Weird. Why you have this problem and I, for example, don't? Are you sure it's not a problem on your end?
Edit: Nevermind. Seems others have it as well.

Ads can often be different depending on country. I wouldn't be surprised if this only affected a segment of the userbase.
The thing is, I don't get them at all with ABP turned on, and I got it about 5 times on SG tabs today, but never on any other site/tab.

Good to know it's not just me then. Same issue with it only on SG?

Looking into it, and I'll post an update shortly.

I removed one of our ad networks that might be suspect. If these redirects continue for anyone, please let me know. Also, when did these first show up for everyone?
Comment has been collapsed.
Only today for me. I just disabled the adblock so I will report back if I see it again. Thanks for looking into it so quickly.

It began on thursday for me. Saturday was very difficult, as it happened every time I used the SG pages.
If it helps, this issue did not occured using Opera browser, only with Firefox 24.
And not on the SG forum pages, but on the giveaway pages.

Today only. It just happened once, so I guess it fixed it.

Hey CG, seems like the issue has come back. New URL (http://get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant%20Digital) but the exact same page as before.
Comment has been collapsed.
Who the heck still uses Java ? It's a perfect tool for exploits.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not a Java exploit in this case. It's a full page ad redirect that tries to get you to download a fake "Java Update". The page comes up whether you have Java or not as it's just a malicious ad.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah i know, but if you don't have java, you just don't update it ?
As for the malicious ads its nothing new, it happens regularly over the net.
report / ban ad / clean your stuff ( be it pc or serv, servs get infected too sometimes, cool stuff, but rather not in this case )

I need it to play certain games that require java >.>

I don't use it on sites that I want to support. Ads pay for these sites mate :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I do the same, but lately there are really annoying videos, which aren't even displayed properly and the sound is daamn loud ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't.
I use an ip filter list directly at the system level instead of the browser.

Yes, those who aren't jerks and understand that we get websites like this for free because of the ads. If everyone used Adblock, then most sites on the internet would have to either require you to pay for access or simply shut down.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd rather pay or avoid ads than have ads flashing in front of my eyes and brain everytime i go on the internet. Ads on the street, ads on the bus, ads in the train, ads in the underground, ads on buildings, ads on tv, ads in newspapers... Got enough brainwashing like that thank you very much. Especially when there is tracking. Now we have ads that track your facial expressions in public places, and facebook wants to track your mouse moves...
I do pay for access to certain quality websites that are worth it ( JSTOR for example ), and many good quality sites ( like inventati/autistici or riseup for an alternative to gmail ) live off donations rather than ads.

...you know SG would be one of the sites that couldn't run without ads right?
Sites can't run for free, so are you saying every site should either shut down or switch to a paid service?
Comment has been collapsed.
Got the same thing earlier on another site. Must be an ad running wild.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just a fake made or infected ad in itself, happens regularly. Sometimes you have to clean your website code by hand to get rid of the crap.

SG requires ad revenue to operate. It's generally a good idea to whitelist the sites you want to support.

Got the same one about three hours ago, but I know the difference between fake and real. (And that was obviously fake.)

True, but a full page redirect is still a nuisance and makes SG look shady to any new members. Seems like cg has taken care of it as per his post above.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yup, just got it myself. Seems the URL has changed from what it was originally but it's the same page. Updated OP.

This is exactly the reason i turned Adblock on again, after i thought turning it of would benefit SG. But i hated this redirections, never saw the java one, but other ads.

I had to turn mine back on as well. This is a recent issue though as I've had the site whitelisted for well over half a year with no problems.
Hopefully it can be corrected permanently, I don't like to block ads on sites that I enjoy but I will if they are intrusive or dangerous.

Something similar is happening on Android devices.
An ad is diverting to http://seth.avazutracking.net/tracking/redirect/redirect.php? etc. which automatically downloads the file mobigenie_1503.apk
Comment has been collapsed.
Since you have Adblock, why not add the problematic stuff to a blacklist?
Comment has been collapsed.
It's a full page redirect not an ad or a pop-up. Not sure what to flag in ABP.

Issue should hopefully be resolved now, thanks again cg!

I have this now every once in a while, like every 5 giveaways I visit, one will give me this fake java update thing http://www. upshcngxjm.com/DE/index.php
Comment has been collapsed.
Ain't that smart to link to a fake page, there's always gonna be an idiot who will click it and possibly get infected. Also, thread necromancy.
Comment has been collapsed.
Heh, I had that and I thought it was an addon on my computer. :)

As a preface, I know my computer and it's not infected. Full AV/Malwarebytes/Spybot scans ran. Issue only on SG with Adblock turned off. Turning Adblock on seems to eliminate it so I figure this is an ad script.
When opening any page, there is a chance that the page will open and then 1 second later redirects to a page that tries to convince me to "update Java". It's not a legit Java webpage (not to mention Java does not update in this way) and reports online find that this "update" is just a Malware package.
For the record, the link is "http://javeupdatecaa.com/download/chrome.php?dv1=Ybrant%20Digital". If you land on a page with a URL that looks like this, back out. It does not appear to Drive-By so you should be OK as long as you don't click the "download" button.
A duplicate ticket is being sent to support as it's likely a bad advert; this is just a warning to Forumites.
UPDATE: Seems cg has made some changes that have fixed the issue. Thanks for the quick attention to the problem cg!
UPDATE: Seems to have returned, but under a new URL: "http://get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant%20Digital".
UPDATE: New changes have been made to nip this issue. Please let me know in the comments below if it comes back for any of you.
