Also allows them to see the person actually receives it to their inventory, rather than reusing the 'gift' for future trades or to resell.

gifts aren't redeemed on spot and keys might also not be used on spot.
but just tell the person you'll give the key to someone you know if they don't use it within the next minute and it'll get used. can't do that with gifts though

What I do is open their games list and search for the game I'm giving them. If it doesn't appear there within a few minutes of me giving it, I remind them that they're supposed to activate what I just gave them. Only happened once so far, so I've been lucky to get winners who didn't intend to trade/regift their wins. Now, whether they actually wanted those games, I'll find out when I check their time played, at least 1 year after the giveaway.

This. Also, one of the games I won was a key sent via email, and I didn't get it. It was sent to my junk folder for some reason and was buried. I found it later, but not after getting in touch with the person on Steam and getting it via chat.

I would re-roll. If you want the game, make sure you get it the way the giver chooses, instead of trolling him.

every time im online on the friends list, i get harassed so much i cant play any games. so i just stay offline.

Then remove the friends who harass you. Face the problem, don't avoid it. And don't enter key giveaways, unless it says "will be e-mailed".

Mods would not give you re-roll if you don't provide a proof that you've sent the gift via e-mail. You can't just say "user did not log in to Steam in 7 days", that's no reason for a re-roll.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not their way it's in the rules - you are obliged to send gift via e-mail, that's why steamgifts gives you the email of the winner, lol.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Who says you can't send them via Steam? Why are we even making it look like a big problem, anyway? You create your giveaway, you can send over the e-mail, or the Steam chat. I've sent 90% of my giveaways on the Steam chat, and nobody banned me for doing so. As long as the winner receives the game, as agreed, it is within the rules.

Besides, this is my logic of things.

If you enter a game, it is because you want to get the game. If you want the game and you happen to win it, you will want to get it as soon as possible, and if the giver adds you on Steam, you're going to ignore his request? I doubt it. It's not like the giver is doing you a favor by giving you the game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is I will not send any keys through mail. If they don't want to accept my friend/chat requests is their problen, not mine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I would re-roll if you didnt accept it through steam when i specifically said through steam, well then i guess it is your loss someone elses gain.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So you want that the author of a giveaway that explicitly says he want to give by chat, has to change. I would ask for a reroll and show screens of your activity on steam and steamgifts.
Later i'm adding a picture here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can give them out any way you want. I'll add the person if they're online when I'm ready to send. Otherwise, I'll email them the game. I'd prefer to chat with them since, like others have said, it adds a personal touch.

People have sent me my wins both ways, and I'm not picky which one they do. Why should I be?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Some people like to verify the person doesn't own the game already and like knowing the person actually received it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

shrug I just email keys. Most of the time the person isn't online when my giveaway ends, and who wants to sit around chatting when they've just got a new game to play?

But if someone wants to send it on Steam, that's cool too. Nothing wrong with being friendly.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

first part of your post is exactly my point.

if i just won a giveaway i dont want to have to sit and talk to the people, i want to play the damn game.

You dont have to do anything you fraking wanker.

Permalink

But you can at least talk to them and thank them for giving you a great game, and anyway, it has to install

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well there's a legit reason why sending an email is bad. If the winner has set his profile to private or to friends only, you can't check if he has already have the game or verify that he had already activated the game.

I sent keys in e-mail only once. I'll never do it again, the winner did not check in "gift received" for 5 days, and as I'm reading the forums there are people who've been waiting for more than 2 months.

Those scumbags! Expecting you to be bothered enough to accept their friend request and acknowledge that you've activated the free key they handed over! How dare they!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because e-mail isn't really reliable due to spam filters. I won a game and thought the guy didn't send it to me and marked as did not receive when in reality he had sent it through e-mail and it had ended up in my junk mail. Unfortunately, I get too much junk mail that attempts at being "personal" that I must have just taken it for junk and emptied my junk mail folder. Fortunately, we got it all sorted out in the end but still, that's one reason to send keys through steam chat rather than e-mail.

I just want to make sure, that the winner got the key, and could activate it. If they have any problems - they can contact me very easily through steam. But after they activated it, I usually delete them.

Same here. Don't want the uncertainty of waiting for a long period of time wondering if the person actually received the e-mail or not.

When my first giveaway ended I have sent the key to the winner's e-mail. The winner didn't log into steam or steamgifts for over a month. The support didn't answer for over 3 weeks to what to do. Then the winner magically appeared and he said that he didn't even get my e-mail with the key in it.

So yeah, f*ck the e-mail, accept my friend request if you want your key, I will delete you afterwards anyways.
