Why would they? They're not like the average indie bundles. It's like what you did with the Amazon bundle. You gave away Hitman and Quantum Conundrum. Should they be decreased as well? Also refer to Rysix's post.

Bundle always used with indie games and THShit at that time. Pack = AAA games. Bundle = $1-$5, pack $5+

If those games don't get bundled, games from IG, Groupees and HiB shouldn't.
At least Crazy Machines that was in a bundle, not the official but still a bundle.

Its not an actual bundle that you will see on Humble Bundle or Indie Royale. It's just a big discount price for a couple of games. Most bundles that are marked for bundle status are pay what you want.

Still, I don't see a difference from Indie Royale, or any high price bundle. It's possible to argue that paying $1 for $50 worth of games is too much of a discount, but if a $110 bundle costing $5 on Amazon or a $20 Gala Store bundle costing $1 are okay, a $55 Indie Royale bundle which costs $4-6 minimum shouldn't get treated differently. Same for games in over the average parts of bundles.

Bundle list is there also to partially discourage those giveaways. Especially for Royale and Humble, because the ToS says you arent allowed to give away the individual games.

Permalink

True, but I think it would encourage giving the complete bundle more if it had a higher value. Valuing the bundle at its price doesn't make sense.

Also at least OTA Groupees should not be marked as bundle.

The disparity between how bundle games and deeply discounted games are treated is troubling. Not necessarily confusing, as it's easier to track what games have been in bundles than it is to keep track of every game that's ever been 75%+ off.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can just assume a game has been 75% off, if not more.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

One problem is that the bundles themselves aren't equal.

Different amounts of games, different minimum prices, and even different ways to exploit them. $1 can get you 5 to 10 games at Humble Bundle, but won't get you anything at IndieRoyale (where the minimum is likely to be around $5).

Even the games inside a single bundle aren't equal. Games you get for a $1 purchase aren't really equal with games that require a BTA or other premium purchase. For example, with the current Groupees deal I could get five copies of Party of Sin for the same price as one copy of Two Worlds II + one copy of Party of Sin. Same goes for something like Darwinia versus Demigod at IndieGala.

The other issue is that if you count Amazon sales, Amazon coupons combined with sales, Steam sales, GamersGate pricing mistakes and the like, you'd end up with a sizable portion of the Steam catalog flagged as "reduced value" titles.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So the only reason people are giving away 4.. 8 or more copy of that shitty game is to trick the contributor value. The way bundle items don't apply to Gala Store bundles makes the whole system broken. It's just saying 'go ahead, exploit all you want since we don't care about those.'

I haven't been doing this but I might spam this kinds of giveaway soon. My Two worlds 2 was bundled 3 days before the bundle started (I twas a fukeen tradeable too) but it is still counted as a bundled game. If that's how this site wants to play with the contrib value, then I guess I might play this kind of game in the future even though I'm against this viewpoint.

I'm in the same boat as you -- I have a bunch of games in my inventory that were purchased through Steam who had their values nerfed as bundle games. Even the Introversion Complete Pack (a bunch of games with soundtracks) I have counts as a bundle game because its contents were in the most recent Indie Gala, that's pretty ridiculous.

'You're not taking advantage of anything'

Sure then tell me one reason why people are giving so much copies of this crappy game (that none of 'em will actually add to their own collection) if not to take advantage of the 1$ = 20$ value..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not. If so then every game given away which wasn't bought at full price is "taking advantage". It's all or nothing. You can't say that buying a game 90% off is taking advantage but buying a game 20% off isn't taking advantage of the system. Both are. And no one has a problem with it because the system is flawed and everyone knows that.

Because a lot of people don't want to give to people who don't give back. It's just the way things are. I give to give, BUT that doesn't mean I want something i've paid for won by someone with 33 wins and no contributions.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Time to make some group giveaways, why don't you.

Contributor score don't mean a thing anyway. Let's abuse it.

Cause, truth to be told, back in the days when I bought BL2 for 40-50€, it got me 60 contributor score ($60), while right now 50€ would give me ~1300$ contributor score. Yeah, totally worth considering. And I honestly disagree with some winners of my giveaway for a variety of reason, not to say they came nowhere close to paying even a quarter of the cash required to enter the giveaway.

Permalink

It's not abuse if mods know about it and do nothing. Abuse would be cheating. It's not cheating to make a 20 giveaways of an X game. Doesn't matter where you bought it.

I don't really understand why everyone is so concerned, if you want to contribute and risk losing it, then go for it, otherwise be thankful that you're being bombarded with points to use for giveaways!

There have been other occasions where people have bought games and received 20x their payment in contribution from the Amazon bundles. If I remember correctly, after the $5 off coupon, you could get over $100 for $5 which is the same as $20 for $1 yet no one created a fuss then because it wasn't as obvious.

They were. Only SR 3 was on the bundle list. Even Darksiders and RF: Armageddon are not because they were separate keys and in budle was only one key for a few games. So yeah, they were getting x20 contributor value. I know because I counted.

What is your point anyway? If someone entered then they wanted them. Maybe it's not the most wished game in the world but if I didn't have it I'd enter giveaways for it. I like to play crap games from time to time. Besides, SH is crap but Crazy Machines is definitely not.

Obviously my opinion is a bit biased, but I don't think they should retroactively put this on the bundle list. I think the most fair thing to do at this point is for them to start monitoring future Gala Store "bundles", and announce somewhere that they will be doing so. Although it seems they don't keep a huge supply of keys in stock anyway so these are turning out to be more like flash sales than anything else.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're saying that now cause you gained a lot of contribute value from those games :D

Partially yes, but I don't feel guilty about it at all.. most of the people I sent Crazy Machines to seemed very happy and grateful for the gift. I understand this was a very deep discount, but it wasn't a true PWYW bundle either. If support does decide to retro this I'd find a halfway solution (~50% contribution value for Galastore bundles only) an acceptable solution.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well I gave away 2000$ in 2 months I did gave away discounted games, but also games I tough were good games, for me is not about contribution value, but the contribution seem also like some reward.

One thing is to give discounted games, like darksiders II or borderlands 2, even mark of the ninja that was discounted a lot, but in this particular cases I see them more like exploits.

Let's be honest Darksiders is having lees contribution value than Shadow Harvest I find it a little bit discouraging (talking about contribution value) to give games like Borderlands 2 that cost like 30$ give you 60$ contributor than spending 30$ on 1$ game and receiving 600$ contributor value.

I give games for the sake of it, with what I spend giving away I can buy the games I want, so is not to enter more exclusive giveaways, since that won even assure me winning just giving me more chances, and I will continue giving away games just today I bought Torchlight II to give it away.

But I don't know the contribution value is like some kind of placebo and seeing lost his meaning makes the value pointless.

Plus with all due respect those people giving away 10 shadow harvest or 10 crazy machines are not doing it because are trying to share, THEY are NOT doing because they are GOOD and trying to share I AM 100% sure of that, because why not buy a 10$ game (a much better game) instead of 10 1$ shitty game? the trending is clear, just for the contribution value.

Something should be done and the idea behind contribution should change.
