I always type my thank you's. Makes it a little more personal. Not to mention, original.

Once everyone automatically says thanks, no one says thanks.
If you know what I mean.

No Thanks cos If youre too lazy to type thanks for a giveaway then an Auto thank you means nothing at all .

Why do people even bother coming up with that shiznit? ...

So, maybe let the site automatically enter desired giveaways for us? And automatically send us a text message to our %PHONE_NUMBER% if we had won?
Seriously, making more and more features automatically work for us is... some kind of laziness. Don't take my post as a 'hater troll' message, that's just my own opinion, you can agree or not. To be clear, I mean not only your idea of auto-thanks, but all such suggestions. Regards

And thus making thank you comments even more pointless and less feeling.

Thanks ET3D for the forum post, but it is utter shite and a horrible idea.

The idea may be not as silly as it seems. Suppose such automatic thank-you messages do get implemented (say, in public giveaways): the next logical step would be to introduce a filter that would allow the giveaway creator to hide all those automatic messages and actually see the occasional meaningful comment. Which do get lost sometimes.

2) Also AWWW FAKE THANKS? HOW SWEETTTTTT <333
EDIT: Nvm saw what you did there. Thanks for Skyrim.

I have a feeling that this post is sarcastic. D:
But anyway, maybe have two 'tabs' of comments (add to the comments/entries/stats section), one for the simple 'ty's' and one for 'real comments' and you can choose which one to post in through a checkbox or something? This way the creator can quickly isolate the interesting comments by going to the discussion tab.
... Or just keep it like it is and not suggest more features to code. XD

Why enter any giveaways when the chances that you'll get that are like 1/400? Why even be a member of this site when you think the odds are too low to bother?
It's still a person giving away free games while asking nothing in return. Whether you win or not doesn't change anything about that fact. And a 1/400 chance or even a 1/4000 chance is still infinitely better than no chance at all.

why not completely disable the possibility to comment on giveaways? problem solved.

Then, we suggest a change to the format of the whole site. No longer do you post giveaways, but you buy yourself games and post threads about what you gave yourself. Then people can view the thread and have an automated "congrats" commented for them.

That an horribly shitty idea, and I hope you're not being serious about this.
I've said this before in about a thousand similar threads, but I'll keep saying it in the hope that at some point it'll even sink in with the thickest of skulls. Saying thanks is an expression of gratitude. That's what saying thanks means. It's a small and (according to some) insignificant gesture, but it's still something you choose to do to thank the person giving away free shit. If you automate this, it loses all meaning. At that point you might as well stop saying thanks alltogether. It's not about who can gather the most thank-yous in one giveaways or about who says thank-you more than everyone else, it's about expressing the fact that you're grateful for the chance to win free shit.
If people say thank you for any other reason, be it because it's automated, because it's mandatory, or because they'll get blacklisted if they don't, it stops being an expression of gratitude and becomes utterly fucking meaningless. I'd take a dozen copypasted thank-yous over a thousand automated thank-yous any day, because it means the user chose to thank me out of their own will, and thus is displaying at least some measure of sincerity in their gratitude, whereas an automated message shows zero sincerity because there's no choice involved.

A recently closed thread suggested adding a "thanks" button. While the thread was justly closed, since the vast majority of people responding obviously didn't even read the message (hey, I know I didn't), I figured I should just take the design to the next step:
When you enter a giveaway, the system should check if you already posted a message on that giveaway, and if not, post a thank you message in your name. This message could be customised so that you could for example write:
%GAME% is at the top of my wish list. Thank you so much %USERNAME% for giving me the chance to win it.
In addition when a user enters a giveaway and then leaves the page without entering the giveaway, an alternate message could be optionally (user configurable) posted, such as:
Thanks %USERNAME% for the giveaway, but I'm not entering at this time.
(This message shouldn't be construed as advocating this feature, merely as exercise in feature design. Please keep comments to possibilities of enhancing this feature further.)
Edit:
When I created this thread I wondered how many will read the last paragraph (the one now right above the "Edit:" line) and play along. I thought I'll reward all those who do with a private giveaway. Unfortunately no one did. The only one who even went part way to discuss related features was cordateflame.
This is not a feature I'd really want. I use the script that filters out generic thanks and I love it. I miss it when I'm on a PC when it's not installed. But I like the idea of thinking creatively even about ideas I don't fully agree with. This idea could have been expanded to randomly select messages from a list of several (to break monotony) and to add special messages for specific games ("thanks for Skyrim").
Since nobody wants to play with me (boohoo) I'll close this thread soon (where "soon" means some time today).
