Invites:

  • Only people with X amount of months of registration can send invites
    or
  • Only people with successful X amount of Giveaways can send invites

Gifts:

  • Get rid of point system
    and
  • Limit the number of giveaways people can enter each day to 3~5 (which is pretty good, and also raises the chances of other people that actually want a game and not just to win something), number doesn't stack to the next day in case people don't try their luck on a gift.

Scammers:

People can fake user picture and account title. They can't however, fake account ID. Because it is already in use.

Example:

My account ID is iESCUDO

So this is the link: http://steamcommunity.com/id/iESCUDO/

Let's suppose i win something, account ID is iESCUDO, nick is ESCUDO.

ESCUDO wins.

Scammer fakes account name to ESCUDO and copies account image.

Scammer can't fake ID

Gifter is contacted by scammer, Gifter goes to giveaway page and clicks the winner's link. In winner's profile clicks on "Click here" which is in front of "Steam Profile", checks winner's ID, compares with scammer's profile ID. Scammer is caught.

Even if the ID is numbers, they won't change because it's the account "number".

I like "Only people with X amount of months of registration can send invites"

I don't like the removal of point system.

The scammer problem cannot be solved even like that, since it is still depended on human factor (the creator of the giveaway)

Yes, it's human factor. Site owners could create a popup window/warning box under the winner saying them to check user ID, the warning stays there until the gift is given.

Ultimate fix: DOn't show the winner to anyone but the gifter.

That works too, but this had to be removed from both front pages and giveaway page.

People would get suspicious that the draw was fixed...

I actually think there should be a lot less points.
And yea, the invite idea sounds good.

the max number of points, as it is, just serves to balance out habits as far as entries. Someone might keep their points close to nil by entering a few giveaways a day. Or they might let them buildup and enter many more after say... a week. They're still entering just as much, It's just more obvious when the 300 pointers are dumping them all at once.
