crysis 2 Maximum Edition (key from Steam) activated through option 1/the client.
Darkspore (key from Steam) option 1.
Dead Space (key from Steam, you have to look it up in the registry though) activated through the client.
Dead Space 2 (key from steam) activated through the client.
Dragon Age Origins (key from Steam) method unknown.
Gatling Gears (origin unknown) option 1.
Mass Effect (key from Steam & probably retail) mixed reports, some works with option 2, others probably through support.
Mass Effect 2 (key from Steam) option 1.
Medal of Honor: Airborne (retail key) activated through support.
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (key from retail copy) option 2.
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (key from Steam) option 1.
Need for Speed: Undercover (key from Steam, you have to look it up in the registry though) option 1.
Shift 2 Unleashed (key from Steam) option 1.
SimCity 4 (key from Steam, look it up in registry) added through support.
The Sims 2 + Expansions (origin unknown) one report of mixed succes through support.
The Sims 3 + Expansions (key(s) from Steam) method unknown.
List of keys that are confirmed to not give a key in Steam:
Mirror's Edge (no Steam key) the one big exception to EA games giving keys in Steam, Necroblight and also myself can confirm that support can help you with this by providing a screenshot (next to the Origin account in my case).
Shank (no Steam key) because it is not published by EA on Steam.
Shank 2 (no Steam key) because it is not published by EA on Steam.
I have some more keys (not much) that I have that I am gonna try through support, so off course I will also update the result of that here.
In case there are a lot of keys mentioned that do not work (or maybe just through support from the list mentioned earlier) I might also create a list for that. Most likely actually about keys from Steam (like Mirror's Edge, which does not give a key).
As you can see, it is a rather short list now, but I hope to expand it with your help. Especially the EA games keys that are also available on Steam. I will probably try some Command & Conquer games shortly.
Update:
As Necroblight pointed out, all games from EA can in some way be activated through Origin.
If the key is not provided by Steam directly, it will be in the registry. Only exception to that would be Mirror's Edge.
Complete list of EA games on Steam (except Darkspore) is here.
And as much as I might like to shout to following back at him at this very moment (which might in part be through the fact that I lost the text of this topic first just before I wanted to create it), I trust everyone can read it without using headers or caps.
Does it not work for any reason? Ask Necroblight why (not seriously). :P
