Never trade a code/key at Steam.

..Generalisations are bad and you should feel bad. Just take some precautions, make sure the guy is the right guy, and it goes well. Source? Me.

I'm just saying, it's safest trade a game than a serial at Steam, most people are honest, but some aren't.

While it can help, it was pointless for my scam. Also, steamrep is not infallible proved by the fact that our own Yattermen, who middle-maned for ages, is/was labeled as a scammer/impersonator by the scammer/impersonator they thought he was.

Use "Report Violation" button on steam and report him for something, maybe more people will report him and then The BanHammer will fall

sorry you got scammed bro.

never trust what someone is linking you without checking it carefully and always do whatever background checks you can on the trader, especially when it involves 'big' games. I generally check the following things (making sure they match correctly):

  • Steam profile (look for VAC bans, trade bans, comments left by others - although take them with a grain of salt)
  • Steamtrades account feedback
  • Steamgifts account stats
  • SteamRep.com analysis
  • Google search using their Steam ID # (you can get it from SteamRep.com) to look for anything unusual

Anyway, thanks for the public service announcement. I blocked the guy on Steam =P

Edit: Check this out, it came up in Google search

if you don't know the person, steam has the trade system for something...
you place your item there and wait for them to place theirs, then both agree to trade.

exchanging plain keys with someone you don't know will always be a risk, someone can always be burn.

Only way you'll find out generally is when folks tell you it happened.
Impersonators tend to run a shitload of jobs in a row so they can move on once the account is marked as a scammer on steamrep.
I bet if you try adding him he'll just block you from it and move on.

I still can't believe anyone would send a key to someone they don't know without getting something first....especially when they contact you first. Just don't do it people....unless they are verified with good rep.
